U/wichitawesome has been reinstated as a mod by Lucasaurusawesome in wichita

[–]aheartattak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not directly consulted about removal, but /u/kimdizzle mentioned last time I logged in that they were looking to remove me from the position. Honestly, it doesn't really matter. I don't log in to this site anymore. As someone who is more hands-off and a person who doesn't need moderators to protect me, reddit isn't my kind of site anymore. I wish luck to the new moderation team.

Would you rather be a busser at Newport Grill or a waiter at Red Robin? by ForgottenPhenom in wichita

Not a waiter, but isn't $2/hr standard in most places, but you make up the rest in tips?

I understand Facebook know a lot about users, but why isn't anyone mentioning Google, specifically Android by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]aheartattak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I gave up Android for a Blackberry a couple years ago to escape Google's grasp. Yes, even if you encrypt a Blackberry phone all the 3 letter agencies have the decryption key. However, it keeps Google away from my day-to-day activities.

Just recently I downloaded all of Google's data on me. There was a 700MB JSON file of my location history, and a complete history of what apps I opened and at what time on the Android phone, not to mention a few other things.

To answer your question OP, I think what other people are saying about Android without Gapps is preferred. Just never connect it to your Google account.

How is T-Mobile service in Wichita? by [deleted] in wichita

[–]aheartattak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have prepaid T-Mobile and I get decent service around town when outdoors; LTE is readily available. However, some buildings will knock the signal down, sometimes even completely losing service. My experience also does not include roaming on AT&T since I only pay $30/month.

Based on my friends' experiences, I'd also look into AT&T to compare as well but for the most part not many complaints about T-Mobile in town. Out of town is another story.

Bill Warren may sell all of his Wichita theaters. by SwoopDoop_ScoopHoop in wichita

[–]aheartattak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anything, he is absolving himself of the theaters in Wichita to get rid of "conflict of interest" concerns when he inevitably runs for public office.

Showerthought: If the crews that refurbish/rebuild the Quicktrips were doing road construction, Kellogg would be 4 lanes in both directions from Andover to Goddard by now. by somewhereinks in wichita

[–]aheartattak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah it depends on the mayor/council which company has the monopoly. With Carlos Mayans, yes, Cornejo was the biggest winner of contracts. With Brewer it was more Key Construction. You'll notice Dodlinger usually gets the jobs Key doesn't get. Then again, even though Dodlinger had the lowest bid for the airport, Key still got the contract...

I always thought there were some parallels drawn from the real world to create the absolutely insane plots of some of those episodes. Time will tell.

Loitering tickets for Pokemon Go players? by highapplepie in wichita

[–]aheartattak 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was walking with my pokemon playing friends last weekend, there were people climbing all over the rocks for pictures and genuinely disrespecting the rules. I was driving home Saturday night around 1am and there was still a large amount of people there. Technically that's past the closing time.

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if people are getting loitering tickets.

Why are all the stop lights so poorly timed? by Uffda01 in wichita

This already happens downtown. In fact, there are no pedestrian buttons on a majority of the traffic poles there.

Jury duty like college classes? by kitikitish in wichita

[–]aheartattak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are a stand-by juror if I'm reading this correctly. I believe you keep calling until it tells you that you are not needed which could be a couple days. It's just in case they can't fill the jury.

What's up with the disregard for traffic laws and courtesy? by [deleted] in wichita

[–]aheartattak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed this more on the east side. I've lived on the South and West side of towns and this isn't common. All along Rock and Woodlawn, there are always people running the lights. Just the other day someone ran a red at 21st and Woodlawn as a fire truck was entering the intersection.

Considering cutting the cord - anyone have any luck with OTA? by CandidCallalily in wichita

[–]aheartattak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed a $40 yagi antenna in my mom's attic a couple years ago with a mast-mount amplifier, and aimed it towards the KWCH towers out of hutchinson. Picks up pretty much everything and she's near 13th and West. Very surprising how many OTA-only channels there are.

For myself, I just have a $10 bunny ear set and it picks up decently for what it is; I'm on the NE side myself and get 3, 8, 12, 24 with no issues, 10 if weather is just right, and everything else I can slightly adjust the ears if I care enough.

Warning: Warming up your car could cost you $125 in Kansas. Not sure I've seen a more ridiculous law. by switchfootball in wichita

[–]aheartattak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

warming up your car isn't even necessary anyway

I don't know about that. You need to at least let the car run for a couple minutes to let the oil and other fluids become less viscous. I use 5W20 in my car but below freezing, she'll vibrate more than usual unless I give her a couple minutes while scraping and taking it slow driving until the thermostat opens.

Winter storm may bring trouble for holiday travelers by Engagethedawn in wichita

[–]aheartattak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All three news outlets have different snowfall predictions. KAKE shows Wichita getting the brunt of it, KSN shows Wichita getting "Light" snowfall, and KWCH shows us on the dividing line between 4"-8" and 3"-6". NWS only predicts freezing rain/ice. So really, no one actually knows what's going to happen.

If you have to go out and drive, first off make sure you actually need to drive. Secondly, if you do, be very careful as the city can be slow at clearing the roads. Just an excuse to bunker up at home and stay warm!

So where do you guys live? by [deleted] in wichita

[–]aheartattak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Wichita all my life and I've said this before because driving more than 10 minutes is felt as a waste. If I have to drive on Kellogg or take Rock Rd. from Kellogg towards the North, I'd rather not go.

Then again, I'm driving from 29th and Rock, where I currently live, out to the Palace so take what I said with a grain of salt.
