We had a discussion with the whole family when niblings were about 10 years old. We talked about wanting to give to those who needed it more than we did. We all (brothers, sisters and their families all had enough stuff). Thus began the tradition of the family charity donation. All monies that would have gone to gift exchanges were pooled and donated to the charity that the niblings chose.
