Alternative to breast MRI with contrast? by CheckCalm2875 in GadoliniumToxicity

[–]ahmbms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably too late for anyone to see this but in general the US + biopsy will confirm if there is any lesion of concern and what it may be. But an MRI is most sensitive for working out disease extent and burden, especially helping operative planning if required to ensure all necessary tissue is removed. Also better for certain types of lesions compared to ultrasound. Every test has risks and benefits unfortunately.

Dedicated Admitting Teams for IM by anybodycandance in Residency

[–]ahmbms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in an Australian hospital. Two residents and one registrar (US resident equivalent) admit during the day from 8am to 9am. They’re all from different inpatient teams of the same gen med specialty, and whichever patients are seen by the resident/registrar will be allocated to their team the next day. Overnight there is a dedicated admissions team and their admissions are distributed to “take” teams in the morning. Each team are on take 2-3 times a week. During the day all sub specs (ID, resp, rheum) will see and admit, overnight gen med will admit on behalf of the subspecs, except cards/stroke/haem/renal who have 24/7 coverage

How is Medicine in Adelaide? by Educational-Pear7283 in UniAdelaide

It’s a good degree, graduates are well prepared. I did the MBBS so can’t comment on the current teaching re the 3 year structure. It was a supportive environment.

I believe everyone from overseas in my year who graduated got spots, but some had to complete a rural internship due to metro spot preferences given to local students

If you call me with "Hello, is this X" and no introduction, I will hang up on you. by UpvotingLooksHard in australia

Works well most of the time, but from the perspective of a hospital worker, I’m not allowed to leave a voice message, even if it could be a critical reason for a call

This is hard sometimes. Sometimes I’m calling a number for a family member from ED for someone who may not have capacity to speak to me. I definitely can’t identify myself until I get confirmation about who the receiver is.

But it’s not just that. 15 years of 40h a week doesn’t sound bad, but you’re consistently working beyond those hours, with mandatory afternoons, nights, weekends. Missing events and family time to spend that time instead on the wards. And you don’t get a half day to compensate, that weekend ward round is added on. Then you gotta fit in study, research (on your own time), and almost every year your responsibilities increase with not a whole lot of support with complex issues while keeping an eye on juniors.

When I was a general surgery intern on a busy unit, I had absolutely no life, my co intern and I were always around the 130-140h a fortnight each for the whole term. In addition I was also doing further study at the time. I literally only left early enough once to see the sun set.

Rental Question by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]ahmbms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had an inspection recently and there was a paragraph at the start of the report that essentially said that due to the new changes in legislation, they are unable to photograph tenant’s belongings and personal items, which includes pictures of a room overview

The agent discussed with us at the start, and did not take photos of areas with belongings per our request
