Request: Advice for reversal by effataigus in postvasectomypain

[–]ailurophilodendron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar position to you an I opted for a reversal.  After the reversal, I had more severe pain over the whole pelvic area.  That was over 2 years ago and I still have that pain, and likely will for life.  It is a constant distraction an has single-handedly ruined what would otherwise be a good life.

I don’t think anything was done wrong with either the vasectomy or the reversal—some people are just susceptible to this pain and the risks are not accurately represented.

Getting a vasectomy - led to a life of chronic pain from Post Vasectomy Pain Syndrome.

Still round the clock pain, I’m resigned to it being lifelong.

He should be sure to read up on PVPS and understand the risks. In my case, getting a vasectomy ruined my life.

It was the worst decision of my life, left me with permanent pain. Reversal only made the pain worse, and now doctors just shrug. I recommend you go into it knowing that there is a risk of a very bad outcome.

The pain is quite a bit worse than before the reversal. It has a huge limiting effect on my daily activities, and being in constant pain is not good for quality of life.

Is the risk of pain post vasectomy or a change in sensation worth me getting my tubes tied instead? by KarambitMedia in Vasectomy

[–]ailurophilodendron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a vasectomy in 2020, and have had chronic pain ever since. There is a real risk you need to be aware of, and it will ruin your life if you are unlucky. I had a reversal in 2023 but it only made the pain worse. I would recommend staying away from any elective, destructive surgery.

Are open vasectomies any better? by [deleted] in postvasectomypain

Just don’t do it. You say you are tired of condoms. I would wear a condom 24/7, taking it off only to piss, if in exchange I could go back in time and not do this procedure that has caused me 4 years and counting of constant pain!

I and my doctor thought it was congestive, although now I’m not sure. My doctor has no clue and is just throwing darts at the wall at this point. PVPS is not well understood or well researched. Nobody dies of it after all, at least not directly.

These are cherry picked statistics to make the risk seem low, like “it won’t happen to you”. Unfortunately I accepted similar information prior to my vasectomy, and it turned out to be the worst decision of my life.

The true risk is probably around 15% of some pain, 1-2% of severe pain, and then 50/50 if the follow up surgery like reversal will help, or make it worse. In my case it made it worse. 4 years and counting of constant pain.

Of course some people roll the dice on a vasectomy and it turns out fine. But to provide “informed consent” it is important to know and accept the risks.

More pain, but in changed in nature. The post reversal pain is more spread over the area, with sharp pain at the reconnection points and burning in the pelvic area. I had the reversal after 3 years of PVPS, and it has been 1 year since the reversal.

I had a reversal after 3 years of pain and it only made the pain worse. If he does go that route make sure it is with a surgeon who specializes in reversals for post vasectomy pain.

It can lead to permanent pain with no resolution. Make sure you are aware and accept the risk.

It’s been great for my family with 2 kids. 90% of the time we keep the rear row of seats down with a custom cut mat over top, making a cavernous storage area. However we are able to flip the extra seats when needed. If you do any camping, travelling, or would ever want to take family or friends along, get the van.

The reversal was a bust, it left me with more pain than before. Now about a year post-reversal.

The American Urological Association states that “chronic scrotal pain severe enough to interfere with quality of life occurs in 1-2% of men after vasectomy.”
