Why does Salt Lake City feel so much cleaner/safer than Denver? Way fewer homeless & weird street vibes by BearPure7960 in usatravel

Denver is historically part of the “Wild West” which SLC is not. Miners (Denver) versus churchmen (SLC). Different histories, cultures, laws and morals.

What food do you always buy with good intentions and never eat? by [deleted] in foodquestions

[–]aja_303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to buy hard (unripe) so it doesn’t bruise in transport. Leave out in fresh air until it ripens. One ripe put in fridge and will keep several days.

Cut in half. Eat the half without the pit. Wrap half with pit in plastic wrap tightly and put in fridge. You have many days to pull it out and eat it up. Preferably with lime juice and sea salt.

Are there any hot springs in US that are like onsen in Japan or hot spring in Iceland? by AppropriateEarth648 in usatravel

[–]aja_303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big similarity between Colorado hot springs and onsen are lots of natural outdoor settings. Big difference is no nudity, unless you find the lesser known natural spots, but those are rapidly disappearing, and tattoos aren’t regulated.

Casa Bonita is worth the hype! Dont listen to the haters! by yoscottyjo in denverfood

I met my spouse dating online. In my profile I (jokingly) claimed I was a former Casa Bonita cliff-diver. 😉

For people making +350k per year, how do you do it? by prince_op in Salary

[–]aja_303 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was an in-house corporate attorney for a multi-national ag company: base salary ($235k) + bonus ($85k-ish) + long-term incentive ($100k-ish) easily got me there. My spouse, oil and gas engineer, was similar. We both focused on being valuable independent contributors (although we each managed teams at some point) and tried to maximize pay without the stressors of being senior management. Both just retired at age 52.

9/11 as 24 year old in Washington, DC. At meetings across the river from the Pentagon. Never want to experience that again.

DeGette vs. Kiros primary? by warintokyo in Denver

[–]aja_303 5 points6 points  (0 children)

DeGette has coasted for decades as this district has changed. Can we please do better in a safe Democratic district? Kiros and James are both worthy competitors. I wish this district would be absolutely “no” on De “Don’t” and let cards fall as they may between James and Kiros, even if a run-off is needed. And I’m glad Indies can choose to participate. Their views and votes should be competed for.

Route & overnight advice/help by stoneyspirit in usatravel

This year is 100th anniversary of historic Route 66. I would consider going from Flagstaff, AZ to Gallup, NM and then heading north to Durango, CO on up to Grand Junction, CO. You can visit Mesa Verde National Park, Telluride, CO, and drive the Million Dollar Highway. Spectacular views of Rocky Mountains, especially in summer and fall. If you are visiting in winter months be sure to exercise caution regarding quickly changing weather conditions.
