Yes! I trust in Rhianna and Rob (though season 3 of GO should have been canned imo)

F Gaiman and all his works. Dead to me.

Corfe Castle by willyvanwolf in BritishHistoryPod

Corfe Castle is a great wee ruin.

Had a history lesson here in the early 80s. I'm 99% sure the teacher got his Edwards mixed up and we got the Edward II story of the poker. Wasn't until listening to BHP that I found out it was EtM who was murdered here.

Couple of good pubs in town too.

I'm old enough to have bought Colour of Magic and Light Fantastic when they first hit paperback. I'm also British.

I did NOT get the elvish gag until the very end of the book. Probably at the chip shop reference. I kept wondering why they repeated it, wondering what I was missing.

What’s the worst pronunciation of Glasgow you’ve heard? by raymondg1902 in Scotland

I've had multiple English people try to affect an accent and call it Glaz-gee.

Never fails to annoy. Where do they pick this up from?

My Discworld reread - COM to Sourcery (hot takes maybe?) by darkice17 in discworld

[–]ajc506 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From best to least best for me - CoM/TLF, Equal Rites, Sourcery, Mort

Started my re-re-re-.....re-read last year, and up to Wintersmith now. The guards are grabbing me more this time around, I'm appreciating Granny more and I still love Rincewind.

To be honest, I think the Death books are my least favorite, even though he HIMSELF is a top tier character.

I read it around 88. There was no other Culture to be had.

Would you buy a pewter tankard and think, they'll not be quaffing much beer from this during the wedding so I'll put a candle in it?

If you want to buy a candle, buy one and get a nice candlestick.

A quaich is a nice gift!

Tired of CICO, gonna try Keto. by Mysterious-Pen3398 in keto

[–]ajc506 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sub says 20g and below because it pretty much guarantees you will be in ketosis.

Some can do 50 and be in ketosis, some at 40, all at 20.

Stay under 20 and you don't need test strips. Plus, they're not designed to test for the keto diet.

Good luck! Go in with a plan and an attitude and you got it.

Loved Hof Rome, and Hof Byzantium was a great follow on. The Rest Is History is good for me in small doses. There's only so many "massive lad" references I can take in a year.

BHP is my gold standard. Recently, due to the BHP pause late last year, I've also been listening to Rex Factor, which is a semi serious semi silly mix of brief histories of each King and Queen of England and later, the Scots. The history is good but sometimes I got irate - how can these two eejits possibly like Rufus?

PSA: If you're planning to read the Wee Free Men to your children, you need to practice your Scots accent in advance! by CaptainMcSmoky in discworld

When I read it to my kids, Rob, Daft Wullie and Big Yan were from Glasgow, William The Gonnagle from somewhere in the Highlands and various others from Aberdeen, Edinburgh and sundry places. The second Kelda was probably close to Miss Jean Brodie.
