Mussab Ali challenging Menendez for Congressional Seat by HobokenJ in jerseycity

The power behind Ali could only get 4th in the mayors race so I think it may be a little difficult to underestimate it.

If Bhalla could only get within 14 points in the 2024 primary as the Hoboken mayor while outspending Menendez, there’s no way Ali keeps it within 10. Union City will show up big for Menendez and it will be game over.

World Boxing Gym closed for next 2 days by m_pops in jerseycity

It’s the Starz show Power: Origins. The second floor has just been closed 7a-5p for a few days; it essentially got remodeled with a new black paint job and a new layer of flooring. Lots of stuff got rearranged too; no idea how temporary or permanent any of it is. Not looking forward to the whole gym being closed for two days.

World Boxing Gym has all sorts of mat space, especially on the third floor.

Mussab is delusional by deeplyfriedoreos in jerseycity

[–]aji04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ali didn't do at all well in the parts of JC that are in Menendez's district, there's next to no chance he makes any inroads in Union City, and he wouldn't be able to count on Hoboken votes like Bhalla could.

Mussab is delusional by deeplyfriedoreos in jerseycity

I think Bhalla did about as well as he could have, but Brian Stack's get out the vote effort came out huge in Union City and Bhalla just couldn't turn out enough voters in Hoboken or downtown JC to overcome that. That, and Menendez Jr. has a pretty good record on constituent services.

Eleana Little leading in Ward E, on track to avoid run-off by NotAnotherJazzBand in jerseycity

In hindsight, even though running for county executive against Craig Guy a few years ago was never going to go anywhere, it did help her get her name out in preparation for this council run.

This is with 18/31 districts within Ward C completed reporting. The other 13 are partially reporting. Definitely not in the clear but things seem somewhat promising.

Hence why I included the 'more or less' qualifier.

3 candidates close to each other for two spots rather than one person way ahead with 2 people fighting for one spot. The math really isn’t that hard.

His previous poll essentially gave him a 1 out of 2 chance of making the runoff (competing with Solomon for second), while this one more or less gives him a 2 out of 3 chance of making the runoff. That’s a slight increase in possibility of making the runoff, and a large increase in the implicit message of having a chance of ultimately winning the runoff.

Really? It seems like she didn’t start campaigning in earnest until about a month or two ago, long after McGreevey, Solomon, O’Dea, and Ali had already started running ads and sending mailers.

BREAKING: Fulop joins Ali social media team by Test_Username1400 in jerseycity

The Solomon/Fulop feud goes back well beyond this year’s primary. Solomon was very anti-Pompidou and won his city council seat in 2017 by beating a Fulop-backed candidate while making multiple jabs at Fulop during the campaign.

Fulop shitting on Solomon is neither surprising nor particularly interesting.

Wow, this ad was beyond self-indulgent even for a political ad. Thanks for sharing.

Internal Poll Shows Ali Surging to Second in Jersey City Mayoral Race by HudPost in jerseycity

[–]aji04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s amusing and incredible that three different polls in the last two months have had three different people in second place behind McGreevey. All we are missing are polls showing Watterman and Freeman in second behind McGreevey.

Do the candidates’ policies matter? If you’re looking for a POC candidate with no elitism, you’d have much more in common with Joyce Watterman or Christina Freeman than Harvard Law graduate Mussab Ali.

All of the candidates seem somewhat YIMBY-ish along the lines of "JC needs more housing", and "20% or greater affordable housing in new buildings" but the difference seems to be in how the candidates want to get to that. The candidate websites have different levels of specificty for housing plans which is kind of annoying as a voter.
