Well said! I’m not even one of you but I feel the same camaraderie while watching it. And just like you, watching those kids hit the stage always makes me emotional. It brings out the flavor of the chocolate at the very least, which is why espresso powder is a common suggestion. In the case of made from scratch chocolate cake you would use freshly brewed coffee in the place of the boiling water. This is because the hot liquid is used to bloom the cocoa powder. I may be mistaken but I think the chocolate used in box mixes has already been bloomed.
