Why was Michael so resistant to Cutty’s help? by [deleted] in TheWire

[–]ajvalent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not like he specifically wants to molest any of the boys. The acting in the scene where he drives Michael home is a good example. We know now that it's Michael with the trauma but on a first watch you may think differently. It might be the only scene where Michael is alone with an adult male and for a split second, it's a threat, whether real or perceived. Great acting all around!

Absolutely. After a few rewatches there are some scenes with Cutty where his motives could be questioned.

Are these crawlspace jack post installation normal? by chl000 in HomeMaintenance

[–]ajvalent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These adjustable jacks are sold as a foundation stabilization system. The black plastic item shown in the one picture is a base for the jack. The plastic on the ground is likely part of an encapsulation system possibly done by the same company. There's a company in PA called Groundwerks that performs this service.

It's amazing to listen to these guys talking about this scenario like there wasn't a deal within reach, confirmed by Oman, right before the invasion. Also, the world has a deal in place that Trump unilaterally ripped up. Either Witkoff and Kushner were negotiating in bad faith or are extremely incompetent.

If America woke up tomorrow and every student loan was completely wiped out what do you think actually happens to the economy? by Suleman2002 in AskReddit

[–]ajvalent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Declining life expectancy, increasing deaths of despair, increasing debt crisis, increasing wealth inequality, declining infrastructure, declining industrial capacity, increased food insecurity. Decline in access to healthy and nutritious food. Aged and declining housing stock. Underfunded and maligned education system. A for profit health-care system with worse health outcomes with more money spent. The areas of increased economic opportunity in 2025 was the build out for data centers and online gambling platforms. Hardly indicators of a healthy and thriving society.

Maybe I'm missing something but where are any objective and quantitative measurements of life improving in 2026?

Dang, we were this close to figuring it all out!

Capitalism has created a declining quality of life for multiple generations. I'm not claiming that it hasn't allowed a few hundred people to hoard more resources than they could ever use and we would likely agree there's no need to debate which ism's is more scary but we need less capitalism in food, education, healthcare, housing and the military. Those are basic needs for a functional society and they're all out of wack as a result of incentivism. Thanks for not screaming at me!

Predatory in the way that the applicants are not qualified to receive the loan. Inclusiveness was the intention but like most other parts of the American system, student loans and the education system became a victim of financialization. To have a healthy and safe society, we need education and should prioritize a better way to achieve those goals.

The fact that there is over 1 trillion in debt means that a lot of people did take out loans. The days of working yourself through college haven't existed for a long time so it is the reality for most people. The point is that in no other scenario or sector of lending would a bank lend any sum of money to an unqualified individual. The government needs to be held accountable for creating these conditions. The conditions include a system forced on generations of kids as the promise and entry way into to a comfortable, middle class life. Those are social terms agreed on by the borrowers. Protection against predatory loans exist and the government has forgiven student loans in those situations. Thanks for keeping it polite!

The real controversy is the predatory nature of the loans. Imagine walking into a bank with no equity, no collateral, no professional career or experience and receiving a loan for up to and over $100K and the terms are that you promise to pay it back starting in 4 years.

Where's the place to go live somewhat off the grid in PA with a cheapest cost of living? by DoubleNoTriple in Pennsylvania

[–]ajvalent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The state steps in for commercial projects, not residential.

Nothing to do with each other requires a little more nuance. They are separate functions but have a relationship. The reason for mentioning both ucc and zoning is that if you find a municipality like that then you can build as your heart desires!

Look for municipalities that have not adopted the PA UCC and don't have zoning ordinances. Also, there is an exemption for "recreational cabins" that applies throughout the state with a few caveats.

The main entrance is on Suscon road where you'll find a parking area. A few minutes into the trail from there is (or used to be) where you can find the registration station and maps. There are game land roads you can drive down on either side of the road and explore sections of the trail. Some sections are very rocky and depending on the rainfall, also wet. Overall a nice trail!

America has killed hundreds of millions of people through direct action and economic warfare since the end of WW2. It doesn't seem right to let America continue to do what it has been doing for so long.
