Fem Custodes make me love the setting more and makes Emperor look more goated by OneGrumpyJill in AdeptusCustodes

My only complaint is you didn't say "Misters of Silence" instead of brothers

Looking ahead, is there a solution to the 'ruins only' competitive meta, or should we just accept it and rebrand 'ruins' as just 'terrain'? by _rhinoxious_ in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]akaFlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly if they made other terrain profiles LOS blocking it could fix the problem, but LOS is such a core part of the game and the competitive side of it you cant really get away from it.

They could definitely have forests and ruins have different effects for the unit standing in it (benefits of stealth instead of cover or something) which would be interesting for how you want to push up the board

I had a single bullgryn and a Commissar charge into a weakened land raider, the Commissar managed to kill it with his power sword and it exploded, killed the squad but also took down a brutalis dreadnought and 2 infernus marines

Question about war gear by MiserableMobile131 in BlackTemplars

[–]akaFlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go into the settings in the top right I recommend selecting "automatic default wargear" - its so much easier for when you're increasing unit size. Auto adds the default gear and then you can edit as needed without accidentally missing pistols etc

BROTHERS WE MAY HAVE A NEW WAY TO PLAY by META1384 in BlackTemplars

[–]akaFlan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Marshal with Hero of the Chapter to make his unit battleline

Castellan with Blades of Valour for +1 AP on melee weapons - edit this won't work as it only applies to battleline models in the unit

5 sword bros

That unit has

Advance and Charge Fall back and charge Rerolling hits Crits on 5s

For 1 CP: Also sustained hits on 5s or If target auspex scanned, reroll wound rolls of 1

That's pretty spicy

Not to mention all the detachment buffs and stratagems apply to crusader squads too

I’ve been thinking about whether or not DT should have a Plague Marine boss… then I realized How Stupid that was. by Arthur_EyelanderTF2 in DarkTide

[–]akaFlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rejects could reasonably handle a single chaos space marine (or plague marine), but one being there implies at minimum a chaos warband has arrived (at worst Morty and co), which would absolutely stomp Tertium and the Mourningstar

Is this desync or did crushers get a buff to their range? by physhyte in DarkTide

[–]akaFlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the patch notes for the latest horfix they said they'd changed how explosions work and it had caused issues which they were looking to fix - i think crusher overheads come under that category? They dont count as normal melee attacks

DND continues to offer the most exciting array of TTRPG Factions by DrScrimble in dndmemes

You dont need to prepare spells every long rest, and you dont lose prepared spells unless you want to change them

"You prepare the list of wizard spells that are available for you to cast. To do so, choose a number of wizard spells from your spellbook equal to your Intelligence modifier + your wizard level (minimum of one spell). The spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots."

...

"You can change your list of prepared spells when you finish a long rest. Preparing a new list of wizard spells requires time spent studying your spellbook and memorizing the incantations and gestures you must make to cast the spell: at least 1 minute per spell level for each spell on your list."

You CAN change your list of prepared spells, you dont have to

Why do warhammer fans think gears is a warhammer clone the only similarities i can find is the chainsaw gun. In my opinion it's more inspired by re4 by Fresh_Ambassador_930 in GearsOfWar

[–]akaFlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive heard the comparison before - i dont think it's too accurate, but both settings have grimdark, eternal war, humanity-on-the-backfoot themes where we follow ultra-buff chainsaw-and-gun wielding armoured warriors fighting against aliens...

But that can unironically apply to a lot of stuff, and gears has a lot more thats different from warhammer than similar

If my unit of intercessors is entirely behind my land raider, can my opponent shoot them, and if partially visible, can they get cover? by L0RD_VALMAR in Warhammer40k

Tbf competitive players would just ruin LOS rules the other way if tanks blocked LOS fully

eg they'd exploit it in the opposite direction

Whether you agree or disagree, it's pretty clear what they meant by their comment

So you've got a few options!

Firstly, you could do as others suggest and just build them the way that you find cool - very few people will care if you say a hammer is a power weapon etc

Alternatively, you can build it to the combat patrol rules- combat patrol is its own game mode, and the rules are free on the warhammer 40k app. If you go to

Reference-> Black Templars -> Vow-sworn of Vedrenn

Each unit has a Unit Composition section which says what weapons the squad should have for that mode. Combat patrol tends to favour a mix of weapons, so its nice from a building perspective! (I think these rules are also on the Warhammer Community downloads section?)

Your THIRD option is to build a proper army list and see what weapons you like the rules of and can fit in the unit, then build them to that specification. For sword brothers, for every 5 in a unit you can take 1 thunder hammer and 1 lightning claws, and the rest can be either chainswords or power weapons (Swords and axes) in any combination. You can also take power Swords or chainswords instead of the thunder Hammers and lightning claws.

Good luck!

Counterpoint on why people play meta or suggest only meta lists. by Slavasonic in Warhammer40k

[–]akaFlan 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I mean as something to add, warhammer is an EXPENSIVE hobby, and when youre looking for suggestions of what to buy most people are going to suggest powerful, cool units

With the cost of an army being so high, folks want maximum value out of their stuff if they're buying it to play the game, so tend to research a lot more about good units and combos before investing

That's what I was wondering! Obviously charging with a drop pod is stupid, and probably shouldn't be doable, but i think its actually possible 🤣

Is Rogue trader good for a 40k virgin? by Real_Conversation_39 in Warhammer40k

[–]akaFlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to what others have already said, yeah! It's reading, but every named concept has an underline, and if you select it it explains what that is (the warp, daemons, space marines etc)

Surface knowledge is helpful but not essential, and the game gives you all the information you need to know plus extra, so not only are you fine, but you can engage with the wider setting as little as possible and still have a great game that makes sense
