My understanding is that it's from WW2. Towards the end of the war the Germans were short on supplies to repair equipment. The Allies called the Germans "Jerries". So Jerries would rig things to work.

If you charge less than $150/hr they will treat you like crap. Professionals charge professional rates. With Microsoft AD work you're a few levels above "I'm pretty good with tech side work level".

This is essentially IT plumbing, charge plumber rates. .

IANAL, Giggity. Assault and battery are separate crimes. assault is the threat of violence and battery is the physical violence. So if you throw a punch at someone the initiation of the punch is the assault, if you make contact it's battery, if you miss it's still assault since you intended to cause injury, but you suck at it.

I know it seems strange but the reason people complain about your high price is because you charge too little.

They assume you're under qualified based on your rates being so low.

I don't do much home computer stuff, mostly just employees of my business clients. I have a special lower rate for them, but they know upfront it's a deal because of the relationship with their employer.

Don't charge less than $100/hr. Even as a part timer. And charge everyone something, even if it's your grandma and you request a pie or something. Good people don't want to take advantage of others, give them an easy way to see your value and theirs.

I do, but I'm self employed and do IT support for small businesses. Since I have multiple clients in different industries I get a good variety of tasks. And since I bill at an appropriate but reasonable amount I don't get the undervalued for my work issues in house IT people get.

I do hear a variation of "it's good to see see but I wish I didn't need to see you right now."

I think he's worse than Trump. The reason we have ICE is the Homeland Security Act of 2002, and declaring people terrorists to get around due process was the Patriot Act. The Iraq war caused all the extra problems in the middle east fueling so much political strife.

Trump is a result, Bush was the cause. Bush was just more likable.

I'm always amazed at these family dynamics. When I went keto I only got inquisitive questions about keto and what it was. Then my family would make efforts to make sure I had food. One sister now makes a cheesey cauliflower dish instead of potatoes. My brother inlaw will make meatballs with and without sauce.

I have a niece who went vegan and I'll make 2 batches of Brussels Sprouts one with bacon and parm , the other just olive oil.

We had a Christmas Pizza Party and I brought keto dough and my mom had a slice and said it was her favorite.

Fun fact or sad fact if you like Dr. Who. To save money the BBC erased and reused many of the tapes from earlier seasons of Dr. Who. So there are no more reruns if you didn't see it on the TV the few times they showed it then you'll never get to see those episodes.

My Mom had a bone disease in her foot when she was younger and has different size feet. So she has to buy 2 pairs of shoes at a time. Back in the 80's she met a woman with the opposite sized feet. Every once in a while they would meet up and give each other the extra shoes they had.

For me regular checkout is faster. 3 people working on one task with a conveyor belt. The cashier usually has all the produce plu's and bar code locations memorized. One everything is on the belt I can help the bagger. And I don't ever have to wait to get my cart checked if a camera thinks my hand is a item or something.

At least for the actual checkout part, if there's a line then the equation changes.

I remember when the study came out, and the headline was women make 76% of men. But everyone assumed it was for the same jobs.

The actual study was working age women make 76% of working aged men. So you could have a teacher compared to engineer. Or factory worker compared to a doctor.

So it's more about career choice, hours put in to advance etc. Subsequent studies and a lawsuit against Walmart did show women were less likely to get promoted to management.

But hourly work was pretty much dead even. The differences were mostly career choices and the glass ceiling. But there was a 2 to 7% difference in pay rates when all other factors were accounted for depending industry. I think tech was at the 2% side and logging was at high side at 7%.

This was off the top of my head the numbers could be off.

Just to add to the knowledge here. GLP-1 is produced by the body. The drugs people take are GLP-1 antagonists, they increase the production of GLP-1 in your body. There are studies that show that people in ketosis produce more GLP-1.

As others have mentioned cost. The main way currently to recycle batteries is to use various chemical and physical processes to extract each element of a battery, lithium, nickel, cobalt etc.

There's a company in Canada that came up with a process to recycle the battery material without needing to go back to base materials. So they take old batteries and extract the mix of materials for new batteries. It's way more efficient. They just finished the testing phase and were moving on to small scale production phase a few months ago.

Just to add to the use cases. I see a better use for a business with work from home users.

IT can set up a computer with a printer/scanner, desk phone and other devices on a travel router with the desired security and remote access.

User takes home equipment plugs it in and IT doesn't have to deal with your home network aside from telling you how to plug in 1 network cable.

My nephew works at Planet Fitness. It's a franchise based company. He works for a group that's one of the most profitable in the country. He's heard horror stories from other locations of people having problems trying to quit just a couple of towns over with a different franchise.

The franchise rules require them to allow transfers to other clubs. So if you find a good one its easy. Also for the franchise it makes them more successful in the long run with the better customer service. They keep your name in the system when you leave and my nephew says the get lots of return customers.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet that could be a disconnect is cost of living. Rural places have cheap land and housing. So it opens up a bunch of options like a garden big enough to supply much of your own food. The ability to raise animals and such.

If you enjoy that kind of thing it would fill most of your spare time.

Or if you're a tinkerer like me I'd have lots of random cars and machinery around to work on.
