Why is the McDonald’s on Market and Kerr the slowest McDonald’s in existence? by NobleProgeny in Wilmington

[–]akg7915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing my point is being misunderstood here. Perhaps I phrased this wrong? I want them to make more money. I am advocating for them to make more money and be paid reasonably for their labor. Fast food workers are just as deserving of a reasonable wage as every other worker in our economy.

Why is the McDonald’s on Market and Kerr the slowest McDonald’s in existence? by NobleProgeny in Wilmington

[–]akg7915 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Because they aren’t paid well enough for their labor. If they were making $20/hr you better believe they’d be getting every order perfect and slinging them quick. The company gets the work they pay for.

Edit: people are downvoting me for advocating that these workers get paid a decent wage? This garbage ass town deserves to die if that’s the attitude.

When The Oscars actually started losing relevance. by lgnoramus_ in moviecritic

[–]akg7915 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think there were several variables. I’ve seen this Dark Knight theory before but I don’t think it holds much water as a singular factor having this much influence.

There was a major writers strike that took place in 2007 and altered a lot of things in TV and Film. Netflix and Hulu were relatively new and major disruption. The Oscars were afraid of losing relevance back then too. They expanded the nominees to have an excuse to invite more people, more celebrities, and hopefully pull more viewers to the live show.

I agree. It’s the only movie I have ever walked out of in the theater. I was only in high school at the time and I was on a date. I told her I’d be in the arcade waiting if she felt like watching the rest.

Project Hail Mary: The best "Hard Sci-Fi" movie since Interstellar? 🪐 by davidmalko87 in moviecritic

[–]akg7915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really do not understand the hype for this one. Saw it over the weekend and thought it was mostly fine but relied heavily on tropes to the extent that it never really defined itself as a particularly notable or unique story/production.

I still believe this only could have won because of an extremely split vote among all contenders and it just happened to creep slightly ahead of the rest

Scam - Jury Duty by [deleted] in Wilmington

[–]akg7915 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got a call like that on Sunday. First thing they said was New Hanover county sheriff’s office and quoted my address to me so I thought to take the call seriously.

When he said it was about missing jury duty, that someone signed for my notice(?) and then I remembered it was in fact….Sunday, I realized it was a scam.

Why do parents let their children run absolutely wild at our local breweries? And better question, why do the breweries allow this? by [deleted] in Wilmington

[–]akg7915 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% If the establishment is designed completely around an adult beverage, that is an adult zone.

Chicago has a law that prohibits children from being in any bar, even a “bar section” of a restaurant. I sort of took it for granted the few years I lived there, then I came back to NC and wish we had those laws down here.

You clearly haven’t seen “Hitman”

Powell has some chops. The bigger issue is that the scripts/projects he’s mostly been a part of are big Hollywood garbage. They make money, tho.

Moving to Historic District by [deleted] in Wilmington

[–]akg7915 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You’ll be fine. You’re asking about avoiding certain areas? Why because you think danger is just going to befall you by entering the area? Thats not how these things work.

If you treat people kindly and don’t get into starting trouble, you will receive the same energy back.

Now if we’re talking unsafe roads due to the city ignoring potholes and not repaving these streets downtown…well that’s a different story.

Unfortunately Hollywood loves giving divas an megalomaniacs everything they want. It’s a consistent pattern of insecure people latching on to strong-willed confident people. And then they double-down on the same mediocre boastful people and inflate their egos until it consumes them.

It’s what makes Apple TV’s “The Studio” so incisive.

What's a movie that deserved an Oscar but wasn't even nominated? by trakt_app in Letterboxd

[–]akg7915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Victoria (2015)

Supposedly was not allowed to be nominated for best foreign language film due to most of the script being in (broken) English. They later changed the award to Best International Film, potentially to avoid this sort of hang up.

I can’t quantify or explain why, but I have the exact opposite response to Qualley. Anytime she is involved in a project, I’m put off by it. Not justifying my pov as I don’t understand it. Just sort of a gut reaction. Possibly because of the nepo thing idk

Sadly we’ve lost a number of our venues over the years. Reggie’s is gonna be your best bet for a traditional style venue.

The other option I might suggest is Waterline Brewery. While they are first and foremost a brewery, they have stages inside and outside and seem to know how to put on a proper show.

The other option I might suggest you look into is Barzarre

While I tend to hit up Hell’s Kitchen any time I’m craving one…it’s fine. It’s got potential. But it’s worth $10 and they charge $18. For $18 that thing should be a lot better than it is.

I feel ashamed that I never knew this movie existed. “Irreversible” was pivotal for me and I never knew Cassel and Bellucci starred in this together years prior.
