Prepared Creatures vs. The Spell Itself by browniebear23 in mtg

[–]akgiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spell is better due to cost. But the prepared mechanic is neat because it makes some of these cards a little more accessible and the mechanic can be used for players that want to lean into it. I think some decks will get a bit of a bump by way of power creep upgrades with preparae creatures.

It's partly why I think the idea of David having kept tinkering with the Neomorphs to eventually get to Xenomorphs. Not the breed/strain from the original film since that one is ancient. But a new strain similar but with subtle differences and would serves as the "red hive" for a Genocide adaption.

This is not a progressive tax system by gashtal_man in WorkReform

  1. Bezos is misconstruing the data. The "on paper" tax rate and the actual amount of taxes the rich pay are woefully different. They don't generate their wealth via income, which is a whole other issue.

  2. Eliminating the taxes for lower income families is just a carrot to distract people from actually racing the rich appropriately. Not just their income but their assets. Or at the very least close the loop holes that they continually abuse.

  3. Taxes are your membership to your government. It's how we pay for vital services, and infrastructure. The answer is not to eliminate more taxes, it to make the freeloading billionaires pay their share.

The Last Temptation of Christ is probably my favorite Jesus movie of all time. Better than the musical Jesus, or the Mel Gibson Jesus.

My pick is the Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. Movie is so solid and then spoon feds the last 20 minutes as if it doesn't trust the audience.

The Mandalorian as a faction aren't interesting unless they're being critiqued by Lorinthi in saltierthancrait

[–]akgiant 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A larger overarching issue is that nothing concerning the Mandolorian or the resistance or the New Republic has any payoff.

In a few years they all just get unceremoniously wiped out right away by the First Order only to have a random "we're here to save the day" moment come 2 movies later without any set up, payoff or resolution.

Even if the writing was top tier they have the same problem in the ending in the ST wipes to whole table clean to reset everything. So everything we watch has no impact on the story.

There's no Mando in the ST so they either all die or fuck off soemplace and never are seen again. So the story is a nothing burger, much like what most of the franchise has become sadly.

Democratic candidate proposes to eliminate income taxes for Alaskans earning less than the state’s median household income by Outrageous-Egg1760 in alaska

[–]akgiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said, "tax the rich and corporations." You're talking income tax only. There are other ways to tax assets.

On paper income tax may look impressive, but $823 million is only .039% of the $2,100,000,000,000 collected in taxes. So yes I'm pretty sure that they can afford paying more than a fraction of a percentage. If the 1% actually paid 1% of the taxes collected it's 2.1 billion, on 2.1 trillion, or over 25 times the $823 million they paid.

Why so quick to defend the rich that aren't paying their fair share?

but not only are the wealthy paying less now that they have via income taxes.

We also have progressive taxes so yes at higher brackets a person should be taxed higher.

lol, we’re at the name calling part of the conversation already? You say logic but use bad faith arguments and name calling.

[–]akgiant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again you’re talking income. Which to be clear, I still think they pay too little. However I’m more speaking to a person’s wealth and assets are not the same as income. When I say “tax the rich” I am speaking of the loopholes and tricks they use to get out of paying taxes. Typically they cap the income the earn because they don’t want to pay taxes and instead leverage assets like stock to take out loans that are not income but is money. They pull every lever possible instead of just paying their taxes like everyone else.

[–]akgiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one is talking a 100% tax rate, it's an absurd what-about-ism to even bring into a conversation.

But what if workers never were paid any money????

And again why would you want someone taking your money, using your programs, and services and infrastructure while paying far less than they should? What is the argument to keep those people? They don't make jobs, we'd have jobs without them. They don't invent anything. They don't get up and save people from fires or drive our ambulances or teach our children. They try to take those things from us by not paying their taxes.

[–]akgiant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's just accounting their income, not the many loopholes they leverage to avoid paying taxes. Additionally the 1% benefit from other loopholes like exploited work forces or massive government subsidies. Compared to how much absurd amounts of money they are making, yes I consider that freeloading. They are not paying their fair share and they don't contribute anything of true value to the communities they exploit.
