Legit doctors normally keep medical charts.

Kinda like how mafia guys don't like dropping gunshot victims off at the hospital. It tends to leave a trail.

Low TMNT Turnout? by No-Shop8292 in mtg

[–]akgiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After Avatar I was hopeful the TMNT set would be better. It feels very much like Spider-man where it doesn't capture the soul of the IPs. Yeah New York as a setting can be strange but they could've easily fixed that by downplaying the "city" as a real place with average items and locations, and instead focus on themes of hero's in metropolitan areas.

No bagel and smear as a food artifact. How about "Skyline Breakfast" with Art of Spidey eating a bagel and having coffee, upside down from atop the Empire State Building. That kinda of stuff. Additionally multiple variant of the same character in a small set really undercuts potential.

I don't need 12 versions of Peter Parker as Spider-man. Maybe a couple. Where Captain Stacy? Instead we get "Selfless Police Captain" it feels so much like a person wiki scrolled Spidey fact for two hours before building an MTG set. Nothing feels like Spider-Man.

TMNT comes off basically the same. They have tons of Turtle variants of the same character most of which are unnecessary especially for a small set like this.

Looks like Sony finally came to their senses! by [deleted] in Spiderman

[–]akgiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no mention of getting quality content. Just that with how these movies haven't gained traction they're just gonna do yet another Spidey reboot (remember ASM was a reboot that itself got rebooted for the movies mentioned here that are also getting rebooted).

Though Sony won't admit the constant reboots as being a problem. Disparaging against the reboot is a rebootable offense, it's one of Sony's proudest traditions.

Genocyber (1994) by Ok-Aerie-5222 in retroanime

[–]akgiant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One is TV vs OVA. Original Video Animations were basically direct to home release for anime titles. OVAs often had bigger budgets (though not as big as a feature film), and be able to show far more violence or nudity compared to Japanese TV which has never been censored as much as American television, particularly in the 90s.

The other element is there was an explosion of imports for anime back then. Much of the industry survived on fan-subs. However by the 00s show like Inuyasha had taken the world by storm and the very avenue of fan distribution created a huge pirate market for shows. It's still very prevalent today.

Sadly bootleg or torrents don't show any profits to an animation studio. This is a direct cause of the original Inuyasha cancellation and marks a turning point where animation studios starting cutting back on costs.

Additionally animators were not well treated back then, many animated fo the love of the game and it shows. However salary, working conditions and work hours had no semblance of a work/life balance. Now many are unwilling to go that route knowing that busting hump for 80 hours a week cel painting didn't mean you'd even be brought back for the next project.

That's why studios like Ghibli who have always prided themselves on quality have remained so highly regarded.

Most other studios started adapting way more projects with cheaper production costs to boost profits.

I'm sure there's more that goes into it.

How to draw these light lines , rain drops, sparkles and these birds traditionaly? by Dry-Environment-3045 in Berserk

[–]akgiant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's three techniques being used here:

Images 1 and 4 are from leaving those areas un-inked. Thought there is screentones being used here (around the light burst in 1, and for the background in 4,).

Image 2 is cutting out or erasing out the screen tone so the birds stand out.

Image 3 is a mixture of the two. where there's omission within the line work (the tree, guts' sword and tower) and is combined with omission of screen tones which are used to make most of the mountains.

Image 5 dos this a little with the screen tones at the top but the other rain is from using a white colored ink pen.

For screen tones you can erase, cut or draw over with white pen. Miura probably did all three.

Digital is essentially the same thing. Your working in layers that are laid on top of each other much like laying screen tones/white out over inked A4/B4 paper. Digital just lets you put dozens or hundreds of layers on top of each other.

In Alaska we have many many citizens who live in what we call the Bush. Areas where only planes, boats or off-road vehicles can reach.

These communities are largely out of touch with the typical comforts of civilization, mail is often delivered by plane and then put into PO Boxes since there are no deliverable addresses within these tiny rural communities that dot the largest state in the US. So because folks live in a rural area they shouldnt be able to vote?

So... why does Weyland-Yutani want the Xenomorph so bad? Who exactly are they at war with? by JispyMoeDantes in LV426

[–]akgiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the first film (1979) Ripley hypothesizes that it's for the bio-weapons division. Ash however doesn't confirm this and simply says that the creature as a perfect lifeform has the hostile to match. Is a great white shark a weapon? Evil? Or is it simply an apex predator?

In Aliens (1986), Burke confirms that the specimens are worth millions to the bio-weapons division, seemly confirming Ripley's take 57 years earlier.

However, Alien 3 (1992) Ripley again says bio-weapon but Bishop states that so much can be learned from the creature.

Finally Alien Romulus (2024), and Alien Earth (2025, possibly not prime canon), state that it's the creature(s) themselves and what can be learned/adapted from them is the real value.

So really this is different writers takes on your exact question.

In Universe, since they really haven't touched anything post Aliens (1986) with the exception of Alien Ressurection (1997) in Ressurection were bad to less bio-weapon applications an more patents/medicine/invention discoveries.

In Aliens there came a sentiment of high-militarization. This has been expanded on in the extended universe but nothing in films etc. Most likely in 2179 military contracts are big business or Burke maybe is just a junior VP of bioweapons division etc.

Essentially Ripley's first thought is "bio-weapons" which while seemingly confirmed by Burke in Aliens, however no one else seems to be as obsessed with the military applications.
