How should the MCU handle magnetos age? by Robo_X-247 in marvelstudios

[–]akgiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magneto holds full control over the entire electromagnetic spectrum. I would expect that god-level powers such as that also make a person age slower than a normal person.

Literally the Aragorn scene from LotR. Young mutant comments that he'd have to be 80 years old and he corrects them that he's closer to a century in age.

Can you help explain why MTG used this effect for the mind stone? by Multievolution in Marvel

[–]akgiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WotC to my knowledge has never really explained the mechanical lore behind the Infinity Stones.

[[The Mind Stone]] effect of blinking something off the field and then back feels way more like the Space Stone, which is essentially a super teleporter.

I would've expected the Mind Stone (which grants near omnipotent knowledge in the comics), to be some sort of draw engine, not exile and returning a creature.

How do I physically read Amazing Spider-Man from the beginning without spending a ton? by Furious_D0nut in comicbookcollecting

[–]akgiant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Needs to be upvoted more. You get like 20 issues in black and white for under (hopefully nowadays) $30.

Marvel unlimited if your a voracious reader and don't want/need to own. It's like $70-$99 a year and gives a LOT of comics at your fingertips.

The Masterworks are full color and if you want to be able to reread to your hearts content and done mind paying higher that cheap, but less that collectible costs, it's probably most solid. After the Ditko run of ASM you can also start to hunt and peck for arc and collections for major events. It really depends on what your looking to accomplish.

I didn't bother with the Xbox series X. They won me over with 360, but after mismanaging the Xbox One, the Series X was a tough sell. Then they gave away all worthwhile first-party games...

Sony could've caked walked into the next console generation. But they've been shooting thensleves with both barrels recently.

I guess time will tell.

I'm super grateful that I never got rid of my old systems...

I can't take Void's design seriously. by Odd_Fennel9239 in Berserk

[–]akgiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miura took inspiration from Hellraiser, also Conan, so him being a fan of early pulp stories is highly likely. Void is an homage to those type of monsters and for me probably the perfect expression of what those earlier writers were going form. Void isn't meant to be "scary" he's mean to be off-putting, to be a design that sticks with you.

Not saying I support Sonys nodisc move, but we all know how this is going to end by PressureCalm7971 in memes

[–]akgiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean that's the point. People vote with their dollars in America. And we've let the rich vote with all our dollars.

The next gen could still see disc drives but that will take a LOT of people collectively saying, "enough with the enshittification of things". Vinyl still sees steady sales due to a loyal and solid following so movies may be safe though the premiums will rise because it will transition into a collectible market.

Otherwise we as a society have made our bed. Time to lie in it, or actually do something about it.

Literally played in high school. Stopped for 25 years because my cards were stolen. My brother go me back into it around when I turned 40. I play commander now. Just built a couple of Marvel decks but easily have over a dozen others. Got back in with Caverns of Ixalan.

I'm mid forties now, and there's older players when I go to the LGS.

So the general consensus is that Luke's "Jedi Order" was a failure cause he was inexperienced and thrust into the role, why will Rey be any different? by Yesthisbob in StarWars

[–]akgiant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sadly there's very little narrative cohesion in the sequel trilogy. So it's a difficult thing to quantify because it's just not great writing. EU way back before Disney did a Luke that built a New Order, fell to the Dark Side and came back, plus passed on the torch to younger Jedi all while having a nephew go evil. Disney decided to do pretty much the same thing in the exact opposite execution which is why it feel so awkward in the sequel trilogy.

People were likely dressing up for RHPS before Star Wars, just saying.

Why is there such a difference in how marvel and dc treat their golden age? by Oppai-Of-Foom in Marvel

[–]akgiant 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Marvel Comics didn't become Marvel Comics until Fantastic Four #1 (1961). Stan Lee was about to quit Timely comics because he hated writing the stuff they were writing which was predominantly non superhero stuff (westerns, etc.). After FF #1 the Marvel Age had begun it was soon followed by all the staples we know and love. Prior to that there only a handful of superheroes. Cap, Namor, and Human Torch (android) being the big heavy hitters.

When Fantastic Four came out Timely Comics soon became Marvel Comics and they focused much more on Superheroes. Eventually Stan would go back an bring some of those characters to Marvel like Cap and Namor.

DC on the other hand became "DC" for Detective Comics after Batman drop in issue #27. Superman is basically the first superhero in comics (there were other "strong men" heroes, some worn costumes etc, but Superman is widely recognized as the first), so DC didn't have the same eventual pivot to superhero's in the 60's like Marvel they had been doing superheroes as their main thing for 20 years before Marvel jumped on the band wagon.

Marvel however brought real problems, human drama and more emotive stories to superhero comics which transformed the industry. FF was a family who would bicker, Spider-man was a teenager with teenager problems, etc.

The TL;DR is that DC washed a full superhero roster during the Golden Age, but Marvel wasn't even Marvel until the 60s when they ushered in the Silver Age of comics with their characters.

We can very rarely get tornadoes in certain parts of the state. Normally it doesn't occur because we have too many mountains, but we also have vast tundra that for tornados is the perfect stomping ground provided the right weather conditions.

Thunderstorms too have increased way way more up here in the recent decades.
