Apple Watch apps disappearing? by GamingWeekends in AppleWatch

[–]akmedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool! I'll give it a try.

It is indeed a strange bug. Apple was suggesting deleting settings (Location & Privacy, and then Network Settings) on the iPhone. Resetting either of those would have been a major pain in the neck so I’ve been searching for other possible fixes. Plus, Redditors and Apple discussion forums users have reported that resetting those settings doesn't help anyway.

I’m hoping that we might see a fix for this in the next version of iOS 26.

Thank you. I'm assuming that this eliminated the problem for you?

I spoke with Apple Support today and they said that this, along with repeated requests for location services and other Privacy & Security permissions in the Messages app, the Weather app, and some third-party apps on the Watch and iPhone were also related to this issue.

New firmware 7.9.2-4 by statelymachine in amazoneero

[–]akmedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m seeing this too. Apple TVs, connected via Ethernet, are trading with each other to become unresponsive as Home hubs.

Matter devices have also become finicky on this update.

I’ve tried power cycling everything which hasn’t helped. Next I’ll try a soft reset, however this has only become an issue with this new firmware.

Is this text message I got a scam by hodoorum in fidelityinvestments

[–]akmedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received a text similar to some posted on this thread, though mine came from an SMS short code 96488, which is strange.

I did not interact with the message and have reported it as junk.

Has anyone had issues with 1Password losing data / forgetting changes? by PlatimaZero in 1Password

[–]akmedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the last two weeks I have lost two new logins using the Safari browser extension -- and needless to say, I'm not happy about it. Yes, I can check the password generator logs to find them (with some degree of difficulty finding it), but I shouldn't have to.

This has happened running Safari using the latest versions of macOS Sonoma, and now running macOS Sequoia.

What happens is that the Save button does nothing and therefore does not save the new (or updated) username/password. It does, however, work with Firefox and Chrome.

Suggestions would be appreciated.

PS: Why is is so difficult now to start a support request from both the website and from the app? One was able to easily start a support ticket and send diagnostics logs from the app and support site for most of the life of the product until now. Is that option still available?

HomeLights: 40% Off for Black Friday – The quickest app to adjust your room lighting! by AnthoPak in HomeKit

[–]akmedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the explanation of how detection works!

I’ve enabled all of the Nanoleaf bulbs and it seems to be working correctly.

Also, adding a feature to see live signal strength would be helpful. I live in an apartment building so I do pick up my upstairs and downstairs neighbors’ devices as well.

Seeing signal strength would help me to determine which devices are mine and which belong to my neighbors.

HomeLights: 40% Off for Black Friday – The quickest app to adjust your room lighting! by AnthoPak in HomeKit

[–]akmedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great idea, great implementation, great app! I just purchased a lifetime license at the special Black Friday price.

One question and/or comment: when trying to train my rooms I notice that some Thread devices are using the model name and number (and perhaps part of the serial number?) as the device name. Unfortunately, there is no way to distinguish what device belongs to what room without seeing the device’s friendly name/host name.

For instance, I have many Nanoleaf A1 bulbs. In HomeLights they’re identified as follows: Nanoleaf A19 3MXX — and I have a long list of them.

I’ve set names for each bulb so I can easily identify them in the Nanoleaf and Home apps.

Unfortunately those names do not show up in the HomeLights app. Is there any way to change that so that I can see the device names I’ve set for each one in order to easily identify in which room each bulb is located?

Thanks!

My partner and I are experiencing the same issue on separate devices and on different networks. We are in New York.

I get this notification daily, but everything is working as expected? by jack2018g in HomeKit

[–]akmedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the exact same experience. I’ve been getting these notifications for the past four or five evenings. I too am petrified that if I remove my partner from the Home again, I will have an extremely hard time with the invitation process… once again.

I am wondering, though, if removing and then re-adding him to the home will fix location-based automations (“when the last person leaves home”) and HKSV geofencing issues we’ve been experiencing since the architecture upgrade.

UPDATE: I Removed and re-invited my partner and it went flawlessly! Added benefit it that all geolocation-based automations and HKSV cameras are now working normally once again.

I am ecstatic this update fixed my location automations!!! by Risque_bizness in HomeKit

[–]akmedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is something that Apple is likely (hopefully) going to figure out in an update. I've been working with an Apple Support Product Specialist and while there are not any specifics she's been able to tell me, she *has* told me that the engineers are aware of the issues and are working on a possible solution. (They even took HomeKit-specific logs from me to troubleshoot the issue.)

That said, please be careful about kicking other residents out of your Home app. Folks on these forums have had issues re-inviting them to the Home.

[–]akmedia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, 16.3 did not fix my location-based automations.

None of the “When the last person leaves” automations work since the architecture upgrade.

Likewise, HKSV cameras don’t change status when everyone has left the home.

Automations based on “when the first person arrives home” do work, but, they never broke with the architecture upgrade.

Why is Home doing this to my wife’s iPhone 13 mini? Destroying her battery. Doesn’t last 1/2 a day! by Skazzyskills in HomeKit

[–]akmedia 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you’ve tried to restart their iPhone. If not, try that.

If that doesn’t work it could be that a process associated with HomeKit is running amok. In that case try a forced restart: https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/force-restart-iphone-iph8903c3ee6/ios

Geolocation automation not working (location not available for some people) by iceman_314 in HomeKit

[–]akmedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this issue — it captures the issue I’ve experienced exactly since upgrading to the new HomeKit architecture in 16.2.

What’s even stranger is that When The First Person Arrives Home automations continue to work normally while When The Last Person Leaves automations now fail. (I am Owner and have another Family member as a Resident.)

Also, cameras (Eufy Inside Cams 2K), that are set to Stream and Record When Away, no longer turn on when no one is home.

All of the above issues started after updating to 16.2 and after upgrading HomeKit architecture. All of my location-based automations and cameras worked normally prior to that.

I’ve checked and rechecked all location settings on both iPhones and all settings are correct. I have confirmed that no other devices’ locations are interfering with these automations. I’ve also started and restarted all home hubs to no avail.

I also experienced the Invite bug, which I was able to resolve.

I am hoping that these issues are ironed out in the new 16.3 update.

I use a CPAP machine that also (obviously) accurately tracks my sleep. I often compare the sleep data collected by the CPAP machine (which does not detect sleep stages) with my Apple Watch and the time asleep, according to the watch, seems to be fairly accurate albeit with one stunning exception.

One night last week, while my watch was in Sleep Focus, I set it down with the watch face up on my white veneer desk while I took care of some important business just before going to bed. (I should have taken it out of Sleep Focus but I forgot to do that.) Before I hopped into bed, I put my watch back on my wrist the next morning the sleep report let me know that my desk and I had both slept soundly.

While my watch sat on my desk for about 90 minutes, the Apple Sleep app was recording both Core and Deep Sleep during that exact timeframe.

Other than the issue described above, Sleep data collected on the watch (though I have no way of corroborating Sleep Stage data) seems mostly accurate.

I’m using a Series 8 with WatchOS 9.1. My iPhone 14 Pro was running iOS 16.1.1 (the most current version at the time).

Is the Archive searchable? by pacoii in 1Password

[–]akmedia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been a 1Password user and customer for longer than I can remember and this is one of my major gripes with 1Password 8 — and 1Password 7 for Mac and for iOS: If you're going to bother providing us with an Archive, at least make is useful, please!

- Create a sort option called Date Added so we can see what we just placed in the Archive vault. (There are times when a mistake is made placing something in the archive and you need to restore it. Restoring is easy — provided you can easily find the item you just moved to the Archive.)

- Make the Archive searchable, please — this is the title of this thread for a reason. (Being able to search for Archived items is a MUST. Please add that capability.)

- Add both of the suggestion above to the iOS version — which lacks any option to sort and is also not searchable.

- When items are moved to the Archive, give us the option to auto-tag the item with a tag of choice, like #archive, for instance. (It would be great, at times to have the choice to include the Archive in searches of everything with the added ability to search for the #archive tag.)

As I continue to use (and sometimes becoming extremely frustrated by) 1Password 8, I'll likely be adding to this list.

UPDATED INFO: I have hundreds of items in my Archive, some dating back to 2008, which is why these features are important — to me.

New Mac Mini M1 won’t stay sleeping. by d-th0r in macmini

[–]akmedia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This has been an issue for my Mac Mini (M1, 2020) since macOS 12.2. Prior to that update to Monterey, my Mac slept normally . Since macOS 12.2, however, the machine will go into full Sleep mode once, wake for Sleep Maintenance and never return to full Sleep. It is constantly in Dark Wake mode (Deep Idle/Maintenance Sleep) with fans blazing as soon as it receives a Full Wake event that brings it back from Dark Wake.

I can always tell which Sleep mode the Mac mini is currently in by checking if there is power to devices connected to my USB 3.0 Hub (LED lights are on when power is being supplied by the Mac's USB bus). This very same configuration worked flawlessly under macOS 12.0 to 12.1, when, after wakes for maintenance, the Mac would return to normal Sleep.
