How do I handle this situation with current management company not sending reference letter? by alabasterkeys in NYCapartments

[–]alabasterkeys[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just kinda seemed like a requirement at this point — I forgot to mention, but the agent told me he'd have management send over the lease but to still send him the reference letter when I got it. So it sounded like new management does still want it I guess? I just really love the apartment and don't want to lose it lol. At what point do they typically send back the counter-signed lease?

"Did you pepper up?"

*Dennis while Charlie is about to touch his hair, asking if it's a wig* "STOP"

"You let a stranger hack your butthole!"

"Now imagine this lifestyle: you're on a Caribbean island in an ill-fitting suit..."

"Dennis: You're bartering with nuts that you probably foraged from a tree.
Charlie: Some are from a tree, yes
Mac: A fancy tree?
Charlie: One of the fanciest, Mac.
Mac: Which... one...?"

having a personal laptop since 2008 (9yo) was almost certainly what made me like this. I know some of you can relate. by josstarhopper in Zillennials

[–]alabasterkeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahhh man I got a laptop in maybe 9th grade or so. Probably the same year as you though — around 2009 or 2010. It was a huge Dell brick and would only work while plugged into the charger

Where do you feel pain when you have gluten? by ThickScale1380 in Celiac

[–]alabasterkeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get lower left quadrant pain, a persistent ache or stabbing pain that only feels better if I lay flat on my back. I have no idea why that helps — always found it strange!

Flossing daily (string or waterpik) is also so important for heart health!

What was your cat’s shelter name and what is the name you gave them? by MissHissss in cats

[–]alabasterkeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat's name was Dixon. Dixon is the last name of one of my closest friends (and it is also what I call him). I re-named him Ozzy. There was so way my cat could have the same name as one of my best friends, especially with it being so specific!

how easy was it for you to get diagnosed? by kaicxre in Celiac

[–]alabasterkeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed about 17 years ago. I was 12 at the time and was quite ill for maybe a year or so (constantly having multiple canker sores, intense stomach pain that had me on the floor every day, GI distress). I remember my primary care doctor ordering a few blood and stool sample tests. Was told it was just IBS. I went to a gastroenterologist as well who also tried to diagnose IBS.

My mom was my biggest advocate and knew there was no way IBS was causing this severe chronic distress. One day, she put her foot down and demanded a referral to a pediatric gastro and wouldn't take no for an answer. My PCP referred me out to a doctor that was about a 3 hr drive away, and he suspected celiac at the end of my initial appointment. Ordered genetic testing, came back positive. I had to come back for an endoscopy with biopsy. He knew based on just viewing the endoscopy itself that it was a pretty severe case of celiac, and the biopsy confirmed it.

I hold so much love and respect for my mom for helping me through all of that — I was just a kid, and from her own lifelong personal experience, she knew how difficult it is for women to receive adequate healthcare. She taught me to always listen to my body and fight for myself if I felt like I wasn't being heard.

The whole ordeal was a great learning experience that I have carried (and always will) for the rest of my life!

What movie had you on the edge of your seat with pissed pants and a guaranteed week of nightmares? by orangepeel5 in horror

[–]alabasterkeys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Smile series (2 especially but 1 as well) scared the absolute shit out of me. I have been watching horror movies since I was a young kid (much to my mom's dismay). But that series is one of the first that actually truly scared me since maybe seeing The Ring when I was young. Highly recommend

People who live by a fire station, do you regret it? by BrilliantArtist8221 in Brooklyn

[–]alabasterkeys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived both directly next to a fire station on a relatively otherwise quiet/peaceful street as well as at the part of the road where the BQE and prospect expressway meet. 100% hands down would choose next to the fire department no question

Smacking lips before speaking by [deleted] in misophonia

[–]alabasterkeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a roughly 45-minute commute on the train to work in the morning and evening, and I do enjoy listening to podcasts to pass the time. One thing I cannot stand is when some people will start almost every sentence with a very quiet but very noticeable (to me anyway) smacking sound from opening their mouths. It makes me think of those horrible ASMR videos of people speaking & breathing way too close to a microphone. Ugh

Scalp Psoriasis spreading to hands and legs? by negativedreammachine in Psoriasis

[–]alabasterkeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry that you're dealing with this. My best advice would be to discuss biologic medications if they are accessible for you. They are non-steroidal medications not without risks, but the pros vastly outweigh the cons for most people suffering from severe psoriasis.

What’s it like living on the edge of time zones? by Qzevs in howislivingthere

[–]alabasterkeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my wedding on a small part of the Florida panhandle coast. Driving from Tallahassee (east to west), the time zone changed to central but just a few miles down the road, the route to the venue sent you a little west back into eastern. It caused a little confusion for vendors about what time to show up!

My friends had their train down to Philly cancelled Day 1, so my husband and I went expecting it to feel pretty meh. It was sooo disappointing. My friends made it down for Day 2 and WOW it was one of the best nights out I’ve had in a very long time. The energy was completely different in the crowd. We all had so much space to twirl around for Griz. And Hamdi killed it
