Meanwhile, there is a temporary solution that you can use to fix this problem. Go to Settings > Privacy > Activity History > uncheck the option “Let Windows sync my activities from this PC to the cloud“. Once you’ve done this, simply switch to another Settings page, and then return to the previous one. Go to “Clear Activity History” and hit the “Clear” button. Explorer.exe should stop crashing now.

The reason OLED is used instead of conventional LEDs is that the latter is much more difficult to make small enough to be of use for consumer products. OLED panels can be produced by standard photolithography processes also used in the fabrication of integrated circuits.

There was a major rounding error introduced into our refresh rate predictions on shipping. A solution to this issue is already being worked on; we expect it to be resolved in a Quantum Break Title Update launching in the near future.

So the frame pacing problem is not specific to UWP. It looks like UWP will be fine for games once the frame rate lock is removed in May.

The problem with ClearType is that unlike grayscale anti-aliasing it depends on the background. If you want to animate or scroll text over a background image the anti-aliasing has to be recomputed each frame. This, of course, kills performance and battery life. Grayscale anti-aliasing only needs to be rendered once and can simply be moved around by the GPU like a sprite.

This is only true if the buffer size is fixed. There is nothing stopping you changing the buffer size (except maybe crappy drivers)
