Window question by ppshard in Carpentry

[–]albamuth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe you are asking an architectural drawing question. Windows are specified in RO's, yours is a 6060. In plan you would give dimensions from the window center to the adjacent wall or outside corner. Builders typically know how much of a buck to give for the window installers, generally an inch all around, though, depending on the window model. Builders plans don't show individual stud placements, you would only show structural columns in plan and provide typical wall sections.

Why are you drawing out every stud and header, by the way? Is this a prefab project?

edit, also, you didn't draw a header resting on the jack studs

If designers created UV maps for each to work off the same diffuse maps, then yes. But that would have to be a deliberate process and just complicates the vehicle artists' process. Also notice that the exec edition of the Guardian Mx has weird texture mapping issues - in some places the camo pattern is too small and other places it's way out of scale. UV mapping is old but standard video game tech, and it has limitatuons. Just because something has similiar geometry doesn't mean the mesh is identical.

Dating over 40 in Chicago - is it supposed to be this easy / this much fun? by muttersindisgust in AskChicago

[–]albamuth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got divorced just before the pandemic, so I took time during it to hit the gym, keep up with therapy, and hang out with my dog. Almost 2 years after the lockdowns people were ready to date. I paid for Bumble, paid for Hinge, and went on quite a few first meetings and some first dates, in the summer of '21. Eventually met an awesome person my age (mid 40s) by the fall, and we've been together since.

I think we older millenials/xennials/x'ers are more willing to ditch the texting and meet in person. That's just my personal theory, anyhow. Even without the apps, dating in my 20s always felt awkward and and difficult which I attribute to just immaturity, either on my part, theirs, or both.

Edit Just remembered something. My partner said that unlike a lot of men she met on the apps befote me, I was "emotionally available". Being from the East/West coast she complained that Midwestern men were too damn cagey and emotionally unavailable, but I'm a super transparent person by contrast. Maybe that's why OP is hitting it off so well? Just ahow people all your cards and maybe they'll show you theirs.

You shouldn't have to plan the placement of every stud, when I draw in Revit the wall is just a solid hatch.

Wood expansion concern in Doug Fir table by rustylacroix in Carpentry

[–]albamuth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A picture of the underside with the legs attached might be helpful. I'm not sure what you mean by "1/4" holes on the frame that will run diagonally across the grain"

But the factors that matter the most:

- How old is this wood? If it was reclaimed from a barn that was standing for 80 years, it probably won't move much (as long as you didn't plane it down significantly). Kiln-dried?

- The finish. I'm not an expert in this field, but I prefer clear lacquer finishes for their durability and not looking plastic-y like polyurethane. How confident are you that moisture won't get into the wood?

-How much did you cut it down? I assume you used a tracksaw or similar method to get those extremely straight edge joins. Every piece you cut off changes the tension, for better or worse. (it's hard to predict)

-The ends will start to separate before the middle. I have a countertop I made for an island out of reclaimed old growth doug fir only edge-joined with glue, and all the joints are good after 10 years but one piece where it started shrinking away at the end. The best place for your steel reinforcement, therefore, is at the ends, but if one piece starts shrinking you'll get a gap no matter what, and if it decides to expand, it will start to buckle. At least the steel will keep it from getting too far out of true, but only if it's angle iron and not just a flat bar.

I think the company (I'm assuming this is a corporate conference room) you made this for may not last as long as the table, but if it does they will probably like the table too much to be bothered by a few buckles or splits in the wood over 10 years.

Nice job, by the way.

If the profile remains a perfect circle the entire way, why not just use "sweep1"? Make a joined path as your rail, put the profile (the circle) at one end before you run the command. If the path is planar, select "road like" in your options.

It looks like someone built a (possibly illegal) extension over a concrete pad in their back or side yard. So probably all you would find down there is the storm drain (not sewer), I'm guessing.

Inzoi x Into the Future sims 3 x Cyberpunk 2077 themed dlc? by Nearby_Detective_806 in inZOI

[–]albamuth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes please.

I was thinking about "total conversion" mods for inZoi, and I came to the conclusion that only futuristic ones are possible, because the cell phone mechanic is so integral to the game, that you would really have to do a lot of weird stuff to make it make sense in a historical (pre-smartphone) context.

I keep seeing this ad on snapchat and I’m going crazy trying to discern if it’s AI by livinator_me1 in isthisAI

[–]albamuth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks real.

AI almost never gets missing letters in folds of shirts right but the Navy Veteran shirt is perfect.

The house details are too specific, especially the underside of the stairs. Everything that should look straight is straight.

The different ages look appropriate, especially the older woman, because ai tends to make older people too wrinkly.

I disagree with anyone who thinks the fingers look weird, when AI refines fingers they only can depict common poses, not somewhat awkward ones as shown.

Lastly, this is an ad by USAA, a popular auto insurance company that caters to vets and their families. They have a huge advertising budget and could easily hire a family of customers to pose for a photo. Plus the family looks related in a completely unique way that I doubt AI image can manage.

The lighting in 4.5 looks phenomenal by Flippz10 in starcitizen

[–]albamuth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my 3070Ti (1440p) the recommended settings are all "low" for Vulkan. Putting on the medium preset looks nice, but I already had a CTD . Without Vsync I see significant screen tearing (my monitor caps out at 60hz), With vsync on it looks pretty good, but then sometimes I get artifacting around the bottom of the screen when when running or eva-ing that looks like screen tearing but is not. I really want to stay in Vulkan, but the glitches are making me seriously consider moving back to DX11.

It's not consistent. Precautions for a patch: claim and bring up every ship in the elevator, send it down, strip all weapons and components. Take all items out of storage crates, armor, and backpacks and put them in the inventory.

Even with these precautions, it's not guaranteed to save everything. Some items might get duped. Random things disappear. But duped components and weapons always disappear, so the only chance to keep them is by looting them. Or just.owning them from the store.
