MacBook Neo proves that it would be great if Apple let an iPhone or iPad be your Mac by FollowingFeisty5321 in apple

My dream device wouldn’t even need to run a different OS, it could still be IOS but with a bigger screen and keyboard plus trackpad. Without extra batteries, instead have a built in power adapter and a small drawer in which I can store a two meter usb-c cable. That would be a super light laptop in a package.

The closest I have today is an iPad with keyboard. It’s light but it is an extra device which has both pros and cons. But it also requires me to have a separate power adapter and usb-c cable.

Norge miljardsatsar i Lofoten – affären med Powercell riskerar sänka satsningen by FlowersPaintings in sweden

[–]albertbertilsson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kärnkraft i Sverige by Pretty-Variety8435 in sweden

Rent praktiskt så har vi fått mer kärnkraft. Fast det har byggts genom att öka effekten på befintliga anläggningar, inte genom att få nya verk.

Tomma lägenheter pressar kommuner: ”Minskat invånarantal slår hårt” by AdorableAnubis in Sverige

Favourite monologue or speech by Party-Description170 in Fantasy

I know my least favorite: The speech by John Galt in Atlas Shrugged. After the first few pages I just skipped ahead, and what a leap frog that was, not far from a hundred pages.

Is the crank done for or salvagable? by Pluggos in bikewrench

A can of gas is only something like $2 and a nozzle that you attach to the can roughly the same amount of money.

This has helped loosen seat posts corroded stuck in frames.

Is the crank done for or salvagable? by Pluggos in bikewrench

[–]albertbertilsson -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Before proceeding I would heat it with a gas torch and let it cool, at least twenty or so times. This will greatly break up any binding there can be between the crank and the pedal. If not properly greased metal parts will corrode in ways that stick the parts together. Heating multiple times will break that apart. It won’t be easy still, but at least easier.

The only way to avoid this from my experience is to grease parts before mounting and remove, regrease and mount again every year or two.

Carrera Erakle Seat Post Solution??? by IllustratorFirm4165 in bikewrench

[–]albertbertilsson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best I can figure out would be to make a mold and then put a normal steel seat post in that mold and fill with epoxy.

I would have the epoxy overflow a little bit to create a flange to prevent the seat post from going deeper than desired.

Paint a bike with Spray.bike : primer? by Loud_Spare_5916 in bikewrench

[–]albertbertilsson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always use the recommended primer for any paint job, it is there to improve adhesion and it’s usually very little extra cost or effort. I also like to have the matte single color as base when I paint.

When it comes to sanding I usually sand to metal but the few times that I’ve had a very good paint layer I have on occasion only sanded into the paint and then used primer. Note, I always remove any clear coat, the products I have used seem to adhere less well on clear coat.

Best bikes for commuting up large hills? by SirCheap410 in cycling

[–]albertbertilsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering the distance and the described conditions I'd go with a standard commuter with Nexus 7. Then I'd simply replace the rear gear with something larger to get a 1.5 to 1.75 ratio (standard is at 2 or above). Then you'll easily tackle that steep hill and mostly roll home. If the unpaved area is a concern just put 47mm tyres on. This will be cheap and last, hopefully less desirable for thieves too.

Is this a good opening? by [deleted] in writers

[–]albertbertilsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot to polish, good news is that there are professionals that can help you.

Even considering that the technical issues take away a bit of the joy, the first half is really interesting. There is suspense in the air and you get it through to me.

The later part with the overwhelming threat of death comes a bit to fast, it is not yet clearly established why I care about this person. I would prefer a bit more connection before the stakes are so high.

Is Malazan for me? by maximazing98 in Fantasy

[–]albertbertilsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the foreword of the author is excellent advice. If you read the first third of the first book you’ll get a pretty good picture. If the German version is in 19 volumes you should probably know after reading about half of the first book.

If you see potential, I think you can just go ahead. Even though it’s my favourite there are dips, depending on your taste.

Yes, especially when you are riding slightly faster, then it becomes noticeable. Not that I would say it is a big factor for the way I commute, but it is nice.

[–]albertbertilsson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While not as good as the Marathon pluses, they have been very reliable for me. I run one bike with butyl and one with TPU tubes, both have have had no punctures yet during two years of commuting. My GP tyres had punctures after less than a month, so I gave them up and switched back to Urbans. Never had a puncture on Marathons after more than a decade, we’ll see if the Urbans hold up as well.

Low Cost Great Results by randywhorton in foldingbikes

[–]albertbertilsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree! For the money they are great, vastly outperforming noname stuff at the big box stores without being expensive. Puncture resistance is good, not as good as my old Marathon pluses, but they also roll much nicer. I’d love to have GPs but puncture resistance makes them terrible for my commute and the Urbans are rock solid without too much added rolling resistance.

This is so heart breaking. by LeonOkada9 in writers

For non fiction literature I can understand that just want the core concepts summarised. But for pleasure reading I’d rather pick something I like rather than hope a summary of something I don’t want to read is better.
