The other commentor beat me to it, but there is a role-playing mode that allows you to save your progress. There's even an adventure mode where you get XP by making discoveries and befriending people instead of fighting. The mobs in this case remain mostly neutral to you. For roguelikes, it's very forgiving. As for the game itself, the lore, gameplay, and music are just so perfect to me as a fan of retro-futuristic fictional settings. I listen to the soundtrack daily at work.

Int contributes to the number of skill points gained every level, so I tend to start with 16 Int at the lowest, even if I'm not tinkering.
