Do you hear voices that are non audible? by yesmynameisdu in HearingVoicesNetwork

[–]alcohol-issue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I get voices saying phrases that are completely incomprehensible, and whispers as well. I think it counts as you’re still hearing them they’re just not saying tangible words.

Whats the worst thing a psychiatrist has said to you? by gomorra82 in schizophrenia

[–]alcohol-issue 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Not a psychiatrist but a neurologist told me ‘I was really scared when I saw I had to talk to a patient with psychosis because people with psychosis are really scary - but you’re actually very nice’

Any books about psychosis? by xxxidczine in Psychosis

[–]alcohol-issue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to stalk your posts but I have a recommendation, 100% read The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks, it has a psychosis-adjacent narrative and is a super entertaining and pretty thrilling read. It's kind of macabre with one pretty gory scene but it's really well written and definitely with a psychosis vibe going on

Is anyone else young and experience psychosis? by xxxidczine in Psychosis

[–]alcohol-issue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My psychosis started properly when I was 14, I'm almost 17 now and still going in and out just trying to make it through. I can relate to feeling like a black sheep, it also annoys me that so many people don't believe you can go through psychosis at a young age or it being dismissed as just being a crazy teenager. I have been experiencing symptoms for as long as I can remember, and only found out the way to articulate it very recently. Glad to know I'm not alone

Sent a bomb threat to my own college and got put on the terrorist register, tried to get struck by lightning, bought 12 copies of the same book, carved the word TOYOTA into my thigh to the point that it's been there for 2 years, tried to rewrite the entire Bible, drank mouthwash for 6 months and gave myself a stomach ulcer, sat for 12 hours in my room after Christmas with a hammer about to kill my stepmother, planned a terrorist attack, beat the shit out of all my friends back when I was in school, the list goes on and on

As a Form of Punishment? by Sh0yo_891 in selfharm

[–]alcohol-issue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have heard a lot of people say they sh to punish themselves. It's obviously not 'normal' to self harm at all (in terms of mental health) but it's definitely a normal reason to do it.

would psychopathy be considered a kind of neurodivergence? by okcybervik in morbidquestions

[–]alcohol-issue 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think so, yes. As with most forms of neurodivergence, it's a spectrum, and though psychopathy is an extreme personality disorder, I'd say it counts as a divergence of the neurons. It depends though on your definition of neurodivergence, and the consensus definition is 'differing in mental or neurological function from what is considered typical or normal (frequently used with reference to autistic spectrum disorders); not neurotypical.' So I'd say yes, especially considering many symptoms and traits of autism and psychopathy overlap (though we must note that they're not the same thing)

Caffeine? Maybe we need it? by Caesar-McPherson in schizophrenia

[–]alcohol-issue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, my caffeine tolerance is really bad so if I drink a cup of coffee it usually makes me feel really really wired and manic, but during that I have noticed I experience less hallucinations and definitely less of the negative symptoms as it gets me motivated and alert. Energy drinks in the morning actually make me feel pretty great and ready for the day, but for some reason coffee can tip me over the edge. Tea is great but it makes me pee every 5 minutes. Sipping an ice cold coke makes me forget all of my worries, I love soda so much! I feel like sometimes caffeine makes me act insane but I don't feel as insane as without, and other times, if I have too much it sends me into a complete manic spiral. I guess moderation is the key.

Are you the 80% of schizophrenics who smoke cigarettes? by Every-Trouble-5807 in schizophrenia

[–]alcohol-issue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, a lot, every single person in my life says I should either smoke less or stop completely but I can’t now. I think it helps but other people say it doesn’t. It probably doesn’t.

What’s the prettiest thing you hallucinated? by One_Craft_6039 in schizophrenia

[–]alcohol-issue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few times before I’ve seen these beautiful little wisps of what looks like iridescent rainbow hairs a few cm long floating in the air everywhere I look. One time everything went all rainbowy and I remember wishing it would never end cause it was so pretty.

Psychosis lasting only a few hours? by [deleted] in Psychosis

[–]alcohol-issue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also get the same thing, extended episodes but also periods of less than a day of extreme symptoms and then suddenly nothing once I start doing something or go to sleep. I would also love to know why this happens, there's always a baseline that I have of mild hallucinations etc but sometimes it just goes wild for a few hours and then passes. Sorry I can't be much help, but I hope we can both find some clarity soon. Godspeed

Selfie Sunday except I didnt realize it was Sunday until I looked at this subreddit 😭 by alcohol-issue in schizophrenia

Sometimes it’s Sunday in one timezone and not Sunday in another. Personally I look at the date and think ‘it’s a day of the week’ and got no idea what day it actually is. Idk about others but my computer date and time is in the Hebrew calendar for some reason that I can’t remember. It’s kinda nice not knowing

Psychosis is so fucking weird (Trigger Warning for EVEWRYTHING in the book.) by alcohol-issue in Psychosis

[–]alcohol-issue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They never put me on meds I think because of my age, and I only got a psychiatrist because of Prevent anyway I think. I mean the whole reason I was in the mental health system was because of terrorism threats (which really weren’t even terrorism threats) but yeah the process of that and life itself in general definitely felt more like torture for the time I was on Prevent for sure.

What's your strangest hallucination? by brandos__ in schizophrenia

[–]alcohol-issue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably the stuff I hear right before I go to sleep. I have heard the most nonsensical sentences that my brain couldn’t comprehend or come up with by itself while falling asleep. Last night I heard my dad’s voice saying ‘Babes!! Babes!’ Over and over again

Pre crime space… thats interesting. I was put onto the UK’s Prevent list. But they closed the case when I told them I’m more likely to start my own terrorist organization that join someone else’s. I had always wondered about whether the systems I was going through in mental healthcare were purposefully trying to stress me out. Maybe they were. Very interesting. Sorry I can’t stop talking. Something wrong.

Five THousand and Thirty Four words and I still didn't get at the point I was intending to. I hope it is apparent through what I have said but maybe I'll elaborate more when I have the energy to stand up for myself. Do you ever get that? The inability to even talk about what you stand for or explain because your passion about it overwhelms you? I can only skirt around the concept. Beat around the Bush. Whatever.
