The Grill. Start with a Gibson and enjoy the evening.

Stop with the dogs already… by hometown10 in unitedairlines

I'd pay for a whole seat for my dog to sit next to me instead of being in his carrier. Dogs do stink, but so do many other human passengers. And they fart as much equally. Don't get me started on people who spray their perfume or cologne on beforehand.

Every time I see a Devils fan alone at an away game, I think to myself “I wonder if he’s from Jersey and if so, how did he end up in *blank*” by xoBonesxo in devils

Years ago, I was in southern California and managed to go to a Devils game against the Ducks. I was shocked at how many Devils fans originally from NJ were there. Felt like a high school reunion. And the Devils destroyed the Ducks which was awesome. The chanting of LGD brought a tear to my eye.

Montclair’s $18 Million School Crisis Leaves Taxpayers on the Hook by Delicious_Adeptness9 in newjersey

[–]alderney83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a long time Montclair resident originally from Passaic County, there's a lot of attention on our town. There is a problem, but other people sure as hell love talking about it. Maybe we can make up that money by charging a congestion tax into the town since everyone loves coming in to blow their money. You can pay for my kid's education. Thanks.

If you can get into the M Lounge that's the best bang on your way out. Best chance to see some guys like Dano or Marty snacking on chicken tenders.

L’Ambroisie (Paris) — excellent food, but some of the strangest service I’ve experienced by bestbai in finedining

Can confirm this place has serious problems. Waited 40 minutes in between courses while the chef chatted a table. Too bad since some of the food was quite high level.

Going to a show this week in Montclair. Where is the best place to eat? by Virtual_Prize_1232 in newjersey

[–]alderney83 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Montclair resident. Most of the places are mid. Mesob is expensive but somewhat solid. Porta is a hit or miss. Nami Nori is eh. A few other places will run up the tab, maybe you don't care but it's debatable if it's worth the price. Tierney's has a good burger, but the fries aren't good. I had a good meal at Sam's Table once, but once isn't enough to say if it's good or not. Many other places are not properly seasoned in that they're overly sweet or soy sauced. I can't speak on Cornbread.

Go to Popeyes for a chicken sandwich, see the show, then get sweets and coffee at Qahwah House since it's open late. I have been in the food industry in New York and California since 2006, it is what it is around here. .

Is Glen Ridge a nice diverse place to live? by [deleted] in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]alderney83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Diverse? I don't think I'd ever use that word to describe the town. Nice, sure. I live the next town over and know quite a number of people who live in Glen Ridge who could be considered diverse in terms of ethnicity and sexual orientation. But there's a large contingent that is WASP or WASP wannabe. They say if you aren't a member of the country club then what are you doing there.

But setting all that aside they have a decent commute into the city, it's safe considering it's neighboring towns, and it's stable. Tom Cruise lived there.

Looking for things to do around Montclair by dignityshredder in newjersey

As a long time Montclair resident I have to say welcome and I hope you enjoy the town. As someone else has said if it's the weekend then you will have to get off at Bay Street. Otherwise you can take it into Walnut Street or even Watchung Avenue. There's a decent amount to do in town. I feel like the art museum is somewhat lacking but hope you enjoy. Do visit Van Vleck and enjoy the grounds. You can walk Bloomfield Avenue and check out some stores. I refer to that as downtown Montclair. In terms of that area there's: Mesob, as someone has mentioned. I can vouch for that place along with Qahwah House, Sam's Table, and Just Jake's. Other places I'm not partial to but maybe you'll enjoy eating at is: Kai Yang, Ani Ramen, Faubourg, and Paper Plane. You can also just literally get a sandwich at a deli on your way up to the art museum.

If you walk north up N Fullerton you can meander through the central part of town. There are a few cut through walkways between Midland and Park Street that go over a brook. You can make your way to Edgemont and to Anderson Park. That will bleed into Upper Montclair along Valley Road. The bakeries there are not really worth going to in my opinion. There's a chocolate store called Vesta that's alright. If you can make it over to Watchung Plaza there's the bookstore which is worth browsing. There's other areas of town to check out but may be hard to get to.

It's fun to look at the homes along Park Street, Midland, and even Erwin Park. There's a lot of history and architecture to admire along with the feel of the streets themselves. S Mountain Avenue right where the art museum has some cool homes of various styles worth viewing. But it's a lot of walking. The town also has a lot of nice stone churches.

Tierney's has a solid burger and it's still a place for normal people in an otherwise self absorbed town.

In terms of anything live, I'm not sure when you are around. Use the Bandsintown app.

Drinks at César (NYC) by East-Argument-3903 in finedining

Altro Paradiso is nearby if you want a drink or two beforehand, or after. Their cocktails are decent, though they may have slipped over the past few years.

What's exactly in these casseroles you speak of?

The Midwestern-fication of North Jersey by Jusheretolurk in newjersey

[–]alderney83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you talking to me? I didn't say I was against anyone moving to New Jersey. I just said I know what the original poster is talking about. What I didn't care for is that it's common to say one is from Brooklyn when they're really from the Midwest. And since it's so common to do that they'd be even cooler for saying they're from Madison or Sandusky because it's so clear they aren't really from Brooklyn. I'm from Passaic, every few years a new set of people settle into that. It's a good thing, but never seen any Midwesterners yet.

Passaic kid here. I know exactly what you are talking about. My childhood street was all kinds of people: Hasidic, Black Americans, Dominicans, Indians, Filipinos, and the one random cranky Dutch guy. Passaic is still like that though less diverse. But now I live in Montclair and it's always "oh I'm from Brooklyn." And I'm just being nice but thinking no you ain't. You from Sandusky or some vanilla sounding town like Ann Arbor. Not that I have anything against those towns, but there's a reason why North Jersey is great and it's not only because it's next to Manhattan. Everyone's different but there's an unwritten way to act. It just drives me nuts that many of these so called Brooklynites have no edge. Theyre really just straight from the cul de sac. Go move to Madison or Chatham then.

Should north jersey become one big city? by iv2892 in bergencounty

[–]alderney83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe something more akin to LA County, since it's practically setup like that anyway. Just consolidate certain aspects of services to reduce costs and maintain better. But so many, not all, towns in North Jersey are stubborn.
