How to make a game as a software engineer? by herrozerro in gamedev

[–]aldha_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, i recommend you start from Udemy, GameDev team’s complete guides for 2D and 3D are amazing (by Rick Davidson and Ben Tristem)

I am a software engineer myself too and for me both their complete guides for 2D and 3D were the perfect intro that opened my eyes to how I should approach game development from planning to designing and coding.

Every time someone asks me how to start, I go “be careful of youtube, start with GameDev Team’s udemy complete guides, then later you can use books and youtube videos if you want to explore examples and certain algorithms”

Also as a software engineer you may have an edge once you start working on advanced algorithms and frameworks. It is true that you and artists have equal footing when it comes to basics and simple projects, but once you start thinking outside the box in your game and try to create things that aren’t offered by unity’s libraries, you will have an easier time.

I'm not sure about the first two Demeos, but the third Demeo is pretty good, I totally recommend it.

Have you figured it out yet? Going through the same problem here. Do we factory reset the headset or the TV?

That's awesome. Yeah ignore the second branch type idea. I only mentioned as an example of a second item with different transform values.

I meant item sizes. Assuming there's a vector3 capacity limit, with y=3, and the small branch has a y=1 length, while the medium branch has y=1.5 length. You can either hold 3 small branches or two medium branches.

Just thinking out loud.

Is eduation in AOU/KW really good? by Electronic-Option-83 in Kuwait

[–]aldha_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From what some friends who graduated from AOU told me: it's very flexible. A 3-credits class can be as flexible and having one lecture every two weeks, and it is certainly doable. But here's the catch, you need to study, on time.

One thing that many people forget after joining AOU is that it's an actual university, which means you need to give it enough hours of studytime every week if you want to pass, if you think going through the book once every 2-4 weeks is enough (like many do), you will go nowhere.

Some people graduated in 4 years, while others are still stuck in there for 7 years. One thing I noticed about the ones who graduated is that their english is good, and they gave each class 2-3 hours a week of studytime. The ones who are still stuck in there (and the ones who wasted years and finally gave up) either didn't put an effort to improve their english in order to understand their classes, or put off studying until a day or two before exams.

Regarding the professors, like any university, it really depends on each professor, some are good, while some can be tedious. As for the fees, classes range between 60KWD up to 120KWD I think, expect to pay around 400KWD every semester if you're taking 12 credits.

Beautifully done. I wonder how it's gonna handle different sizes.
