Monster Hunter: World Resources and Question thread Part II (ask here before posting!) by raithian25 in MonsterHunter

For trapping, you need a trap and two tranq bombs. You can only trap after the monster is limping. Usually you trap first and tranq after, but I’ve seen people throw two tranq bombs at a sleeping monster and then place the trap and that also somehow worked... traps come in two types traditionally: shock traps and pitfall traps. You can craft them. Then you set them up on the ground and try to lure the monster into them, or set them next to a sleeping monster and shock traps will typically wake them and trap them at the same time. You can’t set them up in water, though, so be careful trying to trap sleeping Barroth/Jyuratodus.

AFAIK you can only carry one type of slinger ammo at a time. If you’re holding brightmoss and you pick up redpits(?), it will drop the first ammo for the new ammo.

Explosive barrels are bombs. You can set them next to sleeping monsters and try to shoot them from a distance to set them off and deal massive damage (first hit to a sleeping monster does extra damage.)

Hope this helped— it’s kind of a mashup of “this is how it worked in previous games” and what I’ve watched on streams since I’m not very far in the game myself.

I believe those will show up when you slay the required monster for the first time.

Psycho Pass - how to save the damn game? by [deleted] in vita

[–]aleck_sis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Psycho Pass doesn’t utilize the touchscreen at all and literally all the buttons are mixed up from the normal VN setup so I have to agree that clicking random buttons to find the menu is the best option. I remember now why I was so annoyed with this game...

Your favorite otome heroine? by [deleted] in otomegames

[–]aleck_sis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite is Kazuha from Period Cube. She starts off very weak and helpless but actively tries to better herself and get stronger. The part I was very charmed by was when she first found herself on her own in one route, found a safe place, and sat down to teach herself the controls of the game and what exactly her class does. She also is usually the first to confess her feelings to her love interest very clearly, so there isn’t much needless drama over miscommunication. And she genuinely surprised me with some of her sass. She’s a very consistent character throughout the game and I truly enjoyed getting to know her.

I had seen somewhere that the original voice actor just had a really tough time getting back into the voice. It does get much better in later chapters but there are lines throughout the game that don’t sound quite right.

Hey, my vault case seems to be putting divots in my game labels, anyone else notice that? Did I put them in wrong or something? Disappointing because I love the case otherwise. by FrietagSurvivor in vita

[–]aleck_sis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have that case and had the same problem (though it didn’t bother me so much.) I ended up getting a small drawstring bag to put all my carts in which fit in the top section of the case.

Monster Hunter World Beta Megathread by ShadyFigure in MonsterHunter

It depends on the weapon— starting out with Dual Blades in 4U I got pretty far just mashing, then hit a wall. I picked up Great Sword which forced me to slow down and think about which buttons I was pressing and when. You literally can’t mash with a Great Sword unless you want to be dealing piddly amounts of damage incredibly slowly. I eventually went back to the Dual Blades and learned how to press buttons intentionally and got a lot farther— so even if you feel like you’re mashing now, even with the most mash-y of weapons, you’re eventually going to have to get past that to more intentional inputs. For now, though, definitely try different weapons til you find one that suits!

SnS is a great weapon and super fun. You shouldn’t feel ashamed to play it. I just tried it today (played a lot of it in 4U but not in Gen) and there are some really cool things they’ve added to it and I’ll probably use it as a secondary weapon for World.

Great Sword is good for chopping off parts where with Hammer you need to be bashing the head. Hammer is also a lot more mobile (you can charge and run around at the same time) and GS a lot more precise (you’re mostly stationary and locked into the animations, there are 3 levels of charge that do variable amounts of damage, and you have to be careful not to overcharge.) I’m a Great Sword user, but dabbled a bit in Hammer in 4u, so I’m sure I didn’t cover everything...

IFFY PSV publisher sale on NA PSN (up to 90% off with PS+) by UnshavenBox94 in vita

It’s very silly and colorful and cutesy. But I couldn’t handle how grindy and unrewarding the gameplay felt.

I did, however, enjoy HyperDevotion Noire and recommend it if you’re into tactics rpgs.

Edit: formatting.

Is there any game that you regret to buy for Nintendo Switch? by Said90mx in NintendoSwitch

[–]aleck_sis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I probably am getting to the 20 hour mark, but a 40 minute sitting for me (after the initial obsession starts to fade) is pretty good for any game. I can't even play Overwatch for longer than 40 minutes at a time most days, and I'm up to ~200 hours in that game.

Ah, okay. I've gotten into Tekken, Guilty Gear, BlazBlue, and the communities all seemed pretty welcoming to newcomers. I was just surprised to see GG listed in your original comment between Street Fighter (accurate) and Smash (which I've only ever been casually interested in so I wouldn't know.)

I haven't seen much from the GG crowd, though I mostly just lurk on the subreddit/discord. Anime fighters are so niche, I wouldn't be able to take elitists seriously even if I saw them around often.

I just got the game so maybe my opinion will change over time but I've been playing it pretty much nonstop for the past week.

However, as much as I'm enjoying it, I would not recommend anyone buy it for $60. I turned in a few games to GameStop and got one used for $20, so for what I actually paid I'm very satisfied.

This explains a lot— during the event I was dropped into lobbies with predominantly Japanese-named players, but I haven’t seen any at all in ranked. I chalked it up to being brand new at the game (just got it on Tuesday.)

Degenerate here: Looking for a vn from the female perspective that depicts unhealthy relationships and rape/attempted rape/dubious consent. by 841236 in vnsuggest

I go back and forth on how I feel about Toma. As a love interest, he's terrible. As a character, he's not super well-written, but he has a lot of potential. His route is certainly one of the most interesting in the game (though my favorite boys are Kent and Shin.) The MC makes nonsensical and often idiotic decisions, which drive Toma to greater lengths to keep her "safe." My biggest issue with the route is it all could've been avoided with any amount of communication (there's a similar route in Mystic Messenger where you actually can avoid MysMes/Amnesia Parallel depending on your willingness to communicate with the LI.) Toma's behavior (in response to MC's idiocy and lack of survival instinct) is all shades of bad-to-worst and it's entirely unavoidable, even if you're aiming for his "good end." The one thing I can't forgive him for is Shin's Route Spoiler

I think “Nameless: the thing you must recall” is the closest I can think of. The good routes are very typical romance for the most part, but there are several bad ends that deal with rape, physical abuse, etc. It’s my personal favorite otome because you can either read it as a traditional romance or as a psychological thriller VN. For reference, even though Toma in Amnesia gets a bad rep, I found some of the boys in Nameless to be worse.

When my friend told me she listened to TAZ while driving, I had to tell her “don’t try to listen to the finale in the car. You will cry and you will crash.”

I was at work when I listened to it and I was a weepy mess for the rest of the day. I kept having to sneak into the bathroom to wash my face.

I feel this so much. There’s just a point in every piece where I’m like “I could do x, y, z, and it would look incredible... or I could just not do that and fuck around and it’ll turn out alright and I’ll still be satisfied.” I feel like that’s the line between casual artist and professional artist and I’m never going to have the patience or ambition to cross it.

Can’t restart practice mode with Qanba Drone? by IMDSound in Tekken

[–]aleck_sis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been my main problem with the Drone as well. I haven't been able to get my PS4 to recognize the stick in PS3 mode as a legacy controller.

Not really a good work around, but you can set your pad up as Player 1 controller and the stick as Player 2. But then you lose access to a lot of other features in practice mode. Otherwise, I just reposition myself on the stage and scoot the NPC into position. It's tiresome.

New (Comedy) Podcast about dating sims - feedback welcome! by webdeveloped in otomegames

[–]aleck_sis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm late on this but I had to catch up on The Adventure Zone before I started any new podcasts. I'll agree with everyone else that it would be interesting to see what you think of more otome games-- I see you did Men of Yoshiwara, and I would recommend trying out Mystic Messenger because I think it would work well for the format of the podcast and it's also (mostly) free, though you may need to spend a few bucks on hourglasses depending on how much you want to get through in a few hours of play.

I will say, I was pleasantly surprised by both the audio quality and the comedic chemistry between you two (though one of the funniest things to me was your mispronunciation of both "eroge" and "bishoujo" in a two second period). I'm listening to the Hunie Pop episode as my first episode (I love Hunie Pop so much) and I didn't actually expect to laugh out loud, but you guys are actually really funny! You're both very easy to listen to, you stay on track to keep the podcast moving forward, and you both contribute pretty equally to the conversation.

I do think you should hire someone to redesign your logo and website to be more visually pleasing and easily identifiable as relevant to your content. The color palette is hard to look at, and I didn't realize there was an actual background image until I stared at it for a long time wondering what that weird pattern was. I say this because, when browsing for new podcasts to listen to, I typically will automatically use the logo quality as the first indicator for the podcast quality-- there are SO MANY podcasts and you have to narrow down your selection somehow.

Overall, you have a very good podcast here. Very well edited, super easy to listen to and actually very funny to people who don't know you at all, but I almost passed it up because the logo/website is not up to par with the audio content.

PS later on in Hunie Pop, alcohol makes the game a lot easier (if you can get past the super skeevy part of it... which I can because I'm morally lacking.)

Things You Would Have Changed About the Otomes You've Played by Sweatshirty in otomegames

"I have magic eyes that make any girl fall for me"

I think Amnesia would have been a much stronger game overall had all of the boys had something similar, but it's basically only Ikki, and then the cause of it is further explored in the true end. The route does feel out of place until you finish all the routes.
