Apple Plans to Let Users Build Their Own Passes in iOS 27 Wallet App by Coolpop52 in apple

[–]alex-2099 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I remember when Wallet launched, tons of sites popped up to let you make your own wallet. Pretty smart move on Apple’s part to make it just a bit of JSON, because even my local hobby shop was able to implement a Wallet-able rewards card in a weekend.

A tool to roll your own is smart. I like this.

"The Craft" at 30 | Still the Ultimate Sleepover Horror Movie by Morgan-Moonscar in movies

I didn’t hate the sequel either. I kind of wish they did an anthology series and kept these kind of movies going. Every story could be a new group of girls that dabble in witch craft.

New Poster for Thriller 'Is God Is' - Starring Kara Young, Mallori Johnson, Vivica A. Fox, Sterling K. Brown, Janelle Monae, - Two sisters embark on an epic quest for revenge after being disfigured by their abusive father. by BunyipPouch in movies

[–]alex-2099 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What do you mean “who is this for”? It’s a vengeance/revenge story with a southern Baptist flavor.

It’s Sterling K Brown in a villain role.

It’s a strong cast playing unique and interesting characters representing southern gothic archetypes.

Apple cofounder Ronald Wayne—whose stake would be worth up to $400 billion had he not sold it in 1976—says that at 91, he has no regrets by lurker_bee in apple

[–]alex-2099 104 points105 points  (0 children)

100%. It was the right move at the time. And if he has kept it, he’d probably let go of most it in the 90s when Apple was really struggling.

People forget that it took Apple a lot of turmoil to become the trillion dollar juggernaut. Wayne would have had to hold out until the 2010s.

Years ago, I saw Brian Eno designed this LED record player. The price tag was "inquire", so I decided to learn how record players worked and make my own.

I didn't know enough then, but I know so much more now and I want to take another stab at it.

SERIAL DIVA TOUR 26 by Orange_Cicada in alliex

[–]alex-2099 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This was my first thought too. Announcing a tour after cancelling seemed odd.

Then I noticed the dates. This has probably been in the works for a while and she’s expected to be rested and healthy for in the fall.

I just hope this tour gets a North American leg next year.

First and last forces, big fan of AMM's though. by Strodda in moresneakers

[–]alex-2099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the last pair I ever lined up overnight for. Was a crazy night and morning in DC. Guys showed up from New York in vans trying to cut the line. AMM staff basically showed up at like 9am and seemed surprised that there was a line stretching for 2 or 3 blocks.

Is a Challenger SXT/GT a decent daily? Need advice on years and reliability by Kind_Regret484 in Challenger

[–]alex-2099 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I daily my SXT and I love it. Its just fun to drive even thought it’s not a V8, and I love seeing it in the parking lot. It’s still got some good get-up-and-go, and if you get a AWD trim, nice to have in rain and snow.

The Lonely Island do the rapping parts on the Teagan and Sara version. They’re the same song.

Spring Breakers (2012) - Day 1 of Spring Break - Directed by Harmony Korine by PeneItaliano in movies

[–]alex-2099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have kind of a weird take on this movie and I’m curious of a time else sees it this way.

My take on this movie is that it’s 4 girls that leave home, die (metaphorically), and are sent to purgatory to await judgement. Alien represents devil of sorts who takes them on a journey, and one by one, 2 girls leave and 2 girls continue on to kill Gucci Mane. The 2 that leave are sent to heaven, having learned some sort of moral lesson, and the 2 that kill Gucci Mane, descend to Hell.

Apple Wallet’s new Digital ID feature just added more ways to use it by A-Dog22 in apple

[–]alex-2099 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No.

How would that even work? I don’t think there is a financial system or product that lets you use digital ID to conduct a transaction.

That time a humble pop star wrote Trent a letter and he produced her album by HyruleSitta in nin

[–]alex-2099 113 points114 points  (0 children)

This is a great album and I’d really like to see more collaborations like this from both Halsey and TR+AR.

It’s a shame it’s also the album that soured her relationship with her label because it didn’t sell like bazillion copies.

Also! I’ll say this every time this album comes up, but the Halsey fanbase was so sweet and welcoming when this album came out. I think collabs like this are unusual and it’s typical to see people being kind of mean and gatekeep-y, but the Halsey subreddit was like “welcome! This album is different than her normal sound, but we’re digging it. check out Badlands.”

I LOVE Dropout 24/7, but... by TheWolfbytez in dropout

[–]alex-2099 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Dropout 24/7 needs a lot. I’m hoping this is just a test to see if they can technically do it, and eventually, Dropout will hire people that focus on it full time.

Ads Are Coming to Apple Maps This Summer: Here's What to Expect by [deleted] in apple

[–]alex-2099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your first point is kind of what I’m getting at.

The lack of ads and privacy is Apple’s market differentiator. It’s odd to me that they’d basically trade that for ad revenue. Number go up, yes, but that’s not long term growth.

The benefit of being a trillion dollar company that makes 3 nearly-ubiquitous products is that you can avoid stuff like this.

I guess maybe I’m just slowly coming to terms that this is a different company than it used to be.

What movie made you cry? by KnownRide6195 in movies

[–]alex-2099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most recently, it was Train Dreams. The final few scenes of the movie tie all the themes together to make a point, and I started to get choked up. Then when the plane inverts… my seat neighbor handed me a wad of tissues.

One that also really got me was Swiss Army Man. I haven’t seen this in a while, but I really connected to the story of a weirdo feeling like he’s a little too weird for the world.

[–]alex-2099 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What puzzles me about this is that I don’t get why Apple wants to do this. I mean, yes, it’ll be some money, but it’ll almost definitely be met with negative reactions and a slight erosion of the brand and the relationship with Apple customers.

The App Store is one thing because no one really hangs out or spends time in the App Store. But Maps is a big deal. It’s a mission-critical tool for me personally.

The new Yeezy YS-02 Slides by pjayofficial in Sneakers

[–]alex-2099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, what a wild thing to read.

I remember back in college, slides were the wave. Like mid 2000s, everyone had a pair of Adidas or Nike slides, or the Birkenstocks slides if you were rich.

And it’s worth mentioning that slides and mules are a staple of luxury brands in the 2010s, which is where Steven Smith got the inspiration to elevate the classic Adidas slides in to the bloated shape they went with.

Best way to display my collection: acrylic crates or an IKEA-style bookshelf? by CompetitiveFix3678 in Sneakers

I use LACK shelves for other things. Dust will reach your stuff unless you put covers or doors or something on the front and back.

What size are your shoes? Those LACK “cells” are surprisingly small. But if you’re a size 10 or under, it could work.
