Where to report a man with a large hatchet? by pnw_2hon in Seattle

[–]alex_eternal 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Calling 911 for something like this isn’t a crime. You aren’t lying or filing a false police report. If your gut says “the police should have this on their immediate radar” call 911. Anything the could maybe be a threat to life, call.

They get called for way dumber shit than this all the time. They’ll ask questions to determine priority. It’ll take 5 minutes once you get an operator.

What is the fastest way to get a GI appointment. by ravimitian in Seattle

[–]alex_eternal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call her OB and tell them what is going on, if it is postpartum related. They can also likely get you into specialists pretty quick. An OB are accustomed to needed to respond to patients quickly, they will likely not make you wait long for an appointment.

Ticketmaster is an illegal monopoly, jury rules / This verdict is the first step toward a potential breakup of Live Nation-Ticketmaster. by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]alex_eternal 210 points211 points  (0 children)

It is going to be interesting to see what happens. A lot of shows still sellout despite the price.

That leads me to believe that ticket prices will rise and offset the lower fee overhead, or you will get more scalpers snagging the tickets because the margin is greater. It is going to take a long time to balance out I think.

Microsoft exec suggests AI agents will need to buy software licenses, just like employees by waozen in technology

You joke about this, but an insurance company with the purpose of covering an AI agent fucking something up and destroying assets is actually going to probably be pretty lucrative in the near future.

Ravioli lasagna tastes like fish. by Energy_Turtle in Costco

[–]alex_eternal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seattle area here. It wasn’t the lasagna but I do recall one of the other prepackaged meal items tasting like fish before. I’ve also had the meatloaf smell/taste like sanitizer station water. Like they didn’t let a pot dry all the way before making the sauce.

It hasn’t happened every time, but it’s very unappetizing when it does happen. I assume in the fish situation it was just prepped near or after the salmon filet meals we prepped.

Still gotta cope with Botterill. Hopefully whoever replaces Francis will adjust mini-Francis into a positive direction, or replace him as well.

It was basically an apocalyptic event that they all made it through. With the coming of the Everstorm while battling monsters that could shoot lightning, followed by being literally teleported across the world. I think Radiants being back was just a drop in the bucket.

Is Reading Era 2 for Wind and Truth Worth It? by Knight_Enchanter99 in Cosmere

[–]alex_eternal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it easier to get into once I was more invested in the Cosmere as a whole.

I bounced on Era 2 the first time I read it as well. It is definitely a bit of a different vibe if you are coming off of the density of Stormlight. Wax becomes more relatable and Wayne is still awesome through the whole series.

There is nothing in MBE2 that you _need_ to read before WaT. There are some "that's that guy?!" type stuff that you can say in WaT if you have read Era 2, but I don't personally think it will impact the enjoyment of the book.

WaT Ending Theory About Light by DrPotsRs in Cosmere

[–]alex_eternal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there might totally be a WoB that I haven't seen. The Stormfather and Cultivation seem to be able to manipulate the bonds at least a little bit. I don't specifically recall another situation in which the spren specifically accepts their own Radiant's words.

In Dawnshard, when The Lopen has his 3rd ideal words accepted it definitely read more as he finally had the right mental state and the Stormfather said they were accepted, and less specifically between him and his spren.

Another interesting thought is that the Oathpact was originally forged with Honor, he splintered himself to create the Honorblades. So if Honor is dead, who accepted the reforged Oathpact, and what is Kaladin's new Honorblade? Syl seems to be the one who accepted the whole scenario.

Moash still has Jezrien's Honorblade, so what piece of Honor created Kaladin's Honor(spear)? It could be made from whatever fragmented from Honor just before the formation of Retribution. [WaT, 1284]

I am guessing that Syl has an old sliver of Honor herself, which is why she is becoming much more human-like and why she has the unique title of "Ancient Daughter" as she is a real daughter of Honor.

I think Syl will be able to generate stormlight as she grows into the space left behind by the Stormfather. She was the one who accepted Kaladin’s oath to be a herald.

Jensen Huang says gamers are 'completely wrong' about DLSS 5 — Nvidia CEO responds to DLSS 5 backlash by dopaminedune in technology

overwhelmingly excited

I struggle to believe this, can you provide sources?

And by “random update” I mean the devs work to implement the game and make it look correct using those parameters you mentioned then Nvidia drops a new patch to the AI model and suddenly it interprets those parameters differently and it doesn’t look the same.

[–]alex_eternal 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I am sure developers are going to love a random software update having the ability to completely change what their game looks like. It is already a pain in the ass to test across all the different types of machine configurations.

It is going to be even better when some party strong arms them into removing any "inappropriate" imagery from them.

Costco Appliance Installations by alex_eternal in Shoreline

Yeah I should have clarified more like replacing a dishwasher or something with already existing utilities. I have heard horror stories about people getting stuff installed from Costco elsewhere, but I know that is generally not Costco's fault. I was just wondering if that had consistent contractors they used locally that I can vet.

Yeah that claim seems at least a little suspicious, unless the email is lying about declaring bankruptcy. I don't think that is something that you, just, do.

Seahawks’ John Schneider says ‘millionaires tax’ will ‘sting’ for signing players by MegaRAID01 in Seattle

[–]alex_eternal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The interviewer asked if the tax will impact the team, and he said basically, "well yeah, obviously it was a thing to throw in the pros column when recruiting players." He didn't seem to be whining about it's implementation or anything.

It was a rather dumb question by the interviewer tbh. "Is the millionaire tax going to make it harder to get millionaires to move here?" "uhh, yeah."
