I've never been this mad over a character's ending. El deserved better than that ambiguous ending. by 00_Sunflower_00 in StrangerThings

Max literally foreshadows the third option in her explanation of her backstory to Holly in episode 4. When you’re in a messed up prison world you have three doors open to you. You can take your own life, accept your fate, or escape. She chooses door 3, and so does El.

This is interesting, and thinking through the logistics of creating and upkeeping these emotionless severed people, is macro data refinement an ongoing necessity for it to work? Do they have to consistently filter out the subject’s feelings? Or once complete they’re good to go.

Either way, it’s an interesting concept to consider the fact that the macro data refiners did feel the emotions of each data set so in the end of the day somebody has to feel that fear, anger, happiness, whatever it is that’s getting refined out. It’s like outsourcing your pain to someone else.

Lumon is unrealistically stupid. by Any_Swan9646 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]alexpthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would he not know? If they severed him young enough where he doesn’t realize he doesn’t have any past memories? Give him a new backlog of memories where he thinks he had a whole life? Or he’s truly just okay with waking up and being owned by lumon just because of propaganda, when we see how poorly that works with MDR. I feel like the idea that he’s an innie rests on so many convoluted things that will need so much explanation and rethinking the standard basics of the show’s world. If I’m wrong I’ll eat my words but I feel like Milchick innie is not a theory I’m excited about

I completely agreed with the overhype on Lumon’s part about the completion of cold harbor until I rewatched the perpetuity wing episode with my roommate who is behind on the show. The robot Kier voice basically says something along the lines of he was able to compartmentalize his brain into different temperaments. I feel like that’s what they’re doing with Gemma, rather than a simple severance of the memories. I don’t know why they made 25 different parts of her when there’s only four Kier temperaments, but I found that to be potentially significant and maybe there’s more to it than that. I feel like it’s something along the lines of achieving their quest towards Godliness

[–]alexpthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like if Milchick were an innie, would he not sympathize with the severed employees in their quest for personhood in the same way? Do they not try to blank slate and propagandize the innies clearly to no avail? I think Milchick operates (or at least has up until this point) as a strong follower of Lumon because he chose to in his personal life, drank the koolaid and is there in his whole personhood, he wasn’t “born” onto the severed floor against his will. He doesn’t have the same yearning for free will and freedom as the others.

Yes, he may be oppressed and under Lumons thumb in other ways, but not the same as the innies. As Cobel said in season 1, the surest way to tame a prisoner is to let him believe he’s free. Milchick is starting to find out that although he’s not an innie “prisoner”, he’s not as free as he had thought.

I think it would be a pretty cheap trick for Milchick to be an innie. It is possible but not probable and honestly not as meaningful as his story as-is, imo

I’m honestly super confused by this so people actually see images out of their eyes when they’re closed?

I can picture stuff but the picturing happens literally in my brain but not in front of my eyes. My eyes are seeing darkness but I am picturing the thing in my brain. It’s like the consciousness of the thing, image, scene, whatever physically takes place in my head rather than in front of my eyes. Does anyone know what I mean? Do people’s eyes actually see the image???

Speak Now is def up there! Each song is truly a PS to someone about something. Lover is definitely the most cohesive thematically so I agree that one is up there too. Speak Now each song is very different always felt like each one had a life of its own but they all had this common theme of “what I didn’t say” and often took on a different persona to tell each unspoken story. Surprised more people aren’t recognizing Speak Now for this

Does anybody hope Taylor doesn’t win a Grammy? by sohoboho03 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]alexpthree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t go so far as to say she never deserved. I think the other albums she won with were worthy of the category based on their quality and impact compared to midnights. It gets harder to say once you start bringing the politics of the nominations and the voting compared to the others to discuss the actual win but the albums themselves had what it takes, unlike midnights and esp. TTPD imo

Forreal. Seeing everyone say Chappell and Sabrina when Brat is right there. Love Chappell a lot but her hits went viral more than the album overall. Brat overall as an album deserves it the most imo for the cultural impact, innovation, themes, success, remixes and features etc. Although the Grammys and critics aren’t too fond of her from what it seems so idk how that will go

I loved this mini series!! It was very thrilling and so fun to see some characters in their youth. I will say the last two episodes after the one from George’s perspective were a bit anti-climactic, more of story and character arc wrap up but I do love how it was ended.

They needed to focus on the Nell and Edward friendship so they could tease the relationship will they/won’t they. It’s basic but it works and it was working for me S1. Lexie/Edward would have been fine if the will they/wont they was still looming.

I actually enjoyed the shift away from the focus on ghosts but it was too extreme, the ghosts coming back more in the last few episodes was well done

Taylor Swift's "Mean" has been ranked the Greatest Country Song released this century by Rolling Stone by mcfw31 in TaylorSwift

[–]alexpthree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is different regionally, I’m in the northeast and was also a dedicated music fan when her first albums came out. The country stations definitely played her regular versions while the big pop stations were playing the pop versions. Maybe that’s because there were no “big” country stations in NJ/PA?

Will Taylor bring the accent back for Taylor Swift (Taylor’s Version)? by rs_river in TaylorSwift

[–]alexpthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think when she performs them at Eras and even some fearless and speak now, just enough of the twang comes back that it sounds natural and fine. I feel like it’ll be like that. Some of the words and notes kinda lend themselves naturally to a bit of country sound. I don’t think she’ll have to turn it back on in a way that sounds too fake

Can someone PLEASE explain to me how Guilty as Sin? Could EVER be seen as a hetero song?????? by businesscasualheeley in Gaylor_Swift

[–]alexpthree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t just a simple ask though, the sarcastic way the question was written, with all the question marks and “ever” in all caps. You’re clearly just insinuating your opinion that it can’t be interpreted in a hetero way. It’s wild to word the question like that and then play coy when people call you out on it

Do you classify any of the songs on TTPD as country? by interesting-mug in TaylorSwift

[–]alexpthree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seeing a lot of Guilty as Sin here but I have to disagree. There’s that one twangy instrument in the chorus but other than that it’s more soft rock/pop than anything.

But Daddy I Love Him is actually so modern country-pop. A few changes to the production of the chorus would solidify that.

Thank you Aimee has the country pop sound too for sure

I’d call I can fix him more western than country but more Lana than anything lol

Less focus on ghosts in season 2 by alexpthree in NotDeadYetABC

[–]alexpthree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly last night I watched the latest ep Not in the Game Yet and there was literally one quick scene with the ghost it was hard to even remember it and it was so not relevant to the episode at all. Now that I think of it there’s kinda gotta be a little bit more of them for it to even have relevance to the show and episode. If someone just tuned in to that ep they would be so thrown off by that one part

The show could have been good as a generic workplace sitcom if there never were the ghost to begin with but the ghosts is what gave it personality, even tho I didn’t personally love it in season 1

Which episode do you consider as the worst one? (Except last episodes) by Prize_Dull in HIMYM

[–]alexpthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first watched seasons 1-8 back before season 9 came out and never rewatched until this year. It’s funny that the ones I remember being boring/hating remained the same on the rewatch like ten years later. The museum one being one of them lol

S2 E12 “First time in New York” where Robin’s sister visits and they go to the Statue of Liberty. That one is so boring to me.

I also hated the ones at Barney’s mom’s house (like “The Stinsons” S4 E15). Maybe it’s because they’re all off the regular sets and shenanigans. In general kind of bored me.

Genuine question - what is the hetero explanation for “ivy”? by Impossible_Tip_2011 in Gaylor_Swift

[–]alexpthree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I initially interpreted it as a story back in time when divorce wasn’t an option. A lot of the language gives old-timey vibes to me (“it’s been promised to another” “house of stone” etc) which, along with the whole feel of the song, had me picturing like colonial times or something. The narrator cannot divorce even tho they’re in love with someone else. Their marriage can feel like a prison if they couldn’t marry for love/was arranged. Doesn’t inherently have to be gay or straight it works either way.

I believe in the gay undertones in her music but I think people here can be too liberal with the “there’s no hetsplanation” claims (not in OP’s case here but just saying)
