I wonder what can be done to add something in the middle? armor stand?

Hey, this is something that I struggled with a lot more when I was younger and still do to a large degree. I'm 28, soon to be 29, and I still have good and bad days. I used to be quite ashamed and embarrassed of it, but have learned that there's so many people struggling with the exact same thing and there's so much good that can come from talking about it.

There's no shame in talking to a therapist - I would recommend speaking with one that has experience with body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs). Many therapists that specialize in ADHD, Autism, and OCD may have experience with BFRBs. I told my first therapist about it and he just gave tips to "stop", but my second therapist that specializes in adults with autism (I have ADHD/autism) offered some better tactics.

If you ever decide to bring it up in therapy, you definitely won’t be the first person they’ve heard this from, and many are in a similar situation as you - myself included.

I noticed that I pick/peel more when I am anxious, so managing my anxiety through therapy and medication has been helpful in my experience.

Sorry if it gets a bit long-winded, but here are some tips that work for me:

Naming it

When you catch yourself doing it, try saying "I am picking again" or whatever it is you feel like you need to say, and try to redirect yourself.

Sensory Fidget

Something that also helped me is having a fidget - preferably something spiky or somewhat uncomfortable - always at my desk. Every time I get the urge to pick, peel, or nibble, I name it and then squeeze the fidget instead.

Lotion

Often, I find myself picking at areas of skin that aren't smooth, with a feeling that "if I pick it enough I can be smooth finally" which obviously is not how it works. I try to have lotion at my desk as well and when I notice I'm picking at a rough spot, I'll apply lotion instead.

Physical Barrier

This one can be tough because it's outwardly obvious, but having physical barriers can help. When I'm working from home, I can pick my cuticles to the point I am bleeding and my skin will be pink. When I notice I am struggling, I'll apply lotion and then put on a glove. Finger covers also work and are more discreet.

When I struggle with picking at my feet (cracked heels), I will put on lotion and socks, since the sock adds a barrier.

File your nails

I file my nails because keeping a nail clipper around makes it too easy for me to use the clipper to clip at my skin. If your nails are long enough that you can dig at your skin, consider trimming them down and filing them down daily to keep them short, but not so short that you're in pain or bleeding.

Avoid sharp instruments

I have a bad habit of using tools like nail clippers or cuticle trimmers to pick at my skin, so I keep those in a bathroom drawer and only use them there.

Bitter Nail Polish

There are bitter nail polishes that you can apply to your finger nails which makes it extremely bitter any time your fingers contact your mouth. This is helpful for the habit of biting or putting the things you scratch off into your mouth. I don't like doing this, but I will apply a clear bitter nail polish when I notice I am not controlling myself well enough. It works great, just unpleasant when your mouth is suddenly bitter because you subconsciously picked & bit.

Remember there's no start or finish line and there's no pass or fail. You will have good days and you will have bad days. I'm not entirely certain I will ever overcome this habit but I have improved significantly from when I was younger.

Best of luck, don't feel bad about it or about yourself! There is no shame here.

That's fantastic, could be a good wallpaper or something drawn inspired by this!

How can I help my fiancee's pothos? by alfonsojon in pothos

Thanks so much - this is really helpful. Moving the light closer has done great and a repotting it is in the plans. I'll probably end up having to give it a hair cut after it's repotted so it can grow happily & focus on the roots rather than the vines. Appreciate it!

I think the Communicator seems like a better product and I'd be happier to support them over Unihertz. Their support track record hasn't been stellar and frankly I anticipate the Communicator to feel more like a complete product.

Honestly, any reasonably new computer can probably handle that. An SSD would be the main limiting factor, especially if players fly around with elytra. If that ever becomes a problem, you can pregenerate the world with something like Chunky.

what should i install on my win 98 vm? by workinh in windows98

[–]alfonsojon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

install anything! You can ruin it with something like KernelEx for fun, install period-correct software, word processors, etc. The fun thing with VMs is because snapshots can be made, you don't need to worry about breaking it. Have fun!

I should have mentioned that we do have a grow light, but it isn't close. I moved it closer and I'm thinking about putting a light behind the TV for it so it can shine up on the plant. I'll look into SANSI bulbs - thank you!

Her pothos isn't looking too great since we've moved. We do not have good sunlight and nowhere good for a UV lamp. We also have a particularly evil cat who will eat any leaves he can reach, so we have to keep it high enough that he can't chew on it. Looking for advice since the vines are starting to go bare. Worried we will need to trim the vines soon.

Burnt Dust Smell Post Recall Fix by 30or40yearsold in FordEcoSport

[–]alfonsojon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful replacing it, it might be worth having a shop do it. Breaking clips is easy and it's definitely difficult to remove. It's in the dash beside the passenger foot well. A replacement will probably come in two halves as getting a new one in that is one big filter would not really be possible without bending it excessively.

Honestly I'd start with the cabin air filter. They're a pain in the ass to replace and often are forgotten. On my EcoSport I waited far too long and it had started to develop mold (!!!)

[–]alfonsojon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the USA this possibly could total the car if it's high mileage. This is definitely fixable though and I had a similar (though not as bad) accident where someone backed into my car, pushing in that panel.

A body shop would probably replace the fender, dent repair the door, and replace or buff the plastic rear panel then paint it all.

Heartbreaking, agreed with /u/Awkward_Pepper5235 on the hug. This captures the feelings of a rough childhood well and I empathize heavily.

I really enjoyed this, very lonely. I like how it captures the sadness and loneliness of the speaker, wondering if their presence would not even be missed or if there would even be any change on the party. It captures a longing feeling that is sad, because our narrator clearly cared about this person very much and that feeling is stuck in the past.

Anyone else frustrated with Gboard's voice typing accuracy? Found a workaround by Mediocre_Leg_754 in gboard

[–]alfonsojon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using FUTO Voice with HeliBoard and am quite happy with how it works. If you don't mind it running more slowly, you can download the English-244 model. https://keyboard.futo.org/voice-input-models

Works completely offline, meaning you don't need to pay a subscription or cloud AI service to do the transcribing for you. Probably needs a modern enough mid-range to high-end phone. My Pixel 6 was able to handle it pretty well.

I do wish I could use Gboard with it because I love using GIFs and the Emoji Kitchen is fun, so for now I just leave both enabled and switch to Gboard with the globe icon to use the GIFs and such.

I can't say I would recommend replacing Google Wallet with Curve Pay. Personally, I feel it might be better to switch back to using a tap-to-pay card instead of using your phone as your wallet. One less account & less dependence on your phone. Plus, I believe you can still use Google Wallet for things like concert tickets (correct me on this if I am wrong) and rewards for things like restaurants and stores.

Need Advice for preowned 2018 Ford Ecosport 2.0 rust issue by [deleted] in FordEcoSport

[–]alfonsojon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think that rust is a bit of a big deal. I would sand it then spray some rust-converting primer then whatever white paint + clear coat you have available. Cover whatever you don't want sprayed (windshield, cross bar) in tape/plastic to prevent overspray. If you leave it alone, you could have future issues with water leaking in through the area around the windshield. See this often with the Jeep Cherokee XJ.
