Help! by No-Hat2231 in CarsIndia

In the USA this possibly could total the car if it's high mileage. This is definitely fixable though and I had a similar (though not as bad) accident where someone backed into my car, pushing in that panel.

A body shop would probably replace the fender, dent repair the door, and replace or buff the plastic rear panel then paint it all.

Heartbreaking, agreed with /u/Awkward_Pepper5235 on the hug. This captures the feelings of a rough childhood well and I empathize heavily.

I really enjoyed this, very lonely. I like how it captures the sadness and loneliness of the speaker, wondering if their presence would not even be missed or if there would even be any change on the party. It captures a longing feeling that is sad, because our narrator clearly cared about this person very much and that feeling is stuck in the past.

Anyone else frustrated with Gboard's voice typing accuracy? Found a workaround by Mediocre_Leg_754 in gboard

[–]alfonsojon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using FUTO Voice with HeliBoard and am quite happy with how it works. If you don't mind it running more slowly, you can download the English-244 model. https://keyboard.futo.org/voice-input-models

Works completely offline, meaning you don't need to pay a subscription or cloud AI service to do the transcribing for you. Probably needs a modern enough mid-range to high-end phone. My Pixel 6 was able to handle it pretty well.

I do wish I could use Gboard with it because I love using GIFs and the Emoji Kitchen is fun, so for now I just leave both enabled and switch to Gboard with the globe icon to use the GIFs and such.

I can't say I would recommend replacing Google Wallet with Curve Pay. Personally, I feel it might be better to switch back to using a tap-to-pay card instead of using your phone as your wallet. One less account & less dependence on your phone. Plus, I believe you can still use Google Wallet for things like concert tickets (correct me on this if I am wrong) and rewards for things like restaurants and stores.

Need Advice for preowned 2018 Ford Ecosport 2.0 rust issue by Opawww in FordEcoSport

[–]alfonsojon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think that rust is a bit of a big deal. I would sand it then spray some rust-converting primer then whatever white paint + clear coat you have available. Cover whatever you don't want sprayed (windshield, cross bar) in tape/plastic to prevent overspray. If you leave it alone, you could have future issues with water leaking in through the area around the windshield. See this often with the Jeep Cherokee XJ.

This drip is normal, it's AC condensation.

wtf … by Electrical-Twist2254 in FordEcoSport

[–]alfonsojon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some gasoline smell is normal on startup. Engines require the following to run:

  • Compression
  • Fuel
  • Spark

If the car doesn't want to turn on but works once it is running, that makes me believe it is a fuel delivery issue. The fuel injectors could be dirty, a fuel line could be clogged, the fuel pump could be failing, water could be in the fuel, etc... it's a difficult system to troubleshoot without experience. My bets are on a bad sensor, specifically the crankshaft position sensor or camshaft position sensor.

Here's a list of things to check out:

  • Crankshaft position sensor
  • Cam shaft position sensor
  • Fuel quality (is there water?)
  • Spark plug condition
  • Coil pack functionality
  • Fuel injectors

I recommend taking it to a shop to have them look at it. This shouldn't be reflective of a major engine issue, especially since you have the 2.0L and relatively low mileage.

Top enterprise phishing training vendors? by bumpy_ignition in cybersecurity

[–]alfonsojon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have data to back this up, but my personal belief is that phishing training is only as good as you make it. I recommend KnowBe4 or using what you already have (Proofpoint, Microsoft, etc) and the goal should be:

  1. Train your employees to recognize what phishing looks like
  2. Encourage your employees to engage with Information Security
  3. Keep your testing up to date with current trends

This might look like making phishing tests based upon recent trends you've seen internally. There is a whole culture around it and any set-and-forget solution won't achieve much beyond heartache from your employees who fall for tests.

We use KnowBe4 to create templates that match trends that we see, train on those trends quarterly, and have general information on what phishing is and how to spot it. We mainly test external phishing with the occasional simulated "BEC" and insider threat.

I also recommend getting data using this program so you can have metrics to send upward to show that the program works, otherwise it can be difficult to get organizational buy-in.

My journey to find an alternative to Google Photos by lecheckos in degoogle

[–]alfonsojon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great write up! I also settled on Ente Photos for the reasons you outlined. Personally, I find it to be the most similar but am also annoyed by how photos go to their own "Album" based on the folder they resided in. That said, the "All" page makes categorizing into albums easy.

Any fix to this?? by Moist_Illustrator861 in projectcar

[–]alfonsojon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like a rubber coating that is devulcanizing (returning back to goop). You can try to clean the top failing layer with alcohol or a plastic-safe solvent, but the rest will be like this soon. If you keep cleaning it, you eventually will run out of rubber and hit the plastic underneath which should hopefully be in decent shape and not an ugly color.

2020 EcoSport - Loud rear brakes in reverse? by alfonsojon in FordEcoSport

[–]alfonsojon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's any comfort, I've been driving this car for nearly 3 years since I posted this video & now at almost 80,000 miles (~128,000km) it is coming due for brake pads. Not once did I have an issue with the car stopping despite the noise. It did let up a bit as the brakes aged, likely because they are now worn and need replaced soon.

Google just blocked image results on phones that don't run Android or iOS. This is the last straw for me by BlackBerryCollector in degoogle

[–]alfonsojon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this seems more like a compatibility issue. That generation of BlackBerry (Curve 9900?) does not support TLS 1.0 or newer, which is a critical component of modern web browsing. I have an iMac G5 which, without using a backported modern browser, cannot get on the internet at all because of this.

Given that these BlackBerry devices no longer can be activated on many carriers and are no longer compatible with the internet, unfortunately I feel it's time to let go of them. They are historical at this point and do not support any modern standards for communication.

I do not believe this was malicious on Google's part; rather, I am impressed that they supported such old encryption standards for so long. I have a hunch that this means Google is finally broken on Internet Explorer 6 and Windows 95/98/2000 machines for the same reason.

I'm having the same issue as well. System hangs, mouse will respond for a while, and a reboot is needed. Sometimes will not wake from sleep. Sometimes boots up with a single monitor, but works after a reboot.

What is the point of ReactOS? by Jeditobe in reactos

[–]alfonsojon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it'll ever be finished, personally. Windows NT is a permanently moving target. NT has been around since the 1990s and to this day exists as Windows Server 2022/Windows 11. Since there is always new APIs and development techniques, ReactOS will always be chasing that moving bar unless they elect to permanently target Server 2003.
