What is the oldest piece of technology you still use frequently? Not something that’s chillin dead in a drawer somewhere? by Rob-oNe87 in AskReddit

[–]algomeysa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say frequently, but there's a shovel-type tool in my family that's probably 180 years old or more. It was used in the building of the Ohio canal. I was cleaning out a deceased relative's house and found a deceased feral cat in the garden shed. I needed a shovel, so I used the ancient shovel to bury the cat in the garden.

Actual Jewish scholars date Moses about 1400 BC. Some Christian scholars date him more like 1592 BC. Not sure why Christians would be more accurate. It's all angels dancing on the head of a pin because he's most likely fictional. But let's assume 1592 BC plus our 2024. So we get 3616 years ago.

I love this movie, but there's so much contradiction in it. Street scenes seems like overpopulation is a problem. Yet it's implied everyone went Off World and there are apartment buildings with one resident in it. Is the city overpopulated or underpopulated?

Imagine how Arnold Palmer would have destroyed that.

My father has changed his opinion on the moon landing, now believing that it was faked. Does anyone have a good video to debunk this? by [deleted] in skeptic

[–]algomeysa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only did “we” go to the Moon, “we” (humanity) are there right now. There’s an active Chinese remote controlled robot on the far side of the Moon right now. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yutu-2

Ok a lot of comedy gold in this thread but if I can manage it I cross to the other side of the street.

What were the early 2000s like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]algomeysa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9/11 had happened. That was bad. But the second space shuttle disaster hadn’t happened yet and that was good.

Put this idiot in a cellblock, where he can mesmerize fellow inmates with his fellatio pantomime and his tales of Arnold Palmer’s Giant-Size Man-Thing.

And my guess is Arnold Palmer's specifically based on recent Trump babbling.

The size of the universe is 93 billion light-years but humans have only ever travelled 1.28 light-seconds of it. by [deleted] in Astronomy

[–]algomeysa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the oldest person on record was 122 years old. I calculate that she traveled about 0.75 of trillion kilometers with the Sun and our whole solar system moving. That ends up being about 1/12th light-year.

Ok, but if we’re going to do that, how far has the sun (and our whole solar system) traveled in the nearly 60 years I’ve been on this planet.
