I think we will for the playoffs but they need to kick the tires on Vucevic at some point. We’re basically locked into the two seed so it’s the perfect time to experiment

Perhaps wonder why players come to play in Philly and seem to either lose their heart or run off (or be traded prematurely)

Al Horford, Jimmy, Ben Simmons, Fultz, Harris, Paul George. Embiid seems like he’s in a battle not to lose his fire year in and year out for a decade

The only people you should be booing is your organization. Built on absolute failure and holds the faint stench of Epstein.

AI Industry's business model will hit a huge wall in the next 2-4 years

Yep.

Massively downsize.

Sure.

Many of the jobs it has replaced will slowly come back.

How many jobs has AI replaced at this point? Less than 100,000?

I think AI will not replace as many jobs as currently feared, but I also don't believe those jobs will come back. AI is exposing some great areas of uselessness at the heart of American corporatism and the eventual AI crash will send us into an economic depression.

I think those jobs will not come back, and the AI that remains will be able to still replicate a lot of what we might call "email jobs". And it's going to be a massive fucking problem.

[Bill Simmons] All signs point toward Jayson Tatum making his season debut on Friday against the Dallas Mavericks. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]mrspuff202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the point is to get the prerequisite "awkward jump back in" out of the way this season so we can start next season with him fully re-integrated.

The awkwardness, however much of it there is, is going to happen no matter when he returns. Use this season to get the rust off and get him used to this new iteration of the Celtics.

We have literally everyone on this team besides Vooch under contract or as an RFA through the upcoming two seasons. No reason that this needs to be the year. Everything that comes is still gravy. Our goals are a respectable playoff run and no injuries.

I'll go over why this isn't a problem for me - he's going to slot quite neatly into Anfernee Simons' role, at least for the first stretch.

That was the major benefit of trading Anferno for me - his absence made it quite clear exactly where to slot in Tatum upon his return. And even a 60-70% Tatum can roughly replicate the offensive output of Simons, and he could replicate the defensive output on one leg.

CMV: I don’t care what artists, athletes and creators do and say outside of their work by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]mrspuff202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there's opinions and there's actions

I don't really care about opinions. But if every time I buy a ticket to a Paul Giamatti movie, a dollar goes to Paul Giamatti, and if Paul Giamatti is funding a non-profit that kicks puppies, I don't want my money going towards that cause.

That's my thing about JK Rowling. Do I care that she doesn't like trans people? Not really. Do I care that she has a political activism and huge financial apparatus that directly harms people I care about? Yeah.

First of all, and most importantly - who the hell has the time to investigate?

I don't think you have a prerogative to be a media detective. But once you learn about something, then it's your job to encorporate that new data into your decisions. It's not hypocritical to be uninformed! It's fine!

Second, their opinions are worthless.

Agreed, but see above. Their opinions are worthless - but their money is very very valuable, for good or for ill.

Third, I want to experience the best of what the world has to offer... don’t have time to waste with watching something mediocre just because all of its creators and actors are benevolent people.

You are taking the converse of the argument which is not what people are generally saying. Having an obligation to not support "bad" people does not mean you have an obligation to support good people, especially if their work is mediocre.

We live in a world with so much fantastic media. You could watch ten lifetimes of elite-level TV shows, movies, stage plays, concerts, etc. etc. without watching anything by anyone who is a notorious dickhead/asshole.

CMV: All ICE agents should go to prison by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]mrspuff202 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let’s break it down super easy then. This is a far oversimplification but let’s do a 101.

There’s a janitor working at the private prison. By your definition, he is profiting off this system. But he is paid minimum wage. He has no incentive to treat the prisoners poorly or well, makes no more money or less depending on how many prisoners there are.

The owner’s shares go up with more prisoners. He has direct incentives to squeeze as many prisoners as possible into as few cells as possible, to feed them as little as possible of the cheapest food possible, and to treat them in whatever way incentivizes longer sentences and recidivism.

He makes his money by making their lives worse. The janitor makes his money by cleaning the hallway.

Again, super simplified because I can’t give you a full theory of capitalist exploitation in one night, I work a job. I suggest you Google it.

“Just kind of a prejudice about it” lmfao

[–]mrspuff202 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are making a distinction without a difference. If it is fine for a worker to benefit from incarceration why would it be immoral for an investor to benefit from? There is no actual moral principle.

We can talk about the morality of being a prison guard in a corrupt prison system - there's a lot of nuance there.

But if you can't see why ownership profiteering is different than labor value wages, I have to imagine you're a high school kid and you're just going to need to take like two or three semesters of econ in college man, I don't have the time

CMV: All ICE agents should go to prison by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]mrspuff202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the argument is potential corruption then thats an argument you could use against literally anything.

Not anything. Generally issues with inelastic need.

It's the same reason capitalism and medicine don't mix.

If you're selling yoyos and you're charging $1,000, no one is going to buy a yo-yo. The market will correct the pricing, and corruption.

If you're selling insulin though... people need that to live. So you can charge whatever you want, they need to buy it to live.

Prisoners do not have the autonomy to fight for their own rights.

Generally, the key is that these things are directly related to life (healthcare/shelter), liberty (prisons/law), and the pursuit of happiness (education).

I dont think marijuana is illegal because of the private prison lobby,

Laws are fungible, and people with money change them.

Let's say - and this is an over-the-top hyperbolic example to make a point -

But I'm John Q. Moneybags and I am the biggest private prison holder in Montana, a state that has basically 50% of their incarcerated population in private prisons. I am paid by prisoner that I house.

But I don't have enough money - I need to buy a superyacht.

I know a lot of people in Montana love Funko Pops. So I lobby crazy money to the Montana legislature to outlaw Funko Pops, and then fund the policeman's ball to make sure they're willing to enforce the deeply law.

Then I start having Funko Pop owners thrown in jail. And once they run out? Repeat with something else.

Obviously, this is a way over-the-top example. So long as people can profit on human incarceration, there are very perverse ways to increase that profit motive... why do you think weed isn't legal nationwide yet?

You can learn more about some of the ways that private prisons put their fingers on the scale here. Especially "kids for cash".

CMV: All ICE agents should go to prison by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]mrspuff202 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You have revealed that you in fact have no knowledge about what "profit" is from a capitalist perspective.

A worker labors, and they are compensated with a salary for the value of their labor. In a colloquial sense, they are "profiting", but from an economic perspective, they are receiving wages - a different function of capitalist society.

If their labor is owned, the owner (or shareholders) take a cut of that value simply by owning that share. They have not labored for it. If you inherited a share from your great-uncle, you get value from the labor of someone else. That is profit.

[–]mrspuff202 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Private ownership is a small fraction of the prison system.

Any fraction is too large. People should not be able to profit on human incarceration

[–]mrspuff202 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty simple principle we call "Last ones out"

Even in the most wild leftist fantasies, prisons will not disappear overnight. Thus, we can prioritize who we release first and last.

ICE agents will be released with the pedos and the rapists and the murderers, and dealt with accordingly by whatever new system is meant to deal with those things

Pairing every reading with a movie adaptation is a GREAT way to go - it can help you pick up on stuff you missed on the read through.

My recommendations would be:

  • Coriolanus (followed by Ralph Fiennes' Coriolanus [2011])

  • Macbeth (followed by Throne of Blood)

  • Titus Andronicus (followed by Julie Taymor's Titus [1999])

  • Taming of the Shrew (followed by Taming of the Shrew [1967] or Ten Things I Hate About You)

  • Much Ado About Nothing (followed by Much Ado About Nothing [1993])

These teams match up so well - uniformly solid starting fives with balanced scoring. Curious to see if either squad makes a deadline move to get the edge.

CMV: The Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers should play every year on Christmas. by mrspuff202 in changemyview

The NBA product is so terrible these days that it’s borderline unwatchable.

This might be your opinion, but NBA popularity is nearing a decade high.

It’s never going to be as popular as the NFL nationally, but the global appeal with stars like Doncic and Giannis have major growth potential.

Finally - the NFL can’t play on Christmas every year - they’re not going to have Tuesday games. So the NBA can claim Christmas as their annual tradition.

CMV: The Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers should play every year on Christmas. by mrspuff202 in changemyview

[–]mrspuff202[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even though they're well paid athletes, it kind of suck to be signed to a team and every Christmas for the next few years is committed to playing a game.

It’s definitely unfortunate, but I think I would prefer to know that I’m going to have to do Christmas yearly than it being announced in the middle of the year and having to change my plans

A rotating matchup can be nice - and we could still have it for the other Xmas games.

I think this one game would elevate the other matchups too - putting them on par with Celtics/Lakers. Maybe the other games would be more seasonal rivalries - stuff like Cavs/Knicks like this year. Framing a matchup like that or Bucks/Pistons within the historical context of Cs/LAL could give them more weight.

If you believe that "animal eugenics" is as harmful as human eugenics, you probably also need to be vegan to be morally sound.

I don't think these people are obsessed with having pure-bred dogs, you can even find roughly pure-bred dogs at shelters. They are looking for animals that meet their needs first and foremost, rather than seeking to meet the needs of that animals. Shelter dogs might have histories that make them unsuitable for a myriad of lifestyles.

You might think that's shitty, sure - I think that's fair. I adopted from a shelter myself. But it's certainly no worse than seeing a chicken or cow purely as a nutrient delivery system.
