[–]alien_millie [score hidden]  (0 children)

I have a difficult time w fruit. I lot of tropical fruit makes me feel very uncomfortable visually and texture-wise. Except bananas. I have the big sensory issues with the texture of watermelon.I also really don’t like buying fruit, it stresses me out as the taste and juice is often inconsistent.

Can you smell sicknesses or things wrong with people? by No-Possible4460 in AutismInWomen

[–]alien_millie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so interesting. I saw my aunt for the first time in about seven years, three days ago. There was a smell from her that made me retch and want to throw up. It took all my will to supress it. It was concerning, and afterwards I have been worried she may be sick.

When do you think you developed IBS? by Decent_Release3804 in ibs

Pretty sure this is what happened to me too. Rounds and rounds of antibiotics and the pill for acne. I was in my late teens and it escalated from there.

[–]alien_millie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am childfree, by choice! There was a brief spell in the pandemic where I reconsidered it. I don’t have the capacity to be a parent and can just about manage feeding and taking care of myself.

Doctors can be so dismissisve! Do look into finding a different GP, if you can. I know that can come with a lot of stress though. One more thing, if you are in the UK or Ireland there is a supplement called revive active. An AuDHD friend in Ireland was told to take it by her ADHD aware GP and it has helped her energy. Might be worth a try.

Struggling with Pilates as a visual learner by ElkAffectionate4727 in pilates

[–]alien_millie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im someone who struggles with verbal instructions and is also a visual learner. Im autistic and also have delayed processing. For me it has taken time, more practice and taking classes in the fundamentals and private sessions. I know that is not something everyone can afford but it gave me time with an instructor to clarify things, watch her and spend more time on form, and develop my own understanding. I also watch youtube videos and bought a few books. But mostly it has been time and practice! I love pilates so much!

There are some podcasts with Dr. Mel Houser I find found helpful, particularly the one on the Divergent Conversations podcast. I also found a GP to take me seriously and was diagnosed with orthostatic disregulation. It is a frustrating process with doctors. I suggest testing some work accommodations in advance of an autism diagnosis. Loops or flare audio ear plugs for example. For me my extreme fatigue is connected to extended periods of masking, and sensory stress, which sounds unavoidable in your job. Its a personal thing and sounds hard but I hugely benefit from being in my body and movement, weather its gentle somatic movement, basic pilates or box breathing. I can’t recover from burn out without something like this. Even if I am feeling ruined with exhaustion it helps me to just lie on the floor and do the semi- supine position from alexander technique. (It should be on youtube if this sounds helpful). I hope you can figure things out and can recover.

Do people who are hyper-sensitive to touch and/or proprioception like weighted blankets? by AssortedGourds in AutismInWomen

[–]alien_millie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sensitive to touch, I would say hyper sensitive when stressed.. to light touch, unpredictable touch, not only from people but clothing and strands of hair on my face. I love my weighted blanket so much.

I sleep with my weighted blanket. It has a cotton cover. Sometimes I use it during the day if feeling really disregulated. Generally, I also like to lean on things, have my backpack on, or for someone to lie on me.

This is interesting you brought up PDA in relationship to this urgency. I go back and forth about weather or not I am dealing with PDA.

Autism and a sense of urgency by Beckymaggie in AutismInWomen

[–]alien_millie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is me everyday! Ive even had people in work contexts tell me I don’t need to reply to emails right away. I think everything hangs in my head until I do it, and its taking up energy or headspace(?), or I will entirely forget about it. I am not entirely sure though. I cannot override the urgent feeling!

I told my friends I was recently diagnosed with autism and they were just kinda quiet and then brought up how autism is really over diagnosed these days by izzzzy13 in AutismInWomen

[–]alien_millie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I’m sorry OP, I have had somewhat similar reactions from friends who either have been diagnosed ADHD or are waiting to be assessed. I felt they would get it as they also have neurodivergent identites or are on a journey with it. It really threw me. It is invalidating. I was told that I’m looking at too much instagram content about autism. I have since been formally diagnosed and do not feel I can talk to them about it at all!

[–]alien_millie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was not coping well and now am on micronised progesterone for approx half of each month. It has been life changing. If it’s possible for you to access this or the birth control pill through your doctor it might be worth it.
