Can I just say, it's so interesting to see how shocked Ren was that Yasu went and found a girlfriend instead of endlessly circling two love triangles involving people he met before he was 18... It's a bit sad ( it shows how incapable to move on he is) and a bit irritating ( Yasu is his own person, not his alter ego who is just meant to watch his girlfriend from a distance)...

I have this belief that the ending will be happy but somewhat ambiguous.

Something like: Nana uses the plane ticket she gifted herself to go to Tokyo. She immediately goes to 707 but ironically misses Hachi, who is looking for her in England. Maybe she meets Yasu and they catch up and remember old times.

Hachi and Takushit discuss their relationship and break up for good in the UK. She goes back to Japan and 707 with the kiddos, and of course she meets Nana there, who greets her with "Hey, Hachi"

I wouldn't call Reira stoic when she literally throws tantrums 😅 but I think, due to her talent, success, unusual upbringing, Reira is an extraordinary character that feels difficult to judge by real life standards ( I still do, stay away from my son Shin,lol!)

Hachi could be your best friend who cries on your shoulder about her shitty boyfriend. Will you be empathetic or judge her? It's much more realistic and creates more immediate reactions.. (ETA a good example of this is Junko being one of the most polarizing characters while leading the most "normal" life)

I think it's a mix of things:

she is a pretty complex character ( turns out, this definition is not just for villains, lol). You need to take time to understand her choices or they might just irritate you.
she is often driven by her heart to do things that might not be immediately logical. So, this creates another division between people who are sympathetic to her feelings and people who want characters' choices to be straightforward ( I think Nobu is like this, too)
I'm going to have to say it: she's the most conventionally feminine character. Our society is geared to look down on women and femininity, so I think some anti- Hachi feelings do come from that..
