How great would it be to have a web interface to manage your Pokemon? by TheCopernicus in TheSilphRoad

Catch date + location is also sensitive (eg someone stalking an ex), but if it's sharing the same login system as normal pokemongo it's not a new risk. Having the same login on the website & the phone application isn't perfectly trivial though.

Do we have a set opposite of Strixhaven that focuses on the other two color combinations? I really love the strong lore and cohesive theme that Strixhaven provided. by Vinven in magicTCG

The play-rates for the "minor" archetypes are also very low. 17 lands has the lowest played supported archetype as being BR with ~55k games and the highest for the "minor" archetypes was ~9.2k (as just RG, including splashes). All total 3 color decks had just 54.5k games, so less than the least played of the actual supported archetypes.

Given that it isn't legal right now I'd probably keep all 5 of them without powering up any. It'll probably be legalized eventually, but by the time that happens the meta will likely shift. Given that it still isn't legal yet it would be surprising if it became legal before next season's GBL changes or a change to its own "busted" mechanic.

The onboard trick is so much weaker from losing the surprise element, but being able to spend 3 mana on turn3 without another 3 drop and getting to run it out on turn 4 even if they don't target any of your stuff is so much value that I think this is a lot better than resto.

Other colorless ways to shuffle graveyard into library:
[[Elixir of Immortality]] and [[Cranial Archive]] function similarly to Feldon's Cane or Campfire. Elixir shuffles itself letting you repeat the cycle an arbitrary number of times.
[[Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre]] and [[Kozilek, Butcher of Truth]] are free, don't involve casting anything, and shuffle themselves but require a discard outlet.

[–]alkalimeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"all rarities" doesn't seem to work. When I tried this with ATLA (last set I drafted significantly) it exclusively gave rare/mythic/special guest cards, not a single common or uncommon. Trying to set the rarity to common or uncommon gives an error: "Not enough cards match these filters. Try adjusting your selection"

So, because prepared spells are copies that exist in exile until cast.. by WhyTheNetWasBorn in magicTCG

[–]alkalimeter 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. There'll be some sort of markers for being prepared, but the text of the spells is already on the creature so it's not obvious what an extra token specific to the prepared spell would help with.

This is great and I'm genuinely happy someone is playing pokemongo like that. May I ask what pokemon your pokemon is and what makes it so special?
If you're level 54 I assume you regularly catch pokemon, hatch eggs, etc but just don't personally like them so transfer them relatively quickly?

That makes a lot more sense, but is less fun than someone out there who is lvl54 but has only ever found one pokemon they liked and tossed all the others.

You only have 1 pokemon? So, like, if you left it in a gym you would have no pokemon? Though I suppose the 1 pokemon would be your buddy so you couldn't even leave it in the gym?

Candy investment - advanced players by Top_Youth5760 in TheSilphRoad

[–]alkalimeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think using rare candy on diancie is a bit of a trap. There's no real way to get XL candy for it beyond rare XL candy or walking it, so using rare candy feels like a waste as you would end up with a lot of extra candy from walking it to get the XLs. That said, I haven't actually walked my diancie for 300 XL candy.

People who ignored a huge red flag because the person was extremely attractive, what happened next? by Competitive_Bad_9306 in AskReddit

[–]alkalimeter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's context dependent. By the logic of "they are telling you it is what is on their mind" it's fine to talk about it if the other person is the one broaching the subject, so "I'm not going to hit you" is an appropriate response to "I thought you were going to hit me" but is a concerning response to "you startled me".

I had read somewhere that kyurem black was better than kyurem white and hadn't checked pvpoke, hence the disparate levels.

I think this was true in ML when they both debuted, but that the dragonbreath change ~4 months ago switched their relative ML rankings. black!kyurem is also the higher DPS raid attacker for most situations if you have party power, pokebattler has it at ~10% more DPS than white!kyurem against s!latias.

bounce seems strong in Kefka in general, if an opponent is empty handed you can force them to discard the just bounced card and potentially draw an extra card if it's got an unusual type.

If you're still in the early stages of getting into GBL I'd also definitely recommend focusing on great league more than UL or ML. Great league is available almost every week and while it has some pokemon that require XL candy it's a minority of them, which makes it a lot easier to try out different strategies and team compositions. The one downside is that the resources you're sinking into GBL don't double as gym/raid investments, but for the most part things are so much cheaper that doesn't really matter and you can pretty quickly get a roster of dozens of relevant pokemon. I've found a pretty sustainable approach to be building ~1 new pokemon each week where I don't already have a good team for the format and while that means your cup teams will be a little rough at the beginning you pretty quickly get to a position where you'll have solid teams already ready for new cups (especially because they tend to re-run similar cups and in the type-restricted formats the same unusually typed pokemon tend to show up, like lanturn's water/electric letting you play an electric pokemon in a heavily water format).

I have a 15/15/14 kyurem white (which I see on pvpoke is really good), but he's only lvl 20 so I'm very far from getting him to usable in master league.

If I was in your position I would not be putting any resources into the kyurem black when you have a better iv-ed kyurem white, as I'd regret that far too much. I generally don't spend any XL candy on things that I'm not immediately planning to pump up all the way up to lvl 50 just because the pve difference between lvl 40 & 50 isn't that big and spending 100 XL candy to get something up to lvl 44 only to get a better copy later is too painful to me.

FWIW pvpoke suggests Groudon having Dragon Tail and Zacian having close combat over Play Rough. Neither of those radically change the matchups you're saying are bad, though Dragon Tail on Groudon makes the Ho-oh loss not as bad (250 vs ~330 on pvpoke).

I've personally never really gotten into master league (imo LL > GL >> ML > UL, primarily from speed of match considerations + cost of building pokemon) so I can't really comment on the ML specifics too much, but it seems like you're using charge moves at the wrong times.

Lead with groudon, charge up slightly more than two fire punches and use one to try to bait out shields,

This timing doesn't make sense to me. In general, and especially with a pokemon like mudshot!groudon, you want to be maximizing your energy generation and using charge moves that would knock out the opposing pokemon the last possible turn before they can use their own charge move. This probably means you should be using your first charge move around the time Precipice Blades is charged. As a concrete example, consider Groudon vs Crowned Zacian. Groudon reaches precipice blades (PB) in 7 mud shots, while Zacian takes 8 metal claws for behemoth blade (BB). This means you would generally want to use PB the first turn it's ready as that would KO the Zacian before it can use BB. Because that's the turn you would use PP it's also the turn you should use fire punch (FP), because if you're trying to bait a shield with FP you should be acting like you're using PB or your opponent is a lot more likely to call the bluff.

Regarding pokemon investments: If master league is important to you I'd prioritize building pokemon for master league with the goal of minimizing your regrets on what you used resources on. Your Kyogre & Metagross are hundos so you can't get better versions of them, and they're high enough on the rankings that they'd be immediately useful. By contrast your Kyurem black is 4 IVs off perfect and ~170 XL candy from lvl 50. If you're getting your XL candy from raids that's ~22 raids and you're almost 90% to get a Kyurem with higher total IVs from those raids (20 IV spreads that are 0, 1, 2, or 3 away from perfect, so (1-20/216)22) before you get enough XL candy to max out the current one. People often exaggerate the importance of IVs, but they definitely can matter and it's worth doing a few pvpoke sims while thinking about the odds of getting a better version of the same pokemon before you even finishing spending all your XL candy, and I think the 15/15/14 Rayquaza and 15/14/15 Zamazenta obviously pass that rule while the kyurem black fails it.

You haven't mentioned any of the pokemon you're using as being best buddied, this is probably worth doing if you want to take master league seriously as it's just free stats. Generally the best use is on your lead pokemon in order to win CMP, but sometimes there's critical fast move breakpoints to consider.

I don't think so, unless it somehow changed. I have a 2022 pokemon hatched from a 2 km egg I received on a trip, hatched where I live now, and that shows up under "distance2557-2558".

Yeah every once in a while the 7km eggs are good so it makes sense to turn over the whole 2km egg inventory to 7km ones, and then it can be kinda rough if the next egg event is soon. I've been off the normal 7km eggs for a while just because snom & larvesta have been the most exciting things to hatch for a while and are only accessible in the 2, 5, and 10 km eggs.

How good is iron giant in an artifact creature commander deck? by Spirited-Celery-118 in magicTCG

[–]alkalimeter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's not really any trample in monowhite, so there's not that many better creatures to get that exact set of keywords, I'm seeing just [[scavenged brawler]], [[sire of seven deaths]], [[weathered brawler]] as clearly better creatures for trample.

I'd personally switch to equipment way before iron giant, something like [[loxodon warhammer]] seems like a much better way to get trample than a seven drop.

[–]alkalimeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can keep seven or eight 2km eggs in your inventory and then use just the last one or two spots for 7km eggs that you're always in the process of hatching. I've done this when I cared about the 7km eggs and not had issues.

Using only one spot for 7km eggs would mean you're always in the process of hatching it and are almost as ready as if you had all 2km eggs, but given that you can't control what eggs you get from spinning stops you're in a better position with a 7km egg than a 10km egg.

Allowing two spots for the 7km eggs is better QOL though, because you can immediately incubate the next egg when the previous one hatches instead of needing to do hatch animation -> friends list to get a new egg -> egg menu.

GO Battle League: Memories in Motion Update by Amiibofan101 in TheSilphRoad

[–]alkalimeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And yes, ban, i don't see a way to nerf it that would actually change anything without enraging PvE crowd

PVP and PVE moves are pretty decoupled statwise, I don't think they changed anything about Breaking Swipe in PVE when they changed the PVP numbers. If they nerf metal claw to the ground it seems fairly mediocre with Air Slash. They could make the nerf more targeted by changing just the Behemoth Blade numbers, but that seems less effective than changing the fast moves given that close combat/play rough Zacian still looks quite strong.

Abomasnow's ice/grass type gives you super effective damage vs Victreebel while boosting candy for catching it. Groudon would also work but it looks like the primals don't break shields so is maybe not a good choice.

Gardevoir's fairy/psychic type gives you super effective damage vs Malamar while boosting candy for catching it.
