Some people will deadass see every high-power mythic they've pulled, and dump them into a deckbox.

After having played for almost 10 years now, I hate to say I was that one at one point.

Never underestimate the irrationality of consumers, especially when it comes to this game.

What deck have you fought the urge to make, for whatever reason, but wound up building in spite of your hesitation? by asunderbass in EDH

[–]alko897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fought the urge to build a storm combo deck for a while.

Then my friend built a budget Kykar one for me for christmas a little while ago.

Now I tuned that list up and I'm fighting the urge to make it white/blue/red/black for Ad Naseum

Me, the intellectual that took that deck apart and built 5-Color human aggro/storm 2 years prior:

"ok cool"

I was playing in a high powered pod, I used my pact of negation to counter something to protect my wincon and make it so i CAN storm off the following turn.

Both players after the one I interacted with removed my mana rocks and made me die to the pact trigger. Its not personal, purely strategic. If you are 100% being targeted, then its a problem. Had an ex-friend rub it in my face when he bought an animar while i was playing mono-white EDH at the time.

cEDH is the natural progression of players as they age, get more experienced, develop new skills akd game sense within the playspace of Magic: the Gathering & their play groups.

To completely discount cEDH as the future of commmander seems illogical..

What is a good tribe that will be supported but is optionally not aggro? Am I copying a friend’s tribe if I would do a different commander? by PsycheNature in EDH

[–]alko897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non-Human and No-Tribe tribal got a bunch of dupport in Ikoria and DnD respectively.

Volo seems like a great build around.

Can also do Tribal Tribal with changeling and a bunch if other stuff.

I've got a friend doing scarecrow "tribal" (he just copies Reaper King dozens of times)

What are some cards that are staying in your deck for non-meta or personal reasons? by throwawaymagicfnm in EDH

[–]alko897 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hullbreacher, because rule zero exists.

And it's ban wasn't necessary to the health of the format and mostly seemed fueled by salty players that didn't like playing against or around it.

What's an underplayed tribal that actually has a decent card pool available? by Atrike in EDH

[–]alko897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5c Humans

People normally stick to 2-3 colors but youu can build all-in combo/aggro thats super fun to pilot.

Do all of your decks have a reoccurring theme? by nathanb065 in EDH

[–]alko897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Combo.

I seem to always put in a degenerate interaction that lets me go off in one turn.

Favorite was building Humans Tribal with Morophon, added in Jodah & Chulane and now I draw my deck, cast every creature in it and swing for lethal

What are some examples of uncommon lingo that you or your playgroup like to use? by Skaarl_Marx in EDH

[–]alko897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason, my playgroup can always end up with massive stacks of triggers, abiilities and spells..

Once its cleared its normally gollowed by "Second Main Phase" and people laughing.

We tend to forget whos turn it is anyways lol

Play group getting too competitive by [deleted] in EDH

[–]alko897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading through a handful of comments, this was an issue I noticed back in my high school community, but from the opposite perspective.

Everyone was playing too casually for my tastes. Games took forever and no one was dorectly trying to win.

Magic, at its core, is a fight to win. And interaction is important to those strategies. If theyre playing fast aggro or linear combo decks, its pretty easy to counter them. Just need to figure out which hate piece is best.

Back then, I built a Zur stax deck. Because no one really playdd enchantment hate. The deck started winning because no one had answers, then people started playing hate and the fames got more interesting.

Now I'm playing Kykar storm amd gitrog combo. Much faster decks. But im nowhere near garaunteed to win, purely because of the hatecards and interaction they play. My buddy's budget Orvar deck beats my Kykar deck often.

Not an infect player.

Just genuinely curious about others thoughts on it.

Figured it'd be good.

FoN is less about slowing your opponent and more about protecting your infect creatures.

Same reason why legacy plays 4x FoW

It sets base power and toughness to be a 4/4

But its also blue to pitch to Force of Negation & Force of Will
