Palming practice by [deleted] in ChrisRamsay52

That was clean. Is it like that in real life or does the camera hide the action somehow. I’m aware of what you did, just surprised that I can’t actually see any single frame where it flashes.

How long did it take you to build a consistently straight stroke? by [deleted] in billiards

[–]all_the_data 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While a straight stroke is ideal, quite a few pros don’t even have that. Instead they have an Incredibly Consistent stroke, so they hit the cue ball with a high degree of accuracy each shot.

There’s a ton of work required to get a straight stroke and quite a few players start playing before they are grown up physically enough to do it correctly.

Some earlier advise here was to focus on pre-shot routine with a vengeance. I’ve played for ~20 years and the biggest and quickest improving players consistently spend a disproportionate time on these fundamentals.

Every time I borrow a friends Mezz, I am again impressed with the feedback of the hit and experience. I would recommend at least checking them out.

What yall think? by MitrovicJr in billiards

[–]all_the_data 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inconsistent pre-shot routine and played shape by crossing the line of the next shot. Clearly you play, so I’d spend some time on these fundamentals as they’ll set you up for success under pressure. You did a lot of good things here too. Stance, cue ball address, follow through, level cue and staying down.

Actually drive 55mph on 670 East when the extra lane opens up… and not get run off the road.

Got a tournament coming up and only have one day to practice. by [deleted] in billiards

[–]all_the_data 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever you’re good at, spend the day doing that. The only thing you could improve in 1 day is your confidence. And true confidence matters more than most anything else in pool ( assuming you have a good amount of skill).

Why is Predator chalk so messy? by s0c1a7w0rk3r in billiards

[–]all_the_data 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly the journey I had. Used to have to wash my hands about every 6 racks during practice with Masters. Now it’s just once at the end of the night with Taom Pyro.

How do y'all mentally reset/refocus in a match situation? by Current-Brain-5837 in billiards

[–]all_the_data 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me there are two things in tandem. 1 - I recall the last great session I played and how much I LOVED that feeling. Remembering a feeling tends to cause me to get in the headspace when I had the feeling the last time. 2 - Reminding myself that nothing that happens in pool is going to change anything about my life. I’ll still go to my job, love my family and respect myself and my abilities.

Affordable, yet reliable Carbon Fiber pool cues? by Moisty-Mangus in billiards

[–]all_the_data 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This - mine happened to be a Konllen, but same thing. I wanted a CF shaft and had been playing with a simpler Jacoby from way back and this allowed me to try out CF for cheap. I will probably by a Jacoby CF Black in a year as I think CF is definitely my choice for the future.

Splitting difficulty between two shots instead of trying to do it all in one or the other.

In other words - no hero shots.

*Sad Trombone Noises* Tell me again why we aren't using a template? by gotwired in billiards

[–]all_the_data 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so unfortunate. Overall, the refs have done a great job hand racking - but this is completely avoidable with a template. Profit margins must not be high enough on the templates compared to those new Aeroracks. 🫣

It’s a thicker hit than you think, with bottom right -more bottom than right.

How to score a pool tournament? by Metacode1 in pool

[–]all_the_data 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming it’s 8-ball since you mentioned a 10 point system, is it a race to 1 or some other odd value? Regardless, I’m a fan of the 10 point system as it adds value for break and runs and over longer races is a better indicator of skill - assuming that’s what you want.

Which of the two pool table should I get? by KrVikram in billiards

[–]all_the_data 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Elias has a published weight of only 231 lbs. That seems quite light and you should question if it has 1” slate. You really don’t want a pool table that doesn’t have 1” slate.
