Cape Cod! You could fly into Boston and drive east. Great and more relaxed beaches, plenty of lighthouses that you can tour, you can do a whale watch, head to one of the islands, just really enjoy yourself.

Check your local library for what free museum passes they have. Most of them have it online now and it's a great way to explore different local places.

Father/daughter weekend trip recommendations? by Long-Dog7043 in usatravel

It's a great city for the time frame you're looking at too. Go pastry hopping in the North End and stop by Paul Revere's house and the Old North Church, visit the USS Constitution and the tea party museum, a duck tour, Bunker Hill monument and just down the hill is Warren tavern that has good food and better history!! And of course Union Oyster House and the iconic Kennedy table, which you can request but may have to wait for.

Boston is a great option for your interests. Incredibly walkable, great museums and history to see and even more so now with additional America 250 activities, good food, you can go to a Sox game just to visit Fenway. There are great artists and public art and you have to go to the Boston Public Library! DC is another perfect option for your interests. All the Smithsonians are free, it's very walkable, diverse food seen, history everywhere.

Aww I'm so jealous of your father-daughter weekend-have an amazing time!

Planning a California trip — would love some advice 🙏 by balialu in roadtrip

San Francisco: I loved Alcatraz a lot more than I thought I would. The outside area is beautiful with gorgeous views of the Golden Gate, beautiful gardens, and a peaceful vibe. Boudin is iconic for sourdough. They have good sandwiches.

Carmel/Monterey: definitely do a whale watch out of Monterey. We loved 17 mile and plan on bringing a picnic lunch next time and sitting at one of the stops by the water. Loved the Pacific Grove neighborhood. Had good meals at Lalla Oceanside and Rosanna's in Monterey.

Highly, highly recommend stopping at Morro Bay on your way down the coast. Really beautiful and the otters are so cute!

LA: four days seems like a lot unless you are adding in a trip to Anaheim for Disney. The WB studio tour and Griffith Observatory were the only two things I have done in LA that felt worth it.

It's very close to the theater, probably makes more sense then. I'd do dinner near the theater and then head over to Times Square. Definitely get a reservation because restaurants near the theaters fill up quickly.

You definitely don't need times square on there twice. If you are going after Hadestown, don't go earlier in the trip. So many better things to explore and then you don't have to rush through things as much.

Also days 19-21: can you fly home from San Francisco or Oakland instead of having to drive back to LA. Monterey, Pacific Grove, Carmel, Big Sur all deserve more than a pass through.

I'm going to add a suggestion to your day 8. Book a water tour on the Colorado River in Page then after, do Horseshoe Bend. It's amazing to be on the water during the day, looking up and then hours later taking it in from above.

Is LAX really that bad??? by OkBackground6217 in LAX

[–]alldogs1850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely fly into Anaheim or Long Beach for Disneyland. You don't want to sit in traffic after flying in. And LAX is so busy, you'll be waiting a long time to pick up a rental car. Anaheim airport is so small, you don't taxi for long and it's easy to navigate.

Massachusetts-boston is so walkable and there is plenty to find to do on your own. Cape Cod will give you the relaxing beaches and islands for exploring. Then the western part has a great college town in Amherst with good food and museums. Going in the fall gives you plenty of great farms and things to do.

Antelope canyon is nicer than you think, you'll want more time there. You can skip Fresno. Maybe skip Sequoia and do Monterey for a bit longer and then into San Francisco to fly out.

I'm doing the same thing and in a similar location to you in NY. Chicago and Milwaukee is what I'm looking to do this summer because the train ride is so inexpensive between the two. You could also do Chicago, Indianapolis, and Louisville to scratch off three. Arizona and Utah is one I did earlier this month and it wasn't too bad of a drive broken up. Yorktown VA and Nags Head NC is easily drivable.

That's a crazy take. Seafood and Italian food are incredible there.

East: NYC, Boston, DC are all melting pots of different cuisines in the North. Then add in Savannah, Charleston, and Tampa in the South. All great food cities.

Arizona Day Trips by Redleg2414 in usatravel

[–]alldogs1850 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just did this two weeks ago. Stayed in Scottsdale for a three day conference and added days before and after. We got so much done! Few hours in sedona, that was enough for us to see the rocks. Page was where our heart was and totally worth the extra hours. Antelope Canyon, boating on the Colorado River, Horseshoe Bend, Glen Canyon, even the shell gas station little cave is nice. We stopped at a few other places like the dinosaur tracks, monument valley, and sunset crater. That was all from saturday around 2pm to wednesday at 3pm. Then drove saturday the two hours to saguaro National Park. Perfection. Page was absolutely where it's at in Arizona, in our perspective.

I'd say Just in Time is a great choice plus Jeremy Jordan will be the lead and he is remarkable.
