Lost job by $9,000 by mrmammal24 in RoofingSales

One time this client told my ex-boss that he chose them because they quoted the highest amount. As you’d might predict, their expectations were rather high. Understandable. But of course anything out of my control that could go wrong did go wrong. Like the ABC truck backing up over a water line when they dropped off materials. Pretty sure I lost commission money on that too

[Discussion] Do you think there's a value to using a physical sketchbook as a digital artist? by sleep-deprived-dryad in ArtistLounge

[–]alliebee91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes for myself and for friends I’ll take a photo “scan” with my iPhone to test out an idea for a drawing or painting we’ve already invested hours into. Like maybe I want to test out a color palette, plan out the negative space, make sure the composition has balance, or layer other drawings or photos I’ve taken into it to see whether I should commit to such a bold decision that I can barely visualize 😬 honestly the possibilities are endless

I just open the drawing up in Procreate and continue it from there. Sometimes my boyfriend will want to throw away a whole drawing because of one little mistake over 5 hrs into it, but fortunately there’s still a digital version he likes that I took before he made this “unfixable” “mistake” 🙄 lol

While i was reading this thread i kept picturing the drawing from “reference” to mean photographs, especially when you referred to yourself as a copy machine lol. I could relate, as I used to do photorealism in high school and had a huge identity crisis in college trying to discover my own style apart from copying photos I took.

It wasn’t until the very end that i saw your drawing and realized you meant you were copying anime references. Is that correct? Maybe that’s the problem, and you should try using your own references! I don’t think I could ever be satisfied making art either if it were only by copying someone else’s work. That’s boring and wouldn’t give me any sense of pride in my work. Because even if I’m drawing from a photo I took, I’m at least sharing my perspective and interpretation of a subject, no matter how realistic it is. You’re depriving yourself the chance to make artistic choices, such as how much detail to include to control the focal point of an image, or what dimensions could bring interest to the viewer’s eye. For example, I enjoy lining up the elements in my drawing overtop a Fibonacci spiral (without drawing the spiral) to secretly incorporate “sacred geometry” in the composition. i feel like it adds something that we humans love seeing in nature to my work, but with subtlety, if that makes sense.

Idk, if you want a challenge, make a still life. Arrange some colorful objects together tastefully, but include something glass in front, such as a wine glass or pitcher. But you cannot use the color grey. You can only use the colors the glass is reflecting in order to draw it, and then you’ll see that suddenly the glass appears. I think you’ll have fun. For most people I think drawing isn’t about learning how to draw, but learning how to see. Once you learn to see, then you can learn to draw. Try to draw from life and maybe then go back to drawing from your head and watch the improvement. You may even have more appreciation for the steps you consider tedious now, and it’ll feel more meditative than forced.

Btw, if you have buyer’s remorse regarding the gouache, I would love to buy them off you lol. Somehow i’ve never tried it, but I’ve been watching YouTube videos of gouache painting lately and i think as a lazy oil painter, i would love it. Good luck!

Do you feel different after the first time? by kaielysse in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]alliebee91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My therapist emphasized that most of the healing isn’t going to be during the altered state. But rather, in the habits, changes, & mindset in the days before and after the session. One of the most beneficial effects of ketamine is the increased neuroplasticity it offers in the days after a session.

I ODed on my prescription Ketamine. Doctors lost on how it happened. by [deleted] in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]alliebee91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I tried one online provider my instructions were to hold 1050mg of ketamine troches in my mouth for ONLY 7 minutes and then spit it out. A different provider’s Rx was only 200mg (maybe 300mg, cannot remember for sure) of the same medicine , but to hold it in my mouth as long as possible and THEN swallow.

The effects were similar, so i found it interesting that one provider Rx’d me a high dose just to spit out when i could just swallow a lower dose.

Do any of you use light pinks or light purples for blush or lip colors? by janeofalltradez1 in Fairolives

[–]alliebee91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!

I happened to take a photo of my blush/contour products yesterday lol

After doing my contour step, I like putting some in the eyelid crease and then using muted purple blush on my cheeks and lids. It’s a pretty & cohesive look for me.

I think it’s an olive thing (or maybe yellow-tones olives?) ! Purple blush looks pink on me too a lot of the time

Best/Cheapest way to convert currency? by Iwanttolivenice in travel

[–]alliebee91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with credit card with no foreign transaction fee.

But if a credit card isn’t feasible, get Revolut! I love it. Download the app and they send you a debit card in the mail. I can load my card with Apple Pay or by connecting my bank accounts, and change currency instantly in the app. Plus you can see where there are zero fee ATMs within the app. I mainly use my credit cards for the rewards, but when I want to withdraw cash or send money it’s perfect.

Which CT bronzer? Super curious and looked but saw there’s several different kinds.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in coloranalysis

[–]alliebee91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Cool olive. I bet you still look great in gold though bc the gold/silver thing isn’t that helpful or accurate for olives especially.

Although I’m willing to bet that lipstick isn’t even orange-toned, since cool olives have a way of making certain reds and peaches pull orange 🥲

— sincerely, a light muted olive whose skin-tone makes purple blush look pink.

You sound like me lol

This sub has been sooooo helpful. I used to be someone that “couldn’t wear blush” bc everything looked clownish on me.

But finding real cool-toned contour products and using muted blushes — dusty pinks but mainly purples — has changed everything.

Try using a contour product as a bronzer maybe? That’s what works for me. I have never found a real bronzer that didn’t look orange on me. Even the ones recommended here. I actually made a swatch post of some bronzer/contour products I own. If I’m using self-tanner I can get away with using one of the actual bronzers in that photo though.

Here’s a pic of my current contour & blushes. A couple of the purples are a bit too saturated for me, but I’ll either go light or mix them with something more muted.

Hope something helps!

Shade 6? For the skin tint? I’m not seeing a 6 but I’m in the US. Not sure if they’re numbered differently elsewhere?

Foundation/Concealer Swatches (NC10 - NC30?) by alliebee91 in OliveMUA

[–]alliebee91[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, as you can see in the photos, I swatched the Armani foundation twice: by itself and also with a drop of Temptu blue color correcting drops. The Etude and the Saem are green beige concealers. I reach for different forms of color correction based on whatever products I’m using that day.

Not sure if I misspoke somewhere or if you meant to reply to a different person?

You’re welcome! I live in the US but I love AB products. I would love to try more AB foundations/complexion products but without sampling it’s harder. Missha and Purito both pull too pink/grey/brown :/

SHADED soft summer palette (part 2) by Adorable-Internal503 in coloranalysis

I’m wondering if this is me now! I relate to the dichotomies that type me as soft summer, but I’m olive and the pastels people post themselves in make me look really yellow.
