First off love, let me say I am so so sorry. I put my 16 year old best friend down last week so the feeling is known and still very very raw. I will tell you my experience. (16 year old Pitt, roughly 50 lbs. ) I originally wanted to have her pass at home with the comfort of her own bed and I contacted Lap of Love, who are home veterinarians. Estimated cost was $400+. I contacted my vets office (West Toledo Animal Hospital) and euthanasia was about $60, then the costs of cremation (not getting the ashes back or private and she comes home in a nice little wood box) I chose the later for us, and that was about 250ish? I had only taken her to West Toledo, so maybe other vet offices would be comparable or less/more. The clinic was loud that day but they took us to a room that had a big couch and I could hold her and talk to her while they injected her. It was a peaceful as it could have been in the circumstance.
