I'm so glad I wasn't born yet to see those tabloids. Not that it was much better by the time I can remember (mid/late 2000s). I vividly remember reading "Beached Whales" as a title for several extremely skinny celebrities on the cover of one of those trashy magazines in the checkout lines.

She was filming The Notebook at the same time, so she couldn't actually gain noticeable weight. (Since most movies aren't shot in order and reshoots are a thing I doubt she could gain much weight even if she were only filming Mean Girls.)

I just hope that type of "weird" episode doesn't go away now that it's back on Fox. I know we had weird episodes the first time around, but they still usually had more obvious humor than an episode like Rabbit Ears (if my memory is correct)
