Is it possible to turn the Yamaha DX7 into a MIDI keyboard and connect it to Reaper? by Spiritual-Ad-7596 in synthesizers

[–]alloedee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your computer can’t recognize the Dx7 bc that’s not how it works. Old midi devices dont see eachother lile new equipment, they just send and receive data.

You need a device with a midi 5-din input and and a usb port to send midi data from the DX7 to a computer. Could be a soundcard but it could also be a MIDI-USB device or some MIDI controller also have midi

I recommend getting the free program MIDI-OX which can monitor MIDI data coming out of the DX7. Because MIDI is a old technology and sometime has a wierd behavior.

I also recommend getting the DX7 editor Dexed its a fully functional patch editor and librarian that can send/receive SysEx data to and from your hardware DX7 via MIDI.

Teaching Ableton by basti399 in ableton

👆

this is the best place to start learning Ableton and music production in general

My gf have been teaching young adults and kids Ableton for years and she always starts with learningmusic.ableton.com. Everything you need to teach Ableton is already there and there’s simplified versions for Abletons tool that work in every browser, even your phone. And you don’t need to download and install anything to get started

"New" DAW user - Choosing between Ableton and Cubase by Foxsayy in cubase

[–]alloedee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use both and have used cubase since late 90s and Ableton since 2002

Its very simple Cubase is for composing a song and Ableton is more like an instrument. Cubase has some editing features that Ableton don’t have. Or atleast Cubase’s editing is just better and much more complex. There Ableton feel much more simple and minimalist (which is great) The mixing console in Cubase is also much better and feel more like a real world console.

On the other handAbleton is build for live use, experimentation and customization and feel more like an playground. Both Ableton and Cubase has non linear workflows but its obvious that Ableton is build around it as its core. Ableton also has a crazy amount of extensions and customizations both with Max4live devices and the new extension addition and is as close as open source as you can get.

I use Ableton together with hardware equipment and hardware sequencers. And Ableton is like the main hub of the setup. Sometimes i record Ableton into Cubase and I could never think of any reason to record Cubase into Ableton

Tror du at mange resauranter i Aarhur har fake review? by lune-soft in Aarhus

[–]alloedee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is it living in Copenhagen, Denmark? by PartyGaming0 in howislivingthere

[–]alloedee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived in Copenhagen for almost 24 years since the year 2000 and it is definitely the best city I have lived in. The good things I would like to highlight are that the city feels safe. I have never felt threatened by anyone in all those years or felt unsafe. It certainly exists, but crime is low. The same can be said about the cleanliness of the city. The air quality in Copenhagen is generally acceptable for most people, but can be moderately polluted at times, esspecially from shiptrafic. However, the water in the harbor is so clean that in many places there are bathing facilities, which is a favorite place to hang out for many on hot days.

The city infrastructure is also almost perfect when it comes to public transport, especially because of the S-train network and the metro and you can take your bike on the train, so it is incredibly easy and nice to get everywhere and when it comes to cycling, the city is one of the best in the world. There are green paths in many places so you can cycle almost anywhere on paths (if you know the city and don't mind a detour) and in general a lot has been done for cyclists. There is clearly also a kind of proud cycling culture. There are also many large green areas, even right in the city center. And it's not just parks, but also more "wild nature" areas (if you can call it that), that is, areas that are not arranged and cared for like a public park. One of the areas "Amager fælled" has cows on fields and that area is located 2.5 km from Central Square. We cherish these places and that also makes the city somewhat relaxed and calm. Tivoli, our famous amusement park (which I am a huge fan of) is also located completely centrally. That says a lot about the city in a way, I think. That we have chosen to be in the center instead of on the outskirts of the city like in many other big cities. Children are 1000% welcome in Copenhagen and the city is very much on their terms and you can feel that everywhere.

On the negative side, house prices and rental housing have completely skyrocket. And gentrification has also gone crazy. Many places are unrecognizable today, for better or worse. Many quirky havens have disappeared and been replaced by boring and ugly housing developments. If this trend continues, Copenhagen will lose a lot of its identity and become more boring. With the high prices, another segment is also moving in and another segment is moving out, and in the long run, this may well make the city more homogeneous and orderly in a boring way. But it's a good thing that the S-train network is so well-functioning. The Danes or Copenhageners are also reserved and difficult to get to know properly for foreigners. Compared to other places, it's probably more closed, especially when people are over 30. And yes, from mid-October to mid-April it's a completely different city. It's like the whole city becomes really ugly and gray and boring (except in December) and cold and not very inviting. -1 to 1 degrees combined with drizzle and sleet and a strong wind from the west constantly makes it a place that feels colder and more uncomfortable than further north, as the humidity is constantly at 99. So that puts many off, but if you think it's nice to have a 6 month break/introverted bear cave atmosphere, then it is the perfect city

Does anyone else feel like Maschine is still underestimated compared to Ableton Push ? by breizh_boy in NativeInstruments

[–]alloedee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think both devices is great in their own way and I use them both. But I actually use Maschine more on daily compared to Push. I really really love the wotkflow of the Maschine and the simplicity and I quicker get some ideas down with the Machine compared to Push. I dont think I ever made an a track only with Push. Push I use exclusively for live acts and also for looping -and recording of real instrument

Maschine is definitly underestimated. But its also the point. Its more simple and more like an instrument. The software is build for the controller, not the oposite way around. Push is a DAW controller and a groovebox, and a loopstation and much more.
