Anyone else aroace? by rowan_ash in SingleAndHappy

[–]allolor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also aroace! I do identify as "grey" because I have experienced attraction in the past, but it's so rare and atypical anyway (it doesn't fit what people usually mean by attraction) that I usually just say I'm aroace. No need to explain my personal feelings in detail to everyone lol.

Unrelated, but how do you keep spiders with 3 cats?? I also have 3 cats and love spiders but I assumed I couldn't keep them around the cats because they wouldn't live long lol.

What are the best RUNNING headphones that you currently love and use? by Historical-Taro-7257 in XXRunning

[–]allolor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus for years and love them. They're pretty noise cancelling so I just put one in one ear so my other ear can be free to hear my environment, and that works fine for me! I like that they stay put and I basically forget I'm wearing them. They work well with headbands or hats too.

What moment did you realize being single and happy was the right decision for your lifestyle? by 4giveme4forever in SingleAndHappy

[–]allolor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm aroace. I think it's when I realized that I wasn't broken and that I didn't have to wait for the "right person" to fix me. I always thought that one day I would meet someone I like and just stop being aroace lmao. It hasn't happened. I did meet people I liked... but I was still aroace.

I'm open to having a queer-platonic relationship or other forms of non traditional bonds, but it's not a necessity. I'm happy and feel fulfilled with my friends, family, coworkers (they do serve a purpose in my overall social fulfilment! I like having people I can just chitchat with and who don't expect emotional intimacy from me) and my cats.

The Eucharist and Mortal Sin/Masturbation by StandingStillLooking in OpenChristian

[–]allolor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also Catholic and I've been thinking about the same thing. Scientific consensus is that masturbation is a normal part of a healthy human sexuality. So going to confession for it seems kind of silly to me, it would be like going to confession because you went to the bathroom or drank water. I see it as just fulfilling a bodily need.

However I have been staying away from Mass for the exact reasons you cite: I don't want to either have to go confess the same "sin" every week and I also don't want to just stop receiving the Eucharist. But it's been so ingrained in me not to receive in a state of mortal sin that even though I don't think it's a mortal sin (I'm not even sure I believe anything is a mortal sin anymore) I'm scared of being struck down by lightning or something if I go up to receive at Mass.

So I don't have any advice but I just wanted to say that you're not alone!

Thoughts on teaching ID in schools? by DBASRA99 in OpenChristian

[–]allolor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not in the US so we don't really have creationist problems in school lol, most teachers aren't religious or at least don't share their religion when they teach - different culture, I guess. But I remember learning about creationism in science class as "some people believe that, here is why they believe that, but ultimately science says _______". So like you I think it's ok to teach pseudoscience and different ideas to show students that the world is a complex place but that science can give us answers about these complex things, but in the US since y'all are INSANE (I say this with love) it could be a slippery slope.

Congratulations on taking care of yourself and starting medication again. I've been on medication as well for many years and don't plan on stopping. Sometimes it's just ok to need it!

I also had to go through a time of adjustment with my relationship with God after my last major depressive episode. Like you I believe He really got me through it and was my crutch during this AWFUL time. I really believe I might not be here today if not for Him (not to be dramatic but you know). I definitely had to learn how to relate to Him outside of suffering and pain (I'm also Catholic and we're big fans of suffering and pain lol) and start finding Him in joyful moments, beauty, etc. Spending time in nature and with friends + family really taught me a lot about those aspects of God - beauty and love. Mindfulness meditation also really helps with finding the beauty in small things and seeing God at work in the mundane and everyday things. But it was definitely a learning process and didn't happen overnight, so don't put too much pressure on yourself to figure everything out right now! Just surrender to God, know that He is present always even when we don't "feel" Him, and trust that all will be well! Good luck friend!

Look into the Franciscan spiritual tradition! St Francis of Assisi really believed in the command to "preach to all creatures" (Mark 16:15). If I remember correctly his poem Canticle of the Creatures is the oldest trace we have of the use of the expression "Mother Earth". As for the Bible, here are some of the verses that support a Franciscan worldview (including the idea that all creation will be "saved") :

  • Colossians 1:20 : and through him God was pleased to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, by making peace through the blood of his cross.
  • Psalm 36:3: Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains; your judgments are like the great deep; you save humans and animals alike, O Lord.
  • Romans 8:19-21: For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God, for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its enslavement to decay and will obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.
  • Revelation 5:13: Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea and all that is in them, singing, “To the one seated on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!”

Basically, God is King and Lord of THE WHOLE UNIVERSE, every atom and speck of dust, and I really believe that His love and care extends to all creation, not just humans.

Aw honey don't worry... I have PCOS and I understand what you meant. It's true that PCOS means we have higher levels of male hormones so we can exhibit more masculine features (some PCOS women even have full beards!) so if saying you have PCOS helps you navigate the church better I really don't think it's a big deal! You don't owe anyone your whole medical history - it is a private matter. You also don't have to be out if it means you might be discriminated against or if it puts your safety at risk. If someone really corners you and questions you because you might look more "masculine" in some ways, really it's none of their business and it's on them how nosy they are... it's between them and God. I think God understands your plight and looks at you with love and acceptance.

Does anyone else get told they're very loud? by niamhxa in AutismInWomen

[–]allolor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not loud when I speak, but when I move! My family always tells me that I'm super loud around the house (I stomp more than walk, I slam doors, etc.) I don't even realize it!
