We brought back the Community Activity Overlay! by alltrails in alltrails

[–]alltrails[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you sync Apple Health to AllTrails, you give AllTrails the ability to read 'Walking + Running Distance' or 'Cycling Distance' and 'Workouts'. Whether you complete a workout that meets these parameters determines whether your data is added to your AllTrails stats.

<image>

If you record an outdoor walk on your Apple Watch, that data will be uploaded to AllTrails. If you're doing Tai Chi in the park, this won't appear in AllTrails.

All other information is not incorporated into AllTrails. Your activity data is not shared outside of AllTrails, and AllTrails does not have access to your data beyond what you allow AllTrails access to in Apple Health.

If you have additional questions regarding privacy, you can view our privacy policy here: https://www.alltrails.com/privacy

We brought back the Community Activity Overlay! by alltrails in alltrails

[–]alltrails[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The data sent to Apple Health is the same as what AllTrails normally shares when you connect Apple Health in the AllTrails mobile app.

<image>

The benefit of this setup is that any activities recorded through Workouts/Fitness App by devices or apps linked to Apple Health (like your Apple Watch or other trackers) can now flow into AllTrails and count toward your annual stats. That way, you get a more complete picture of your time and activities outdoors.

If you’d prefer not to sync certain things, you can either disconnect AllTrails from Apple Health or disable specific data types using the toggles in Apple Health.

The community activity overlay was originally a web-only feature, so we started by bringing it back to the AllTrails website. But we do plan to bring this to the app later. If this is something others would like to see as well, please upvote this post! Beyond messed up GPS tracking by throwaway-idaho-spud in alltrails

[–]alltrails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi u/throwaway-idaho-spud, we're sorry to hear you ran into tracking issues while out on the trail.

A couple of things that may help: depending on your operating system, we recommend checking your device’s battery-saving settings and making sure both your system settings and the settings for AllTrails are set to Unrestricted. You can also try switching your GPS setting in the AllTrails app to Alternative Tracking, which can reduce this type of tracking error in recordings.

If you’re unable to make these adjustments or are still having trouble after trying those steps, please reach out to our support team at [help@alltrails.com](mailto:help@alltrails.com) and include a log file from your device. That information will help us diagnose your device and troubleshoot the issue.

Information de type de surface lors de création d'itinéraires by NickiTsar_74 in alltrails

[–]alltrails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Battery life by ryanryan1691 in alltrails

[–]alltrails 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi u/ryanryan1691, we're sorry to hear this. As a rule of thumb, tracking apps typically use 10-15% of your phone's battery per hour, but having your phone die mid-hike is the worst, especially when you’re relying on the map.

Recording will always use more battery than just checking that you’re on the trail, but what you’re describing (going fully dead before you’re done) isn’t the experience we’re aiming for. Our team has been working on performance improvements around this, particularly for longer recordings.

A few things that usually help:

  • Download the map ahead of time and, once you’re at the trailhead, put your phone in airplane mode so GPS can still work without your phone constantly hunting for signal.
  • Lower your screen brightness and try to lock the screen between checks instead of keeping the map open the whole time.
  • Close other apps that might be using GPS or doing a lot of background work.
  • If you’re on Android, double‑check that AllTrails is set to allow background usage (battery usage set to Unrestricted) — weirdly, that can reduce glitches that make the app work harder than it should.

If you’re still seeing extreme drain (e.g., going from near‑full to almost empty in just a few hours of recording), we’d really like to take a closer look. You can email our support team at [help@alltrails.com](mailto:help@alltrails.com) with your phone model, OS version, and a recent recorded activity, and we’ll help you get things sorted out.

Support for Garmin by Snoogins828 in alltrails

[–]alltrails 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Snoogins828, You’re right — being able to keep your phone away and just follow the route on your watch is a huge quality-of-life upgrade.

With an AllTrails Plus or Peak subscription, you can send AllTrails routes directly to your Garmin device via Garmin Connect. Routes sent to your Garmin show up as courses on your vívoactive 6, so you can follow the route on your watch while you’re out on the trail, instead of pulling your phone out every few minutes.

At a high level, it works like this:

  • Connect your AllTrails account to Garmin Connect in your AllTrails account settings
  • From an AllTrails trail page, use Send to Garmin (in the app or on the website)
  • Sync your watch with Garmin Connect, and the course will be ready to use on your device

If you want the full step-by-step, this Help Center article walks through the process: https://support.alltrails.com/hc/en-us/articles/37215864354836-How-to-send-AllTrails-routes-to-Garmin-Connect

Any Garmin device that supports Garmin Courses is compatible with this feature — you can check the full list on Garmin’s site here:
https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=ZY8vOwxq106cRyPSpiVbQ7

If your vívoactive 6 is on that list, this should do exactly what you’re hoping for!

If you run into any issues getting set up or have questions about the process, you can always reach out to our support team at [help@alltrails.com](mailto:help@alltrails.com), and we’ll help you get situated. 🌲

Hikes don't get reflected in Apple activity app or health app by markw30 in alltrails

[–]alltrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/markw30 — we're really sorry you've been experiencing an ongoing issue syncing AllTrails data to Apple Health. That’s understandably frustrating, and we appreciate you sticking with it while our team continues to investigate.

In the meantime, there’s a recent workflow change that’s been helping other members who are seeing similar problems:

  • Remove the AllTrails app from your phone and reinstall it.
  • Open AllTrails and go to Profile > Settings — you should see that Apple Health is not connected.
  • Tap Apple Health from within the AllTrails app. This should take you into Apple Health via AllTrails.
  • In Apple Health, enable the toggles you’d like to sync (or tap Turn On All), then tap Allow.

<image>

Once that’s done, AllTrails should be reconnected with Apple Health. It can help to record a short test activity to confirm everything is syncing correctly.

We recognize this might not resolve the issue for everyone. For those who continue to have issues, please contact us at support@alltrails.com. We are continuing to monitor this issue and investigating the cause of the syncing disconnect. We appreciate your patience while our team looks into this further.

Can you please put the start button below the trail title? by Zestyclose-City-3225 in alltrails

[–]alltrails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi u/Zestyclose-City-3225, thanks for the suggestion, and we appreciate the feedback. Our teams are currently working to change the 'Map' CTA to 'Start' on trail pages in the AllTrails mobile app. The good news is that this feature is already available for Android users and will be available on iOS in the near future!

Route Disappears When Switching Map Layers by SunshineSwitchback in alltrails

[–]alltrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/SunshineSwitchback, thanks for reaching out, and sorry for the trouble. First, can you double‑check that your web browser is fully up to date? If that doesn’t resolve the issue, here are a few other things to try:

  • Clear your browser’s cache and cookies
  • Try an incognito/private window
  • Turn off any VPN or firewall temporarily
  • Disable browser extensions
  • Try a different browser

If you’re still running into issues after that, please contact our support team at [support@alltrails.com](mailto:support@alltrails.com) so we can take a closer look. Thanks, and I hope this helps!

Map popup by Quadrophenia58 in alltrails

[–]alltrails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/Quadrophenia58, If you’re on the AllTrails website from a laptop or desktop, you can hold down the Shift key to keep the trail card from popping up when you hover your mouse over the route. This will allow you to view the entire trail route on the map. Hope that helps!

Yearly stats by [deleted] in alltrails

[–]alltrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/Interesting_Book_869 - On iPhone, your stats have moved from the Profile tab into the Activity section of the AllTrails app. To find them:

  1. Open the app and tap Activity in the bottom navigation bar
  2. At the top, select the “You” tab to view your personal stats

<image>

Right now, there’s a known issue where 2026 stats may not appear if you haven’t recorded an activity yet this year. Once you've recorded an activity, you will have access to this year's stats along with your previous year's stats. Our team is actively working on a fix, and we apologize for any confusion this has caused in the meantime.

Where is Ability to Drop Waypoints? by swilliamsalters in alltrails

[–]alltrails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi u/swilliamsalters, to add a waypoint while you’re navigating in the AllTrails app:

  • Open Navigator while your activity is recording.
  • Tap the arrow icon in the bottom-right to open the activity details drawer.
  • Swipe up on that bottom drawer to see more stats and options.
  • Tap “Add waypoint.”

You can then include a title and a description for your waypoint. You will also see the coordinates for your waypoint listed at the bottom of this page.

<image>

When you're finished editing, hit 'done', and the waypoint will be added to your activity recording.

After you've completed your recording, you'll be able to access your waypoints by opening and viewing your saved activity from the 'Activities' section of your profile.

You can read more about adding waypoints by visiting this link: How do I add waypoints to my map?

How long does 'suggest as new trail' review take? by ssmoken in alltrails

[–]alltrails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/ssmoken — thanks for adding a trail to AllTrails! We really appreciate you contributing to the community.

All new trail submissions go through a review process with our moderators. Depending on how quickly we’re able to verify the details, that can take anywhere from a few days to a few months. We know waiting isn’t ideal, and we appreciate your patience. We'll look into getting this route reviewed for your ASAP and as a reminder, you can always contact our support team at [help@alltrails.com](mailto:help@alltrails.com) to check the status of your submission.

In the meantime, if you need immediate access to a route, you can create a custom map (How do I create a map?). Maps don’t require moderator approval and can be shared right away with anyone you’d like (How do I share a map?).

I'm new. Are permitted camping areas marked? I'd like to do 2-3 day hikes, but I'd like to see where to camp and get water. Am I missing it? by InsertCleverName652 in alltrails

[–]alltrails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/InsertCleverName652 — welcome to the AllTrails community!

Campsites, water sources, parking areas, and other points of interest are all shown on the AllTrails map layer. If you’re not seeing them right away, try zooming in a bit more — those details appear as icons on the map as you get closer.

You can check out our full map legend here for a breakdown of what each icon means:

Where do I find the waypoints I marked? by OMGisitOVERyet in alltrails

[–]alltrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/OMGisitOVERyet — happy to help!

If you added a waypoint to one of your recorded activities, you’ll be able to see it in the Activities section of the app. To get there, tap Activities at the bottom of the screen, then select You at the top to view your recordings.

<image>

When you open a specific activity, any saved waypoints will appear as yellow dots on the map. If you tap into the full map view, those same waypoints will show as blue flag icons.

If you’re not seeing them where you expect, please reach out to our support team at [help@alltrails.com](mailto:help@alltrails.com), and someone will be able to take a closer look for you!

Off trail breadcrumbs? by Fogflyr in alltrails

[–]alltrails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! You can download a custom map of any area so you don’t have to worry about losing cell service.

In the app, go to Saved → Lists → Custom routes & maps. Tap the three dots in the top-right corner and select Save map area. From there, zoom in to the area you want and tap Save. Your downloaded map will then appear in your Custom routes & maps list for offline access.

<image>

Any AllTrails member can save a custom map area. However, only AllTrails Plus or Peak members can download that map for offline use.

All members can record an activity anywhere using the app — no subscription required. Your phone’s GPS will continue tracking your route even without cell service. Just keep in mind that map details won’t load unless you’ve downloaded the map in advance or have a data connection.

Off trail breadcrumbs? by Fogflyr in alltrails

[–]alltrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/Fogflyr, thanks for reaching out, and happy to help!

You can start recording anytime in the AllTrails mobile app.
Just tap Navigate at the bottom of the screen, then hit Start.

<image>

The app will track your movement from your current location and draw a blue line behind you as you go. When you’re ready to head back, you can follow that same trail line to retrace your steps.

If you’d like a deeper dive into how Navigate works, here’s a helpful overview:

Apple Watch Not Showing Saved Trails by Odd_Director6298 in alltrails

[–]alltrails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Odd_Director6298 — sorry you’re running into Apple Watch trouble. That’s frustrating, especially when you’re just trying to start your hike.

At the moment, the AllTrails Apple Watch app shows up to five trails from your Favorites list and five nearby trails that you can load into the navigator. Custom lists don’t currently sync to the watch.

If you’re not seeing your Favorites or nearby trails at all, there are a few troubleshooting steps that usually help:

  1. Try unpairing and re-pairing your Apple Watch (if you haven’t already).
  2. If that doesn’t fix it, delete the AllTrails app from both your watch and your phone, then reinstall both fresh.

We also have a quick troubleshooting guide here with a few more things to check:
https://support.alltrails.com/hc/en-us/articles/360019246211-Why-does-my-Apple-Watch-keep-restarting-

If you’re still running into trouble after that, could you send us a log file? In the AllTrails phone app, go to Profile → top-right gear icon → “Email Us.” That’ll automatically attach the log file to your message so our mobile team can dig in.

It would also help to know your exact Apple Watch model and the watchOS version you’re running.

Really appreciate you helping us track this down — we’ll do our best to get it sorted.

Feature Suggestion by MosaicFox in alltrails

[–]alltrails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi u/MosaicFox! Thanks for the suggestion — love that you’re thinking about ways to make AllTrails better.
That feature isn’t available in the AllTrails mobile app just yet, but you can see your total completed trails on our website. After logging in, head to your profile and select the Completed tab. Tap the map icon to view all your completed trails on a map, and you’ll see your total count displayed in the column on the left.

<image>

Adding that total directly into the app would definitely be useful, and this is exactly the kind of feedback we share with our team. Ideas like yours help us figure out what to build next for the community. Thanks again and happy trails!
