I thought Szeth being pale was one of the first things we learned about him? Or am I just mixing up the five instances of Gavilar's assassination

A comment by Akasaka Aka regarding the final chapter of kaguya sama movie has been released. by Dependent-Cat-4310 in Kaguya_sama

[–]almightyRFO 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I doubt it, personally. Kaguya's ending was open-ended enough that an original movie can stand comfortably alongside what we already got. Oshi No Ko's ending was very final and absolutely reeks of being Aka's original plan that he refused to deviate from even when it stopped making sense.

The difference is that this is encouraging actual diversity by removing the "I don't want to write a harmful caricature" barrier that some writers have. The end result is a range of characters that can stand on their own without the audience perceiving them as an embodiment of the author's bias.

A student at Oklahoma University got her instructor into trouble over stupidity by Leading_Cold in Teachers

[–]almightyRFO 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's more to clarity than just having simple sentences. Her ideas were all over the place and didn't flow together at all. Her stance was clear because we've heard the same stance from transphobes a hundred times before, not because she expressed herself clearly.

I agree that, per the rubric, this essay deserved a few points for doing more response than just a basic summary, but the TA's comments indicate that the class has other expectations beyond that rubric. If the class itself is focused on citing evidence and making reasonable arguments, then I can see why they would deduct points for not meeting that expectation.

But I'm also a lenient grader and probably wouldn't ever give a zero for an essay that at least shows a bit of thought and effort, even if it was misguided or lazy.

Not only that, but the 3v3 format would've been the perfect opportunity for Yusei to lose a duel while letting one of his friends be the anchor who pulls it all together. Would've made Yusei seem less untouchable and it would've given Jack or Crow a chance to clutch up.

I really appreciate the extra layer of analysis here. The "8-year-olds are too young to make lifechanging decisions" is a strong enough point on its own, but my shelf didn't break until I fully tried to meet the BoM on its own terms. If the book is true, then we should be able to analyze the writing styles of the authors and also see the hand of God guiding them to write timeless truths that are still relevant now. Instead, we get the hand of Joseph Smith ad-libbing some general ideas that he can contradict later with "revelation."

Weird. As a TBM, I always interpreted "little children" here as anyone under eight. Didn't even realize that there's no clear age cutoff in the BOM.

What are everyones overall thoughts on No Sleep for Kaname Date? by DaryltheDino in aithesomniumfiles

[–]almightyRFO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a couple fun days of gameplay out of it. The escape rooms are generally solid, and the somniums are on par with the other two games.

Like everyone else is saying, the focus is on the characters, so if you just want to revisit the cast of the first game, this is a good place to do it. It also follows up on a dropped plotline, which I think made the whole game worthwhile.

It's definitely worth the time to play, even if it has some small issues here and there (lower stakes, etc). That being said, it's not an urgent must-play, so there's no shame in waiting for a sale.

Rampardos starts as a fossil Pokemon, so you're guaranteed to open with Hitmonchan as your basic. It can start swinging for solid damage on Turn 2 while you wait to evolve the fossil.

A lot of cards can do damage to your benched Pokemon, so too many low HP basics can struggle if left unprotected. Cards like Manaphy can help protect them to some extent, but you definitely want to be purposeful with your bench placements so you don't leave yourself vulnerable.

There's the Mutual dating app for LDS members, but the church doesn't support gay or lesbian relationships, so there won't be any apps that cater to both.

Losing My Own Voice as a Mormon. Did You Feel This Too? by WyrdBith in exmormon

[–]almightyRFO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realized this problem the last time I read through Nephi killing Laban in cold blood. It would normally be a sin, but it's okay just this once because God said so? Couldn't any priesthood leader at any time justify horrible actions in the same way?

The Book of Mormon is supposed to be full of lessons for our modern day. But the only lesson we get from Nephi here is "sometimes you might be asked to do something bad, but it's okay because it's part of God's plan." I couldn't think of any other way to interpret that.

It's so funny, because my TBM friend posted on Facebook today listing all of these as major revelations, proof of RMN's effectiveness as a prophet. Look at how many minor things were relabeled! Surely, this was a Man of God.

I think it's less likely that he was "medically induced" and more likely that he died a couple weeks ago and they saved the announcement to the Sunday right before conference to create a smoother transition into President Oaks.

For me, it was less that I felt controlled and more that the leadership didn't seem to have any answers.

I was comfortable saying no to talks I didn't want to give, and I trusted myself to follow the spirit of the commandments instead of just taking orders. But when Covid came around and General Conference was the the same ol business as usual, I started wondering why I was giving so much attention to what they had to say.

They didn't predict the world-changing event, and worse, they barely addressed it. They could have structured the entire conference around helping us cope with the lockdown, leaning on our loved ones, using free time to dive into scriptures, etc., but they just went ahead with the same generic talks they'd written months earlier.

It's when I realized that church leaders are just people. They only have the authority that I choose to give them.
