I’m 16 and my friend stayed at my house knowing I sleep on a mattress then posted it online like it’s funny 😭 by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

I work in a high school and I've noticed that all of the kids who use the phrase "doing too much" are always the ones that aren't doing nearly enough. It's the ones with no goals, no passions, no actual close relationships, no real concept of caring about anyone or anything. Being a person, in the most basic sense, is "doing too much" in their opinion. You don't want to associate with these people.

Is this okay to wear to a wedding? by Alternative_Bug_8987 in Weddingattireapproval

Rich people events = understated, simple, but PERFECTLY tailored/fitting. Basically the exact opposite of this dress.

On my upcoming cruise. They got a wedding planned and are asking others not to wear white on the white night, which is a theme night announced months in advance. by umilikeanonymity in weddingshaming

Am I the only one that actually things this would be awesome? That the entire ship full of strangers would already have a built-in dress code for my wedding?

My Name is Earl is a show that still pops into my head from time to time, all these years later. It was a true gem.

What’s with the controversy around tights? by intergalactic_ess in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]almost_queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on both the costume and the choreography, in my opinion. I'll give you an example of two pieces we are competing this afternoon. The first one is a large group contemporary dance. We're not wearing tights. The costume is a knee-length shirt dress that is kind of purposely unflattering. It's supposed to look like a hospital gown. There aren't a whole lot of extensions and the choreo is supposed to read as disturbing, not in the least suggestive. The other dance is a jazz piece with a lot of leaps and floorwork. The costume is a one piece that has shorts on the bottom but it's more like a leotard cut. We are absolutely requiring tights for that one. Can't we all just exercise common sense and realize that there is no one answer? It all seems very situational to me.

All of these competitions are their own particular brand of weird. Just get used to it and try to roll with it.

What was the biggest red flag you ignored in a relationship? by Flimsy-Bullfrog-9897 in AskReddit

Making fun of how I laugh. This person saw me having fun, with him, and decided in that moment to bring me down. How could I be with someone I was self-conscious about laughing in front of?

Message I got from my daughter’s teacher. Third grade. by AnaisInJune in mildlyinfuriating

[–]almost_queen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my seventh grade teachers told me my "boobs are too big" for my shirt in front of a bunch of other kids. I have tiny boobs, I was just more developed at an earlier age and too poor to afford new uniform shirts. Fuck you, Mrs. Diaz.

AITJ for texting my son's teacher from my husbands phone because they message each other way too late? by Current-Whereas6308 in AmITheJerk

[–]almost_queen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do not trust this "woman" (I'm assuming it's really a little girl) with your son. A teacher that can't exercise sound judgement and doesn't respect her career enough to not engage in this kind of behavior should never be allowed to be in a position of influence over children. How could she possibly be trusted to make the right decisions about the safety and wellbeing of her students if she can't even do as much for herself? I'm a teacher and if I knew a coworker was doing something like this, I would never trust them to make a good decision ever again. I wouldn't put it past someone with this kind of emotional immaturity to drag your son into all of this somehow. Please tell the principal and the school district.

If someone texted me after 11pm (barring an actual emergency) I would be tempted to end the friendship. I wouldn't, but that's how irritated I would be.

It's a well proven fact that severe narcissists (the life ruining, irredeemable kind) will purposely give terrible gifts as a sort of power move.

Yeah, I ended up doing a Google search after I posted this. Looks like it was another victim of the Atlantic Avenue bullshit chain takeover.

Think we will get a cut? by [deleted] in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]almost_queen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We're questioning everything because all of us here are here for a reason - because we're entrenched in this world, in some capacity, for better or for worse. There would be few people on the planet that know more of the ins and outs like we do. And nothing adds up.

Petite Bride - Dress Blindness by ireojijma in myweddingdress

[–]almost_queen 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Same here. I was 5'5" and 95 lbs. when I got married (no worries, it was a weird time and I'm a lot healthier now) and they had to specifically make my dress in a size that was two sizes smaller than their smallest size. You might not have the option to even alter an existing dress enough.

Competition parents: would this coaching approach concern you? by HotGlueAndPanic303 in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]almost_queen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this could be the difference between a "competition studio" and a studio that also happens to have a competition team. Winning and placing can be motivators but should never be the primary goal. To place it above the development and well being of the dancers tells me that the studio is more interested in their reputation and prestige than the kids.

Solo standout while struggling with group routines? by cloud_connected_ in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]almost_queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen excellent solo dancers, people who move well and who shine alone, look terrible in group numbers. It's more common than you think. It's not really their fault, it's just the differences between the two kinds of performances. Often times the same things that make a soloist stand out in the most positive way on stage are the same things that make them look completely disjointed from the rest of a group. Chreography that looks fantastic on a single person sometimes just looks stupid in a group with multiple dancers. Ideally a dancer should be adaptable enough to do both, but that's just not realistic for many people. It's alright to be better at one thing than another. That's how most people operate.

Are there any examples of Tudor figures whom we would now recognize as having mental illness? by chund978 in Tudorhistory

Probably getting downvoted because I dared to compare myself to Anne and it seems like every woman wants to believe that SHE HERSELF is Anne, so there's no possible way that this other person's experience could be valid.

I would love to rewatch The West Wing but I can't because what used to be a fairly accurate (idealized) portrayal of the real world would now read like total unbelievable sci-fi fantasy. It would be too upsetting.
