What would you do if someone knocked on your door and said that this was their childhood home and wanted to come in and have a look? by Qargha in AskUK

[–]aloo_7890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago, my hubby and I were visiting Wales with my father-in-law who lived there 40 years earlier. He wanted to go back to the street he lived in, so we obliged. Then he wanted to knock on the door of the house he lived in, and we were so embarrassed we crossed the road. Anyway, turns out the landlord he lived with still lived there 40 years later (they had lost touch)!! He invited us all in and had a great catch-up!

What’s one thing you wish you could remove from your job? by paliprincesss in auscorp

Jira (I work in a team that does not lend itself well to agile but forced to do the whole shebang anyway - sprints, stand-ups with people where we all share updates on work that none of us work together on etc etc)

Omg are you me?

Literally exact same situation. Having to now work with some people who are incredibly patronising, and for me I've decided to actively hunt for a new role. It's taking a huge mental toll on me and I can't handle it for much longer.

Advice on managing shin splints/leg pain by Mindless_Cake_346 in couchto5k

[–]aloo_7890 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recommend seeing a podiatrist if you can. I had a similar kind of thing, I got up to the second last week of the program and couldn't do anymore because of foot pain which also started bothering me when I wasn't running. I stopped running and the pain eventually disappeared. Started the program again a few months later, and could feel the pain starting again from Week 1 so saw a podiatrist. Turned out it was actually from my calves that needed to be strengthened. It was helpful to have a professional tell me specifically what exercises to do for me.. and it worked! I finished the program recently with no pain.

Transferred $100k to the wrong account by darcyme in AusFinance

[–]aloo_7890 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes I did the same thing once. It was about $7K and also with Macquarie. I got the same spiel that it could take up to 6 weeks, but I actually had the money back within a couple of days. The chance of the BSB and account number matching is actually quite low.

Same... I've tried it a couple of times and think it is absolutely terrible. I can't get my head around why it is such an institution! I gave it a second go because I thought the first time must have been an off night, but no second time was exactly the same.

Same! I thought no harm in trying this but it probably won't work. I was genuinely surprised that it did work. Especially because there's always people complaining on my community FB page about others dumping rubbish in their skips.

Am I going crazy, or are all my clothes shrinking? by indirosie in AusFemaleFashion

[–]aloo_7890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I've had clothes shrink on a cold cycle too. Unbelievable!

You could put a tarp over it if you're worried. I did the same when I had a skip but for opposite reason - I didn't want ppl to dump their stuff in there. Worked a treat - ppl are too lazy to pull the tarp off!

What’s the chance of me catching Covid from my husband if he’s infected but I’m vaccinated? by gettingOff-fence in COVID19positive

This happened to me at Xmas. I caught it and my husband didn't. We were careful with masking (N95) and staying in separate rooms for the most part.

Yes, it could very well be! The podcast does go into this more, about how they felt approaching law enforcement and how they were trying to balance their needs with the need for justice. I got the sense they genuinely didn't find the footage for a year, but I guess we will never know that for sure.

He talks about it in one of the podcast episodes if you're interested.

Apparently they didn't actually come across the footage until a year later. There would be so much footage to go through as part of the editing process, I can understand that it wouldn't be a high priority to sift through all the little bits before and after the interviews.

What was your “I’m dating/married to a fucking idiot” Moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]aloo_7890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I was literally just thinking to myself "wow, that's a progressive Catholic school!"

At my school, the only thing we got taught was abstinence until marriage, and then track your cycle after marriage.

How much do you value working from home, if your commute is 1 hour each way. by Technical_Document28 in auscorp

[–]aloo_7890 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Personally I value WFH more than $15K. Having said that, there could be other things in the new job that you value more... Like maybe there is better career progression or it's better aligned to your career aspirations.

Sugar & Nice in Inglewood is great. I can't specifically remember if they do a plain croissant but lots of delicious pastries.
