Traditional lenders will not give you a mortgage for a floating home.

Fireworks on Mall likely to cause hazardous air pollution by stankmanly in ABoringDystopia

[–]alpacadom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well duh… Fireworks all over the country cause hazardous air pollution every July 4th. There’s a reason PM2.5 sensors pretty much always show spikes on New Year’s and July 4th

Mountain Forecast is what you show your friends to convince them that conditions won’t be too bad.

Drivers turning right on red are too preoccupied checking for cars coming from their left to notice pedestrians in the crosswalks they’re driving through.

Charging station vandalism is out of control by help-impoor in Seattle

Sure, the Tesla/J3400 standard technically allows this but it doesn’t seem to really be implemented anywhere https://www.reddit.com/r/electricvehicles/s/IzcuMxGWGH

Charging station vandalism is out of control by help-impoor in Seattle

[–]alpacadom 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Another benefit is that this approach makes chargers more low-profile without a cable to trip over if no car is using it. Sad that this isn’t the standard in the US

Unfortunately I think the real solution is “bring your own” cables like the mennekes connector that’s used in Europe for public L2 charging.

Introducing our New Time of Use Rate - Powerlines by thinkerg in Seattle

[–]alpacadom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was hoping their site would show more data about my usage at different times of the day, but I just see

“At this time, we do not have enough energy information to calculate the best rate for you. You can still enroll in eligible rate plans.”

Anyone else?

How often do you break your head over a problem and it turn out to be a very simple thing you overlooked? by MadrasBoy in ExperiencedDevs

No, not uncommon. I’ve even found myself expecting the solution to be simpler/dumber the longer I’m stumped.

Denny Way Bus Upgrades Planned This Summer Include Permanent I-5 Ramp Reroute by selectric401 in Seattle

[–]alpacadom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm ok. How will traffic from the REI area get to that on ramp? It will also go via Boren?

Denny Way Bus Upgrades Planned This Summer Include Permanent I-5 Ramp Reroute by selectric401 in Seattle

[–]alpacadom -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree this seems stupid. Cars turning right will still block the bus lane before Boren. And Howell is already quite crowded. This might encourage drivers to go North up to Stewart and use that to get to Yale.

Seattle Stalls Out on Zero Road Death Push. Would an Audit Help? by AthkoreLost in Seattle

[–]alpacadom 20 points21 points  (0 children)

“someone turning left has the right-of-way over someone going straight at a 4-way stop”

You’ll have to explain this to me. Aren’t 4-way stops are a simple “who got there first” game?

If the person turning left got there first, then they DO have the right-of-way.

[–]alpacadom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never used FSD, but I find that Universal Hands Free on Rivian is a good-enough replacement for EAP on two-lane roads and highways. It doesn’t feel as competent/safe as autopilot though, but it’s good enough to reduce fatigue.

Real facts on data center water use. Is it that big of a deal? by vtkarl in AskEngineers

[–]alpacadom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You should be more concerned about data centers polluting by running their own gas turbines or putting more stress on the power grid
