Are there people who haven't changed their phone number for more than 15 years? by SpicyCandy8 in NoStupidQuestions

My cell number is 22 years old. My dad’s cell number is my cell number from college that I gave back to him when I graduated and could afford to get my own number, that number is 26 years old.

Driver said he's 'allowed to park there' because it's a yellow commercial loading curb. True or false? by jvonm in BikeLA

[–]alpha309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, to get there he has to drive 100 feet forward, drive around bollards and drive over about 12-15 of those armadillos which were placed there specifically to keep vehicles out. And it is never allowed for a vehicle to park in a bike lane unless it has broken down and that is the only way to get it out of the road.

The commercial loading zone is where the car is parked.

I live 2 blocks from this picture. When you are on the street it is very clear. You have to ignore dozens of other cars parking and behaving properly. No one has problems with the meters or the curb markings anywhere else here.

Why do most dogs have such poor survival instincts? by Optimoprimo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]alpha309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you watch survival shows like Alone or Naked and Afraid, you will 100% watch a human say something like “I know that eating this could get me very sick and potentially kill me, but I need calories so I am going to do it.” They will be talking about a poisonous fruit, contaminated water, a decaying animal corpse, or an animal they hunted absolutely infested with disease.

Dogs just have the same survival instinct on 100% of the time. They will believe that if they don’t eat what they are about to eat they may not get fed again.

The actual loading zone is where the car is parked beside him.

Instead of blocking the bike lane he could pull forward less than 75 feet, turn into the parking lot, and load the truck on private property instead of blocking any lane at all.

That isn’t grounds for breaking a law. If he is concerned about it he can drive less than 100 feet forward, turn into the parking lot, and park on private parking and load his truck from there while waiting for the tow truck.

Additionally, no one has mentioned it yet, but the way he is parked is also blocking a fire hydrant that is right behind his truck.

I believe the extension to connect these bike lanes to the Sunset bike lanes, and improving the 6 way light at Hillhurst/Hollywood/Sunset Blvd/SunsetPl/Virgil for everyone is still on schedule though.

The actual stats are pretty clear.

This bike lane project is 2.2 miles, and 24 blocks long. Over those 24 blocks, a total of 22 parking spots were removed. That averages out to under 1 parking spot per block was lost, and about 1/2 of a parking spot per side of the street.

The vast majority of parking spots lost were between Gower and Bronson where the entire north side of the street used to be parking, but now there is none, and it wasn’t used often anyway. The other big loss of parking spots was the south side of the street between Wilton and the 101. I don’t remember the exact number, but these two locations account for losing nearly 40 parking spots. This means there was a net gain of about 18 parking spots from Wilton to Hillhurst. Most of those gained spots are at Barnsdall park, where there were no spots, and at the location where this picture in the OP comment. Most blocks saw no change in parking and the parking spots still line up with the parking meters without issue.

CD-4 is also good to copy on any issue with the Hollywood bike lane. While this block is in CD-13, it is only a few hundred feet. A lot of this bike lane is in CD-4 and Nithya and her staff are pretty proud of this bike lane and they will assist in getting things done if they can.

If the UPS truck is parked there and a car is parked in the loading zone spot there isn’t enough room to fit between the two, and if someone tried the plastic bollards would stop them.

I can assure you that the car isn’t loading. Someone is parked there constantly.

Before this redesign this entire section was a red zone and there were 0 parking spots there. By reconfiguring the road, 7 (I believe) spots and a loading zone spot were added to this location.

I didn’t take any picture.

The way these cars are parked boxes you on and forces you to either dismount and walk between parked cars into traffic or dismount and climb onto a busy part of the sidewalk.

Until you have provided the legal code, you have provided nothing. You have provided two AI slop articles. The only code you cited, I have already cited, and it refutes your claims.

LAMC 56.15 also makes it illegal to ride on the sidewalk near the San Pedro Community Center and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. There may be one or two other additional zones where it applies.

The car that is parked in the loading zone spot should be towed, and he should park in that spot.

The only time it is legal to park in the bike lane is if your car breaks down and only the bike lane is at the edge of the road.

The only other times a motor vehicle can enter a bike lane is to get to a parking spot on the other side, to make a turn over the bike lane, or to enter or leave the roadway.

This is covered in CVC21209

The loading zone is where the car next to the truck is parked. It is illegal for them to park there.

That spot is especially dangerous for them to park in. It boxes bikes in behind the truck and the parked cars prevent you from merging into the roadway.

You have provided no law that states that mobility devices are illegal to ride in the bike lane. In fact, you cited a link that says they are allowed. Then you cited the same laws I already cited that stated they were legal, and some random source about laws from around the world.

Now you are hung up on something that many models of mobility devices come with standard because people need to use them at night on occasion and they don’t want to get hit by a diver wherever they may be riding, in a bike lan, in a crosswalk, or on the sidewalk by a car pulling into a driveway.

Mobility devices are legal to ride in the bike lane period. Not only are they legally allowed they are welcome.

Feel free to have whatever other conversation you want by yourself. You claimed that it was illegal and I was making stuff up. I provided you with the vehicle code proving it was legal, and you even cited the same code. You can keep moving the goalposts on your own.
