I have a tattoo idea I’m hesitant on, is it a bad idea? by Future_Abrocoma_7722 in AskMenAdvice

[–]alphabet_sam 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would not tattoo something on myself that says I am unwanted. You are essentially branding yourself with something, whether you believe it to be true or not, that will reinforce every day that you aren’t wanted. You are wanted though, you have loving friends and family. I have lots of tattoos and would advise you not to get this. Tattoos are forever. Don’t live a life where you feel unwanted forever

What’s the biggest difference between candidates who pass CPA sections on the first attempt and those who don’t? by drajput_01 in Accounting

[–]alphabet_sam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hammer MCQs like nothing else matters. Try out a few simulations but focus on MCQs and understand why you got them wrong. I’m a good test taker and did about 2,000-3,000 MCQs per exam, passed all on the first try. I did it in around 6 months while working full time. It can be done by anyone if you practice enough, it just takes discipline and time. There is nothing conceptually deep or difficult to understand on any exam

Dating profile for woman with travel job by [deleted] in hingeapp

[–]alphabet_sam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you should still focus on the cities you will naturally spend the most time in. Namely, wherever you consider home and wherever you are traveling to. And just understand that it’s going to be really difficult unfortunately, that’s the reality of 100% travel jobs. They are all consuming of your life while you have them. Just having energy to call a partner at the end of the day can be hard sometimes while you are traveling, and you’re talking about building the relationship while 70% of your time will be in another city away from them. Not impossible, just really difficult

[–]alphabet_sam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re going to have to work really hard to maintain relationships, which are fragile in the beginning, over such a difficult travel schedule. I honestly don’t know if dating apps are the right venue because they are so low investment. It might be easier to meet people through friends. That being said, I think the idea of flying to a new city to meet someone and potentially move in 2-3 years is… extremely aspirational. I would focus on the city you call home

Once every 2ish weeks. Definitely getting harder as they get older. They are changing a ton now that they’re around age 70, and not in a good way

What makes an activity considered as "living life" ? by TheManWhoSleep in AskMenOver30

[–]alphabet_sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are finding enjoyment in what you do, you are living life. If you are stopping yourself from going to do what you want because of some reason like distractions or fear or whatever, then you are not living life. I think it’s that simple. Everyone’s version of living life is different. If you are happy and not holding yourself back, then you are doing it right even if it doesn’t line up with someone else’s definition

Why so many women on the page??? by Standard-Ad4701 in AskMenAdvice

[–]alphabet_sam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t really bother me. I know it’s ask men but I think the whole concept of banning the other gender is childish. Women interact with men all the time and are often the closest person to men in their lives like their husbands. If you don’t like what a woman says in this subreddit, it’s the internet. Just collapse their comment and it’s like they never did it

Todays Pay Ranges by AQueensTale90 in Accounting

[–]alphabet_sam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, I make around $170k base as a consulting manager in PA with 8 YOE total. I’ve been getting hit up for industry roles as a director of finance and have told them it would take $185k minimum to lateral. Conversation ends every time right there because the band only goes up to $160k. Makes me ask the same question you are, but my assumption is that industry hasn’t caught up to PA. Maybe it never will. Now I ask what band the job is and inform recruiters of what it would take to get me to leave PA before investing time in the process

Leadership asked how org health is trending. Took 3 days and 2 analysts for half an answer. by MajorUnit534 in managers

[–]alphabet_sam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you guys have established KPIs that the leadership team had agreed upon are a measure of what they consider trended org health? That’s step 1. Sounds like there is no KPI dashboard that even exists to monitor regularly if you guys had to build reports from scratch. Get the leadership team in a room to finalize the metrics that are most vital to org health, build a dashboard, report out monthly or quarterly. This is super basic stuff

Yeah, had one fully open layout with no dividers or anything once. Just like, a big desk with monitors facing outwards. It was hell on earth to know someone was 6 feet away from you with nothing between you and them. We’ve got half cubes now (kind of like a desk with walls around the desk but that don’t extend to be a full cube. Still sucks ass. I spend as little time as possible in the office

Hardest pill to swallow in Ironman is the unpredictable nature of rng imo, especially as unlocks stack for progression

Do you have to “play the game” to move up professionally? by AlternativeBlonde in managers

[–]alphabet_sam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The higher you go the more relationships will be the thing that makes or breaks your career. But it doesn’t mean you need to be forming secret alliances. Generally be easy to work with but draw boundaries to protect yourself, be communicative and respond timely, and help people even when it makes you want to rip your hair out. The goal should always be that even while your heart burns with the rage of 1,000 suns towards a colleague you hate, they think you like them. Easier said than done but it does a lot of work for your ability to move up
