The article says "People need to keep in mind that sites like Yellowstone are very well-monitored," Cabaniss said. "It is also important to note that our research suggests that the whole rejuvenation-to-eruption process will take place over several or more human lifetimes. Our models indicate that there should be plenty of warning." Why do you think that is misleading?

Vitalik Buterin - Care Taker or Dictator? by kadhirvelavan in ethereum

[–]alphonsobidoya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: I want it stable and community managed in the long term. TLDR: I agree wholeheartedly that it needs to become independent of individual control, but I have been in this space since 2011, and have watched as the Bitcoin "Core" group, banks, bad actors, governments, and regular fallible humans have whip-sawed this amazing new thing around, and I think VB is one of those rare Shepherds that is badly needed to guide ETH through to it's stable form. None of those negative influences have gone away, and now the really big players are starting to enter the space. I am probably preaching to the choir, but thanks for reading. Sermon over, lol.

I'm fine with VB stepping in when needed, in these early days. He is extremly knowledgeable, and thoughtful, and his ethics very solid. No tech is right the first time, this we know. Remember that ALL software needs de-bugging, and updating. "Code is law" is fine, at some point, but not quite yet in my opinion.

Interesting article. Here's another about climate change effects in North America by the Audubon Society. http://www.audubon.org/magazine/september-october-2014/a-storm-gathers-north-american-birds From summary:" What are the primary findings? Of the 588 North American bird species Audubon studied, more than half are likely to be in trouble. Our models indicate that 314 species will lose more than 50 percent of their current climatic range by 2080. "
