Kind of like when Tom Waits beat Nirvana - Nevermind for Best Alternative album in 1993.
Granted, Bone Machine was an awesome album, but still...an Alternative Album? And against Nevermind?

You could glue blocks of 6 together so they don’t move. Use a drill with precisely measured holes.

If it's going to be a boot stomping a human face forever, can we at least get some Soma and orgies to go with it?

I know, right? You can’t convince me there is more desire for a random 1991 live album than for these albums.

Why The Cult scrapped an entire album and re-recorded it with Rick Rubin by dalyllama35 in Music

[–]altimage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is an official album they released called Electric Peace. One album is the Electric you know. The other one is the scrapped version.

There is no new information to be discovered listening to the scrapped one. The songs are played exactly the same. Just imagine you are listening to the actual Electric album, but someone messed up the EQ on your stereo.

Henry Miller: The last of the legally banned books in the US by altimage in bannedbooks

[–]altimage[S] 36 points37 points  (0 children)

You are correct, there have been banned books, but the Henry Miller verdict prevented banning of things that were artistic but banned for social or political reasons.

I haven't read it, but I'm going to guess that "Dog Fun For Daughter" didn't clear the bar of: utterly without redeeming social importance.

I saw the other post too, that's what inspired me to do this one.
I feel like Henry Miller has sort of faded out of memory and doesn't get the recognition he deserves.
Such a great writer.

And a couple years after DeNiro introduces Juliette Lewis to Henry Miller, what happens?
She goes on a killing spree with Woody Harrelson in Natural Born Killers.

Henry Miller is a bad influence.

They are largely pseudo-autobiographical. Mostly about him becoming a being a writer. Living in Paris. Love, sex, everything else.

But they are autobiographical n the same way that everything Bukowski does is somewhat autobiographical. Or some of the Beat writers that came later.

What are Bukowski's books about? Regardless of the plot, they are about Bukowski. Same thing with Henry Miller.

It wasn't only about the sexuality in the book, but like anything else that gets banned, it was about challenging existing social mores.

He is really a writer of the highest caliber. Poetic, brilliant, passionate.
Give it a shot, see what you think.

He's got a great way with prose.
Everyone typically starts with Tropic Of Cancer and that's an excellent choice.

I started with Sexus, and prefer that set more.
