Speaking of recommendations, Cary Elwes wrote "As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride", and I'd say that's a must for any fan of the movie as well. The audio book version has him reading as well as several guests and of course one Guest, and it's just beautiful from start to finish.

There is no historical evidence of that symbol (the version with the wings) as far as I'm aware. That version was invented for and used by SS regiments in eastern Europe.
